Another great video, thanks Mr. Skinner! 2 things. I am a heavy duty freshwater largemouth bass enthusiast. Every spring I get what I call spinnerbait elbow. Comes from slinging a 1/2 oz. spinnerbait all day every spring for a few weeks. Painful but worth it! Also, ah yes the "Gut". About as close to the old "shooting fish in a barrel" as one can ever get. Too much fun!

Thanks for the video John. I am a fisherman, a bowler and I once played tennis. As far as tennis elbow the bands are great but I found there is PT for this. There are many videos for this but you have to figure out what you are suffering from. For me there are massages that really help. It has drastically cut down on the pain.

Such a pleasure getting older! After 4 decades I had to essentially give up surf casting, those 11' rods and 3oz+ lures are, sadly, out of my life for good. Now my only "surf casting" has to be with an 8' rod and lures under 2oz. and I have to be gentle when casting.

Try 3 waying the flutter spoon .. lose the treble add assist hooks bkk 5/0 top and bottom … clip weight right onto the 3 way … I also use a shorter leader between the 3 way and spoon

I will try that. Thanks.

How much weight do you think this rod can handle? I want to use it in the race but often need 16-20oz bank sinker on the 3 way bucktail ... I only have 10oz cannonball which I’ll try next time! But figured I’d ask.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 11 дней назад
It handles 12 ounce no problem on a 3-way. I'm sure another 4 ounces wouldn't matter.

@@JohnSkinnerFishing Noted, thanks John. Do you ever use the lighter spoon in shallower water with less current? I realized that I only have the lighter one. I can't remember if you prefer the chartreuse or white in heavy either. Let me know!

@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 11 дней назад
I would use the bay rod if I was tog fishing with jigs and 15# braid with jig weights to 1.5 ounces. If you fish heavier than that, then the HC would be a better match.

John do you ever have a problem with bluefish breaking off your spoons? If so can you use a short metal leader?
@JohnSkinnerFishing

I would never use wire. If the blues are in there heavy, I won't spoon. Very few so far this year.

Hi John, How come you don't use diamond jigs in this area? I won't even attempt to use a $20+ flutter spoon here because the bottom is so unforgiving.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 12 дней назад
I would use a bucktail before I'd use a diamond jig. With a 3-way bucktail rig I can be assured I'm in the strike zone all of the time with a good presentation.
@ronk3332
@ronk3332 12 дней назад
@@JohnSkinnerFishing on the slow ends of the tide when the drift is less than 2 mph, I find that the 3 way isn't that effective. I find that a diamond jig cranked off the bottom can trigger a reaction bite, even during slack tide. Drop a jig to the bottom, crank up 10 times and repeat. Vary the retreive speed and the number of cranks until dialed in. I'd love to see this technique side by side with the flutter spoon.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 12 дней назад
Right - a 3-way doesn't work well below about 1.7mph. In those cases I'd spoon or drop a lighter weight bucktail down, usually about 3 ounces or less depending on scope. But yes, a diamond jig would be a decent way to fish those slow periods if there was a lot of wind and scoping - like today!

They're not the greatest, but they should last at least 3 years if you at least spray it lightly with freshwater after each trip. Also keep the corners of the thumb bar oiled. I only like them because of the flipping switch feature.

What app do you use to check the wind. And what do you look for as wind speed and direction. Thanks John.
@JohnSkinnerFishing
@JohnSkinnerFishing 11 дней назад
Windfinder and Windy. I really would like to see it not more than 10 for my boat in the gut if it's against the tide. There's shelter on easterly, but I still need to get home to greenport from there. I was out in 15 west all tide yesterday and I never felt in danger, but it was a soft tide moon stage.

Xraps rock!!! That and the great white dildo (Doc Blank) are what I use most in eastern Buzzards Bay. Trying to branch out into jigs and gulp but we don't get deeper than 50' here- mostly 35' depth unless you take your chances fishing Hog Island Channel. Army Corps will give chase.
