Radium paint was widely used in the 50s.
Majority of watchmakers stopped using radium around the 60s.
Though radium isn't completely safe, it's also not as life-threatening as what many make it out to be. As long as full protective gear is worn and the dial painters stop licking their paintbrush, they should be safe. There weren't any recorded deaths after the safety measures were taken.
However it's still somewhat dangerous if one would wear a radium dial wristwatch for prolonged periods as the wearer would be exposed to the radiation.
