I'm not a scholar on this, but I've heard the argument before - that the fact that Jesus followers were invigorated to preach the gospel AFTER Christ was crucified HAD to be dependent upon the resurrection. Otherwise the disciples would have disbanded and probably hidden for fear of further persecution. Peter et al were transformed and gave the rest of their lives to spreading the good news. Hearing this video really "fleshed out" the argument with the details of what occurred and when it occurred. Thank you so much!

Or they deluded themselves in order to give their lives purpose then proceeded to convince millions that their delusions were correct. Just like every other religion in history Oh BTW the story of Jesus is blatantly plagiarized from other religious stories. Shows you where they got the ideas from.

Am a big fan of Gary Habermas and his minimum facts argument. Hafta say though, around 43:15 he makes a bad argument for Jesus not entrusting his mother to James. James is a son of Zebedee and/or a cousin of Jesus. An early source to consider outside of scripture would be Eusibius, who recorded James as Jesus’ cousin. If anyone wants to argue the point, maybe we can talk about the 500 brothers who saw the risen Lord. Despite no one EVER being identified as a son or daughter of Mary, other than Jesus, there are,since the sixteenth century, hordes of believers and non-believers who get this wrong. Another point about James; we just don’t know if he was at the crucifixion, not that it would matter because IF Mary had any other kids, Jewish law would have them supporting her. Would Jesus have NOT followed law? Of course not.

@@jeroenky6038 hi brother. Most immediately would be the NT. This is John Calvin’s proof (yeah, the Protestant reformer). In Gal 1:19, Paul goes to Jerusalem to see Peter also saw James, the Lord’s brother. Only 2 James’s were apostles, James the Greater, son of Zebedee who was already beheaded in Acts 12:1-2. And James the Lesser, who’s father is Alpheus. Eusebius History of the Church Book 3 and Book 4 After James was martyred, Simeon, another cousin of the Lord and son of Clophas, became bishop. You can, on your own tease it out as well, MT13:55, MT27:56, MT27:61, MT4:21, MK10:35, JN19:25 Hope you find that helpful

@PhilosophyUnraveled
@PhilosophyUnraveled 5 месяцев назад
@@mtdouthit1291 #1 We do know when Christianity started (gospel datings and epistles datings, 1 cor 15 creed dating (30-36 ad). We do know when people started preaching and who was preaching (the apostles, [Acts is the source].) The material from 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 is believed to have originated shortly after Paul's conversion, within about three years. This timeline is supported by Paul's own statement that he "received" this creed, likely during his visit to Jerusalem three years post-conversion, where he interacted with Peter and the Jerusalem church. During his stay at Peter's house, Paul gained valuable insights, possibly including this creed formed by the Jerusalem church. This early dating places the creed around AD 30, aligning with Paul's conversion in AD 32-33. Peter in Acts testifies towards the empty tomb as well, and other apostles are documented preaching in Acts. This would show that the Preaching of the Christian faith was by followers of Jesus who believed he rose from the dead (they wrote about it, risked death for it, some actually died for it) has a terminus ad quem of at most 60 ad. So it is likely preaching happened earlier (don't forgot that paul was writing letters to Christian churches as early as 50s ad). Acts: Acts of the Apostles is considered one of the earliest New Testament documents, traditionally believed to be written by Luke the same author of the Gospel of Luke. Scholars place the writing within a few decades of the events described, some even as early as the 60s AD. This proximity to the events lends credibility to Peter's account. If the tomb hadn't been empty, it would likely have been common knowledge and Peter wouldn't have risked making such a claim in Jerusalem where it could be easily refuted. Peter's speech takes place at Pentecost, a Jewish festival that drew crowds from all over the Roman Empire. This means he is making this claim in a very public setting to a large audience. It's unlikely he would have fabricated such a story with the risk of being exposed. Peter doesn't just speak of the empty tomb, he mentions himself and the other apostles as witnesses to the risen Christ (Acts 2:32). This strengthens the claim because it's not just one person's account, but multiple people giving the same testimony. #2 There is no "Gospel of Hebrews". It is the "Epistle to the Hebrews" and it can be dated to 50, A. D. There is plenty of evidence for early dating but one example is that The book of Hebrews contains references to events and practices in the Jewish temple that suggest it was written before the destruction of the Second Temple in 70 AD. For example, Hebrews mentions ongoing sacrifices in the temple, which ceased after its destruction. The Epistle is first mentioned by Clement of Rome around the late 1st century AD, suggesting its existence by that time. This early reference provides a terminus ad quem (a latest possible date) for the Epistle's composition (this already destroys your false dating). Some scholars believe the Epistle reflects Pauline theology, particularly in its emphasis on Christ as the high priest and the superiority of the new covenant. If this connection holds, it would place the Epistle around the same timeframe as Paul's letters (mid-1st century AD). Also there IS NO MENTION OF ANY EVENTS AFTER 70 AD. Initially, we can ascertain that a considerable period has passed following Christ's resurrection and ascension. Hebrews 2:3 indicates that the recipients belong to a second generation, having received the gospel from those directly taught by the Lord. Furthermore, it's evident that they have been followers of Christ for a significant duration, suggesting a depth of understanding in their faith, as referenced in Hebrews 5:12 and echoed in Hebrews 10:32. It appears probable that the letter was directed towards believers residing in Rome. In Hebrews 13:24, the author mentions that "those who are from Italy send you greetings," implying that believers who had left Rome were sending regards to those still living there. This notion is supported by Hebrews 10, where the writer urges the readers to remember their past struggles and suffering for their faith, including imprisonment and loss of property, without yet experiencing martyrdom (Hebrews 12:4). In AD 49, Emperor Claudius expelled Jews, including likely many Jewish Christians, from Rome due to disputes involving "Chrestus," likely a reference to Christos. This event preceded the intense persecution and bloodshed under Nero's reign starting in AD 65. Thus, the letter must have been written during a time when the readers could recall earlier suffering but before the severe persecution began.

I did a master thesis on the creed of 1 Cor. 15:3-7 because I've been inspired by a chapter Dr. Habermas wrote on that topic ("Tracing Jesus’ Resurrection to Its Earliest Eyewitness Accounts" in God is Good, God is Great). This approach to the New Testament was so refreshing and rarely talked upon in Church that in 2017, I decided to start a doctoral thesis on 1 Cor. 8:6 (another early tradition) to understand more clearly the quick origin of the high Christology of the primitive Church. I'm finishing the thesis this month. I actually stop writting to listen to this video because it's so related. What scholars say about primitive traditions (also called prepauline traditions) is fascinating. Martin Hengel wrote that "more theological developement happened in the first 20 years of Christian history than in the 7 century that followed". Larry Hurtado says it's like a big bang, a rapid and intense production of theological materials in the earliest stage of Christianity. It would have been nice to hear Gary explain the methodology to delineate a primitive tradition (introduction formula, multiple attestations, structure, repetitions, so on) and how we can establish how early it is. It was very interesting to me see his thesis about how Jesus's resurrection was the key factor to bring about the early traditions (or creeds) and how it was also related to Jesus's sayings that was misunderstood during his life. Thanks to both of you !

@@a.39886 yeah read a few of Barts books and watched alot of his debates, I dont agree with much but I like his approach and respectful manner. Michael Bird done a book in response to Barts 'How Jesus became God' James Dunn from Durham University has some good stuff on Christology and its development early on. One of my lecturers studied under Robert Jensen who has some great materials (there is alot of stuff out there) Although with Habermas it's always tricky to say 'Evidence for the ressurection' especially in our scientific age where evidence is expected to be empirical. However one thing I do not doubt is that early Christians believed it. Will keep learning. One area I've been trying to find a christian response to is the similarities between some of the stories in Luke and Greek epics (Iliad, Virgils Aeneid) The problem with Bart is he things Doubting is some kind of support for his view. Its a perfectly normal response to question something you did think was possible. Also Barts response to the idea that Habermas says the early Christians believed Jesus was ressurected from the beginning, is pretty weak. Well 'I didn't say after 3 days, it could have been 1 week, 1 month. But the bible says he appeared over 1month plus. What's Barts point. Because he thinks ressurection is not possible he will always explain away people's stories as visions or dreams. And even if Bart saw someone ressurected he would say there is some kind of material explanation that science has not discovered. And visa versa the believer in God will often thinks its possible because there is a God.

I have had the pleasure of taking several courses with Dr. Habermas at the Ph.D. level at Liberty University. He is amazing! Great teacher and researcher! He's also a good man! He is a great guy and really explains things in exciting ways. Our discussions in classes are stimulating. His work is important and certainly demonstrates the trustworthiness of Scripture, the historicity of the Christian truth claims, and is able to dismantle the challenges leveled against Christianity. Dr. Habermas is someone I tremendously respect. His work is very helpful to Christians. If more Christians would take seriously Scriptures' command that we should be ready to give reasons/answers (apologia) for our faith then they would read and study Dr. Habermas' work. He doesn't just give the evidences, he explains why they are reliable, and uses only the data that the skeptical scholars permit. From that view he answers the critics with their own evidence and they have to admit their refusal to accept where the evidence takes them because of their commitment to skepticism over facts and evidence. Brilliant! I believe his "Minimal Facts" argument is the strongest argument for Christianity ( and all its teachings) that presently exists.

I just told this dude that consciousness is like energy and there is a law of conservation of consciousness. First all consciousness belonged to one being he created everything but as soon as he creates a conscious being he loses some of his own. Now there are so many conscious beings that there is nothing left for him. He said nonsense can you prove it. I said yes I can. It's easy first he was here all the time with the flood, and the manna and stuff. It it's clear to see, the more people got here the less we got to hear from him. That is proof. @@ocarcara3491 I truly want to beg you not to pray for me. Evidence show that the more you pray for people the worst off they are. A recent study for example demonstrated that if someone is sick and you pray for them they take longer to heal. So please don't do that. It is also evident that believing in a god leads to arrogance, hubris and the kind of condescending behavior your expressing right. It also leads to a severe amount of stupidity close to being brain damaged as to not only believing that you know the mind of other people but also being confined that it is a fact that you know the mind of other people and that is a dangerous path to travel. Than we come to the problem of sin. Lol. Sin doesn't exist unless you believe in a god so it's just a construction if the believer. The best way to get rid of sin is not to believe. It's enormously useless to create a problem and than also create a solution. And by the way there is no evidence for Jezus hai resurrection and if there is it's biblical evidence where so many people where resurrected that it doesn't make Jezus the.slightest bit of special. Now we come to the most important part. Anyone who dares to call and art form like music in general and reggae in particular a sin should be locked up in the middle ages. Now take a good look at what you are saying. You cannot help yourself but to act like a cheap whore and going from.bedto bed while doing drugs without the help of Jezus. I, my friend, can do that all by myself. The fact that you need an imaginary friend in order to behave civilized doesn't mean everyone else should. To me it seems just weakness.

@levimoorrees3397
@levimoorrees3397 2 года назад
I completely agree with your assesment; this line of reasoning only brings you as far as the fact that the early Christians believed in the resurrection from very early on. The question that must then be answered is: what caused the early Church to have this belief? Therefore, I think the title is a bit misleading and even the evidence for an early high Christology is not that new either (see e.g. the work of late Larry Hurtado).
@Insectoidoverlords
@Insectoidoverlords 2 года назад
@@levimoorrees3397 unfortunately I don't think we'll ever have "the evidence" for the resurrection nor do I think we can disprove the resurrection. As you said all we know is something caused them to believe in the resurrection, what that is is probably lost to us. As much as I would love to have the evidence, either way it would ruin the Christian message. Because if we did find the evidence of the Resurrection it is no longer a matter of faith but a matter of solid facts and if we did disprove the resurrection then as Paul says we above all men are most miserable. So in a weird way I hope it stays a mystery. But the logical side of me says I would like to know... It's a pickle!

@@Insectoidoverlords If I understood you correctly, you think that we cannot prove/disprove the resurrection because of some theological presuppositions that you hold? I don't have such presuppositions that would limit myself to your conclusion concerning the resurrection, but from a strictly historical point of view I tend to think that you cannot prove/disprove the resurrection. However, I disagree with you that we should restrict our historical conclusions to the fact of "resurrection belief". I think we can also conclude as historical facts the appearances/visions/meetings of the risen Jesus and the empty tomb. I think that e.g. N.T. Wright argues convincingly that both the empty tomb and 'meetings' with Jesus are both necessary and sufficient causes for the origin of resurrection belief. And you can reach these conclusions without evoking any a priori commitments. 😊 Btw. also Ehrman used to hold Jesus' honorable burial, empty tomb, visions/appearances of Jesus as historical facts, but nowadays he has changed his view and is kind of agnostic/denies the burial and the empty tomb as historical facts. However, Ehrman thinks the visions of Jesus (Paul, Mary, Peter and possibly James) are historical facts and thinks they are a sufficient cause for "resurrection belief". So I think that as a historian you can move a little further than just "resurrection belief" albeit the resurrection hypothesis itself might lay behind the perview of the historian. And I think that this is the place where faith comes into place either for the person who wants to affirm The resurrection or deny it. 👍
@Insectoidoverlords
@Insectoidoverlords 2 года назад
@@levimoorrees3397 no you didn't understand my perspective correctly. It's probably because of the way it was communicated. I do not believe we can prove or disprove I think we can only speculate based on the evidence that we have. Some historians claim to have found the body of Jesus based on crucifixion evidence. I do not believe we can prove that this is Jesus for 100% fact, it is a skeleton that had been crucified. Many people were crucified in that time and after in that area. We have no body which means we cannot prove that Jesus didn't resurrect but based on that same evidence we cannot prove the body could just be lost thus disproving the resurrection. I do hold to theological views but I do not let that dictate my logical views. There is no way we could do DNA testing there is no way to identify the body if found as Jesus of Nazareth nor could we disprove that it is not Jesus of Nazareth. Encounters with the risen Christ are evidence but they are not conclusive evidence. And since the Christian sacked at the time was apocalyptic they did not detail or write down or document evidence. They did not see a need to do this because Jesus is coming back tomorrow and we need to repent. This line of thinking is from Bart ehrman. As far as theology there would be no faith anymore if we can prove that Jesus was crucified buried and rose again that would just be following the evidence and at that point every logical person in the world would convert to Christianity. So either way if we prove or disprove the resurrection it kind of destroys the Christian message. I have not had a chance to review this because I'm on my way to work I will look at it later to make sure that it came across correctly. Hope this answers your question.

YES it is exactly true the “creeds” were oral formulas to remember the message received from a teacher, and that is exactly a widespread mode of pedagogy in that era of Judaisms before the Talmud (Mishna in Hebrew, Gemara in Aramaic, and I’m sure exponents of Judaism would say that’s evidence of the antiquity of the “oral law” over the Aramaic speaking Early Christian Era, but that’s separate to what I’m saying); the Mishna was written-down oral Hebrew material elaborated from Pharisees and their traditions more or less. I think it is VERY likely Paul as Saul heard and new these Apostolic formulas, because they were teachings in a very familiar mode to his traditions. It would to my mind be essential to read his citations of these formulas and creeds as if they were “mishnaic”; look for Hebrew and Aramaic structure to them and see what else might be gleaned. There is Jewish material regarding a pre-existing Messiah etc; some of these concepts were not necessarily so alien to Jews of the time.

I think it is evident in Acts 1:14-35 that High Christology was already being preached by the Apostles. Jesus had promised that the Holy Spirit would come to the Apostles and “ will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. “ (John 14:26) and here we have Peter preaching this on the street immediately after the Holy Spirit came on Pentecost! In this speech he quotes the Psalms as pointing at Jesus as Messiah and Lord ( Lord sitting on the throne of God). That is 40 days after the Resurrection. Acts ends abruptly with Paul’s arrival in Rome which is 60 AD and there is no event after 60AD mentioned. Most scholars believe it was written between 63-70AD, from eye witnesses testimony.

After that, how are we supposed to take Dr Habermas seriously on that topic/ on his statements about all the other people involved that are too dead to correct him (Paul, the gospels authors...) ? (Sry for bad English, non-native speaker here)
@EricTheYounger
@EricTheYounger 2 года назад
Bart Ehrman (in the Paulogia video) is either forgetting or misrepresenting his own past views, and the views of the scholarly majority, when it comes to the early christian creeds. From Ehrman's own blog post "Exaltation Christology in an Early Creed", "Scholars have long recognized that Paul [in Romans 1:3-4] is quoting an earlier pre-Pauline tradition here...The short story, then, is that Paul appears to be quoting an established tradition here. Why does it appear to be established and why does Paul quote it? It appears to be established because it has a very primitive view of things, in which Jesus is the earthly messiah descended from David; moreover, the phrase 'spirit of holiness' is not good Greek, but is a Semiticism - that is, a phrase in Greek that is given in the way that it would be given in a semitic language, such as Aramaic - the language of Jesus himself, his followers, and the very earliest Christians in Palestine. This 'creed' may go back to the first Christian followers of Jesus in Palestine. And one other reason it is thought to be an 'established' tradition is that Paul quotes it without calling attention to it, evidently on the assumption that it will be familiar to his readers in Rome (not Palestine! In other words, this is a widely held creedal statement) (btw: Paul indicates that at the time of the writing of this letter, he had never been in Rome - so he didn’t teach the people there this creed. They both knew it independently and Paul surmised his readers would know it)." Now, he can try and walk back his view by redefining "pre-Pauline" to merely mean before the WRITTEN works of Paul. This is an utterly incoherent definition, since in his very own words, the purpose is to indicate ideas that DID NOT ORIGINATE with Paul, and were ALREADY ESTABLISHED by the time Paul came around. Therefore, "pre-Pauline" should mean before BOTH the WRITTEN and the SPOKEN teachings (preaching) of Paul. On top of this, Bart Ehrman even acknowledges that the creeds came from JESUS'S FIRST CHRISTIAN FOLLOWERS IN PALESTINE. These things considered, it makes no sense to date any of the early creeds post-40 CE. If Bart Ehrman indeed believes that the creeds were written post-40 CE, he is in a very fringe minority of scholars, for the mainstream view is definitely that they were within years of the crucifixion. Some excerpts: The Oxford Companion to the Bible: "The earliest record of these appearances is to be found in 1 Corinthians 15:3-7...certainly not later than [Paul's] visit to Jerusalem in 35 CE" Gerd Lüdemann: "…the elements in the tradition are to be dated to the first two years after the crucifixion of Jesus…not later than three years… the formation of the appearance traditions mentioned in I Cor.15.3-8 falls into the time between 30 and 33 CE." Robert Funk: "…The conviction that Jesus had risen from the dead had already taken root by the time Paul was converted about 33 C.E"

I don't understand why apologists stress Jesus resurrection so much. In more than 25 years of doing counter-apologetics, I've never seen any Christian make an even slightly reasonable case that anything in the bible "applies to us today". So it doesn't matter if everything in the bible is true. The passing of 2,000 years places the burden of proof squarely on the Christian to show that any of this stuff that was originally intended to inform the contemporaries of the apostles, still "applies to us today". And given how furiously Christians disagree amongst themselves as to what exactly in the bible "applies to us today" (reconstructionsists, dispensationalists, etc) we skeptics are reasonable to conclude that the bible's messages on such things are fatally ambiguous. You cannot reasonably expect anybody to accurately understand fatally ambiguous statements. How could you escape this criticism? Merely insist that all Christians who disagree with your interpretation of the bible are not sincere toward God, since if they had been sincere, God would never have allowed them to be misled? LOL, that's a very prideful thing for an imperfect sinner who doesn't even claim to possess infallible teaching authority. Skeptics do not become accountable to the Christian message until the day some Christian can show not only that it "applies to us today" (given how the NT never expresses or implies intent to apply audience 2,000 years into the future) , but that the meaning of the message is reasonably clear. With all of the Protestants disagreeing with each other so much on what biblical passages mean, it will be a cold day in hell before any Christian "demonstrates" that the basic gospel message is reasonably clear.

QUESTIONS: 1. Were the books of the NEW Testament already established before the Council of Nicea? If you think so, then why were any other Councils held? Such as the Council of Carthage and the Council of Constantinople. We don't that much about Theology from, say, 70 AD til about..?...140 AD ? How did Paul become so dominant in the New Testament when he wasn't even "one of the 12"? 2. WHO wrote "the DIDACHE" ? When? Where? 3. Why don't we know who wrote Genesis? The Hindu VEDAS are said to possibly be the oldest religion/scriptures on earth. Why don't we know who wrote them, either? Think of it. The 2 oldest religions and no one knows. Do they? 4. Abraham left the town of UR. He went "to a land that I shall show you" apparently according to God. But-- what was wrong with UR in the first place and what do know about UR? 5. Many people have left strict churches. Jesus said: "for my Yoke is easy and my burden is light". HOW? and what does that mean? The members who quit often felt it was very hard, not easy. But to encourage anyone to go to a hyper-grace church so they can feel less guilt seems like a very BAD answer. Can you clarify any of this? 6. Near-Death experiences. Be suspect of these. The stories, and what people say happened to them, appears to get more varied and wilder by he decade. But there's more. For all the hundreds of testimonies we have, it's odd that when one goes through the "dark "tunnel" and then meets up with a "being of Light" that we have NO ONE who bothered to ASK: 1. Who are YOU? Are you Jesus? (no one asks. The "light" could lie, but still)... 2. Is Jesus "above" you? Who do YOU serve? Do YOU love Jesus? (No one asks). What is your Name? (no one asks). 3. Where are we, in this otherwise dark "tunnel"? Why can't I see any of my Relatives here? 4. If I decide to stay here and not "go back", what happens then? Where will I go from being with you now in this otherwise dark place? If people are judged by the same True God with consistent standards, why do the testimonies keep getting more varied? 5. Why won't Christians more directly engage and confront and disprove the skeptics who write books against the Christian Faith? The Bible wants you to "be ready always" to give an answer for your Faith. It also mentions "able to convince the gain-sayer". But Christian apologists AVOID, instead of disprove. This is embaressing for them and they may say to me: How do you know they haven't? Have you read every apologetics book? No, I haven't. BUT--- tell me then, --WHERE ARE the books that counter-argue, REFUTE or DISPROVE: 1. Bertrand Russel's "Why I Am Not a Christian" ? or-- 2. Dan Barker's book "Losing Faith in Faith"? (i think this book has now been re-named "Godless")..?? 3. Robert M. Price's book: "the Case AGAINST the Case for Christ" . Tell me. Name the books. Instead, what happens is, that is all avoided. The Christians are silent. Then, we are introduced to a "new" apologist. He/she doesn't doesn't show how the skeptic was wrong, either. It's as if they're hoping nobody will notice. Want more proof? Keep reading-- Years ago, JOSH McDowell wrote: "Evidence That Demands a Verdict". Then, Jeffrey Jay Lowder writes against it, and tries to pick it apart. But McDowell didn't (as far as I know) write any book to disprove Lowder. Why Not?? The Audience and public will likely think that Lowder "won" due to avoidance and silence! And more people leave the Church. (Later, it is said McDowell UPDATED his book and dealt with some of this. But it took a long time and I feel "the damage had already been done".) AND THEN....some years later....Lee Strobel arrives on the scene. His books are popular. But Robert M. Price writes: "the Case AGAINST the Case for Christ". Does Strobel write any book showing how Price is wrong? Again, No. And again more folks leave the Church. The whole cycle has now repeated itself. So THEN what happens? Along comes some "new" Apologist J Wallace, writing a new book saying how Christianity is all true, all over again. But does HE disprove Robert M. Price, either? No. Its more avoidance and - again - the whole cycle keeps repeating itself. We still need answers, to those skeptics. If it can be honestly done. Can it be done? Why isn't it? 6. Churches Today -- think of this. There must be at least 75, or more, topics or things that a preacher could preach about, from the Bible! But-- what on earth would churches today possibly do if the book of Romans wasn't in the Bible or Ephesians chapter 2 and harping about: "for by Grace are ye saved".... that may be true, but its nearly all I hear anymore. Does your Church have ANYTHING else to preach on besides yet-another-endless-sermon on: "love" "grace" or "GOD has plan for your Life!" Over and over and over and over and over. Its bad enough that churches are leaving because members have unanswered questions. Now, when they keep hearing the same 2 or 3 messages, they also leave cuz they're bored silly. 7. Where was ADAM buried? and Eve? 8. AFTER the Tower of Babel, people scattered. But earlier, as it was still being built, were there already people in Egypt at that time? If yes, where did they come from? 9. "If all of your questions were answered, would you become a Christian and follow Jesus?" Quite a few people today may say: No. Why ? There could be several reasons: They may not believe in an endless Hell. Christian: "but don't you want to go to Heaven?" Skeptic: "and do what? Sing praises to "the Boss" all day? How boring." Christian: "You sound kinda rebellious" Skeptic: "Not really. I don't want any religion to motivate me by fear, i.e. avoiding Hell, and yet, there is nothing "positive" enough that I would bother to want it. Heaven sounds boring. Can you tell me why getting-closer-to-God is a kewl thing? Again, who will counter-argue the skeptics? Someone will say that you cant write a book for EVERY SINGLE skeptic....but Christians COULD take, say, the THREE Top-selling Skeptic books in the last 5 years, and refute them. But they wont even do that. Have they? Name the books. Why cant they do that much? The public needs answers.

Agreed. This was a good (actually a great) gathering of select texts that make, in my opinion, very compelling evidence for an early high christology. This, however, is not the same as "new evidence for the resurrection". If anything, it's just a new (but not insignificant!) way of looking at the scripture, and only new to those who had paid attention to the pre-existing creeds in these texts. As for the Gospel of Hebrews, it's not canonical (too late / not used heavily enough in the earliest liturgies to pass that test), but does contain early fragments of pre-canonical creeds. Excellent conversation. He's kind of rambling in his excitement, but if you follow his train of thought, it's quite significant and compelling indeed. (It's just not "new" evidence for the resurrection ;-)
