I love me sum good fightin in roguelikes, and its often a big reason I love the roguelikes that I love so much. However, if I'm being honest there hasn't been a roguelike that combat really stuck out for me as THE predominant feature of it. Plenty have had combat be a great aspect of their game, but usually the combat alone is not the top must-play factor to those roguelikes.
Then, everything changed when the fire na- Astral Ascent came along, and booooyyy does this game have some GOOD combat, dare i say, it NAILED roguelike combat (and I do).

Astral Ascent literally brought back my love for roguelike/lites. I've played so much Skul, Dead Cells, Isaac, and Risk of Rain 2 and as strange as it sounds, it was starting to become a bit stagnant. I smashed through the main difficulties and I've almost unlocked everything in the game, and still loving it!

Also bossfights, so much awesome and also... spoiler ahead Once you get above Destiny Level, enemies and bossfights get additional movesets. I love this endgame content, where boss will surprise with new moves.

Thank you for remining me of this game I had long forgotten: I need to add it to my wishlist. If you'd like roguelike recommendations I have three: -One Step From Eden, a megaman battle network inspired game that is much more easily watche/played than explained in words tbh; -Star Renegades, a very interesting game with a complex combat system that features party vs party but with a timeline an attacks that influence the enemy order therefore transforming every fight into a puzzle (plus gorgeous pixel art an a great animated intro); -The Void Rains Upon Her Heart, a bullet hell with a lovely story an impressive upate record for a solo dev, do not be intimidated by 6 years of early access as the last update was just yesterday, and even if you are not familiar with the genre I think it's very worth a shot (heh) as it perfectly guides you towards higher difficulties without being overwhelming (I don't think I have found another game that manages the difficulty curve so well).

I got this game on switch on the day it came out because i love me a rouge like, and i have been having a blast with it, i am beyiond excited for the weapons patch next month as the biggest issue i do HAVE is the lack of variety from run to run if you aren't switching characters so hoping the weapons next patch will fix

I actually can't think of a comment of the cuff. Well guess this will have to do. Good vid and as far as rouglikes go a pretty new one that i have been following recently came out. It is called Balatro and it is poker rouglike. Its combat is some of the worst i have seen, since it doesn't exist, but it has a great feel to it.
