IMSCARED is an absolute classic in 4th wall breaking horror games. I really wish that multiplayer game with a similar artstyle, also from Ivan Zanotti had come out, the name escapes me now but, I played the demo a couple times with friends and it was a blast every time.

The I'm Scared steam edition is incredibly fun to go through and get done, the only things that really get tedious and annoying are the grocery store level and the achievement hunting Like the fourth wall breaking is fun and well implemented, but having to constantly close and open the game to get things done is so annoying after the sixth or so time

I remember playing the 2016 update with friends in high school, even bringing my laptop to my friend's room and one of us taking keyboard controls and the other taking the mouse for one of the chase scenes. When we were at the very end that last jumpscare got me so badly I had a visible delayed reaction before screaming.

i remember playing imScared on the family computer in the livingroom, it was connected to the tv and had a wireless keyboard. it was late at night, i was probably like 13 ish? i had my friend over and we were freaking out trying to go to bed that night. my moms always been into weird stuff so she had a phrenology head on the banister between the kitchen and living room, so it looked like there was a white head staring at us through the open area.

There's still even more to the game after the true ending. When you delete the heart file and in the light world and go to the street, there is a new npc you can talk to that's out of bounds beyond the giant fences. I believe you need to have/play through the demo Ivan released as the demo has a file in it that will allow you to offset the players x and y coordinates to clip out of bounds to talk to the "curator" that takes you on a little extra segment that reveals Ivan is planning on making an update (possibly this year) that may include more community involvement.

Honestly this should be an excuse to cover "Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion" since Kira got permission from Ivan to put White Face in his game as a DLC speciman. In fact after a FnF mod on Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion came out, more people want to cover it and if that wasn't interesting enough, you can actually battle White Face in that mod but accessing the secret song is tricky as it pulls directly from the source material (You basically have a game crash on the freeplay selection screen, and Spooky pulls up a RU-vid vido on how to fix that with the original voice from I'mScared used. You have to figure out you need to step away from the Cat-dos and you end up Guiding Boyfriend into picking up a heart. You see White Face and you get another tutorial video about what to do next. You eventually get a text screen asking you to guess ite name and there's a third video with a cipher that basically gave you the answer: No, not White Face or HER, they mean its name in Spooky's game; Unknown Speciman 1). That song was really cool and even had HER come in for a bit before White face shoots her like in the game

This is one of my favorite games It manages to scare me till this day, no matter how many times I watch gameplays, I still shit my pants

I love this game so much, I 100% it back when I was streaming, and then sent a tweet to Ivan about it. He was working on his megaman-like at the time, and I just wanted to gush to him about how much I needed more of his horror in my life. lol. He replied, and is super nice. Also, 4th wall breaking is a common trope, even for underrated games, like that one freeware gore-y horror game called Demonophobia(literally "fear of demons" in Greek), which is an indie game made by an anonymous Eastern Asian developer nicknamed as "237". Speculations say that he's South Korean(due to Japanese websites referring to him as such) or Japanese(due the game's protagonist's name and the game's original language being Japanese). The game is about a Japanese girl with a traditional student uniform named Sakuri Kunikai. She didn't believe in religion or anything spiritual. One day, she found a book of black magic. She was fooling around with it. One time, she wanted to summon a demon out of curiosity. It was a success, but next thing she knows, she wakes up in Hell. She spent some time alone there, not knowing what to do. Eventually, she stood up and planned to escape Hell. Eventually, she meets a ghost-like demon, who is a pitch-black ghost with red glowing eyes in blue rags, his name was Ritz. He wants to help Sakuri escape since he wants to escape, too, and tells her that the only way to escape is by getting through the 7 deadly sins: Leviathan, the sin of envy. Satan, the sin of wrath. When you reach the end of the game, you meet Ritz in the gateway to Hell. Where he announced to Sakuri that she could escape if only someone had the book of black magic allowing the gate to be opened. He also revealed that he's the same demon who dragged Sakuri and her family to Hell. After hearing that, Sakuri felt lied to, cheated, scammed, that she came all this way just for nothing. Ritz explained that he's the reason how and why Sakuri made it to the end. Sakuri died plenty of times, but this "death" is meaningless because every time she dies, Ritz brings her back to life and erases her memory, allowing her to proceed. Ritz said that there were others like her who came all the way to the end, just to meet the same fate as her, while there were others who were left behind. They just throw in the towel, and give up. That was the part where he broke the 4th wall, which implies that others like Sakuri reference those who played Demonophobia and beat the game, while those just find it too challenging and isn't worth it. After that, Sakuri remembered all her deaths, and after reaching the end for nothing, she fought Ritz to the death, and when she did, she achieved nothing out of it, so she's stuck in the scorching inferno, forever.

This game scared the HELL out of me when i played it at maybe 11 years old on my dads computer. My sibling who was watching me cried. Today, we're both gigantic horror game fans, and I like to credit Imscared with that. Im still scared of whiteface to this day man.

This one of my most favourite games to this day I first saw it when i was 13, rn im 22. When i was a kid i loved it cause it was scary to me. Now i see that this is more than just a spooky little game. Understanding that white face is not some kind of malevolent entity and that it scares us not cause of malice but just cause it's in its nature is just sad. When i first saw the true ending i was horrified and heartbroken. This is a very sad and beautiful piece of art for me
