@@NOWthebandnot sure if you’re being ironic, but if not, based is essentially a way of saying “cool”, it’s gained traction over the past few years. Though, it originated with the rapper “Lil B ‘the Based God’” over a decade ago. Hilariously enough, I was just telling my partner yesterday about how responses like yours will probably be more frequent the further and further we go from the peak of the trend, lol.
@@vvviiixxx8745 - I was not being ironic. I didn't know what "based comment" meant, although thanks to you, now I do. I don't follow The Rap World, which is why I didn't get the reference. It's a shame because I really do appreciate surrealism, so if Isidoro had written their comment in the spirit of surrealism, I would have appreciated it. Ah well, never mind. 🙂
Oh god no. I love it, but this is in no way fun. Their acceleration, build, and freedom is beyond interesting, but by its way too pessimistic. The future is fun, it’s strange and new, but that’s what makes it fun, not anxiety ridden or scary. Again, I love the band, but it’s like saying the future ends in nuclear warfare, like some Cold War era vision of the future.
@@MeanderingSlacker Well, nuclear holocaust was definitely in people's unconscious at the time.... but the semi-comfortable dystopia we live today could be linked to the feeling and theme

I have their Final Concert on my channel, this set isn’t my *favorite* set list from This Heat; notably the cut of Paper Hats, Saigon, Horizontal Hold in favor of Hayward’s material (which is still gold, but not as good as the full band jamming it out to Horizontal Hold’s packaged insanity) Regardless, great sound and great performance.
@@synthmalicious7541 Unfortunately no, however after some digging I’m sure I could find you the band. I don’t log onto this account often, so apologies for the disappointing response. I’ll get to you soon if I do find the band, Cheers.
@@thisheatarchives1555 I've done some digging so far, and I've been able to find nothing, like not even close to finding something. Someone was able to tell me that this gig was from 1982 in Cologne Germany but I haven't been able to find anything else. No need to apologize! Having your account up in the first place is a treasure enough.
It's really interesting b/c I just discovered this band after many years of listening to the Cure, Joy Division, and a whole bunch of other post-punk. These guys seem to have been light years ahead of all these bands. I guess it was just too obscure back then for people to really understand how groundbreaking it was. Then it's really dark music so probably not the most accessible.

Just one of the most amazing bands ever heard. Really everything going into the musicianship and performance. Everything. It's the answer to colonization.
Don't think this is from 1980. This is from the very end of the band's existence after Gareth Williams left. That's Trefor Goronwy on bass and Ian Hill on Keys. Goronwy joined This Heat in 1982, and went on to work with Hayward in Camberwell Now.
The band performing in the video is This Heat. They broke up and went on to form different bands (Camberwell Now, The Lifetones), recently the drummer/singer and the guitarist/singer (Charles Hayward, and Charles Bullen, respectively) got together and assembled a live band and are playing/touring under the name... This Is Not This Heat.
Could be Markthalle Hamburg, 8th April 1982. At the start I hear a german sentence from the mixing desk. My friends from Recommended Records Zürich organised two concerts with This Heat 💥at Rote Fabrik one week later. It definitely has the same mood.
+Jonny Zchivago Hi JZ your posts on that blog have made a huge impact on me especially all the DIY tapes from the 80's thank you for transforming my life :)
I am humbled. The fact that you are open to intelligent music means you changed you own life. Its not your fault the forces of control hide this stuff away from you. They've tried to suppress me a few times, and failed dramatically. Spread the word.
Was there an actual musical movement or inspiration they followed or are they their own thing? Trying to find something like them during their time period
In a way they were part of the second generation of Rock In Opposition, similar bands in their time? : The Work and Cassiber, also check out Curlew that came a little bit later.
Casper Brotzmann, or Glenn Branca for me always been closest. In the more technical noise/no wave trend. But still they only loosely fit in there. Even bands like Savage Republic, Killing Joke or Einsturzende Neubauten have similarities to me. Haven’t heard these previous mentioned bands before. Excited to check them out.
The first song is GREENFINGERS, which 2 members of THIS HEAT later did a studio version of as CAMBERWELL NOW. This is the only version that sounds this way though. There are many bootlegs where they play this version.
Greenfingers, S.P.Q.R., Working Night (one of the best unrecorded songs ever), Makeshift Swahili, Twilight Furniture, live jam I don't know the title of, A New Kind of Water, Cenotaph, Solar off the Health & Efficiency EP
