Why is Shaco currently the 3rd most banned champion in the game? is he really that powerful?

He forces people to deviate from regular play. A casual player doesn't do well vs a champion who they need to adapt to play against. They want to play each game with muscle memory and not think. Because Shaco takes different gank patterns, or forces people to buy red trinkets to clear his boxes, people don't want to change their play and adapt so they just ban it instead.
