Hey man! Developer here, great video! Learnt a lot during this process and always cool to reflect. I was told new and trending largely factors in the total amount of revenue which would have some impact of cheaper price games, not sure if its true or not. Ive addressed the negative reviews and fixed the UI issues, did a major update and then cdawg streamed it, and almost gave it s tier which gave a big bump in sales and that carried through its first sale which is cool! It's crazy but im learning a lot on what to do and what not to do 😂 perhaps ill do a video down the road. And for the guy who said im entiled and expected a smash it, cool 🎉 i did not expect that haha
Hey man, sorry didn't see your message. Bro that's awesome to see that you keep working on your game. Why not, do a follow up video. This stuff is always interesting to learn from.
Asmon talked about this not long ago. Even when he plays a game and generate tons of views, if the game is not good, it won't sell. But when he plays a good game, there is a noticeable boost in sales. Building a large following doesn't guarantee sales if people are not hyped or if the product quality is not high enough.
That's a good point so you remember the title of the video in which he said that? RU-vid doesn't allow you to post links but I would like to check that out
@@Cakez77 I watched him talk about it on stream, the video should be "A Rant on Layoffs in Gaming | Asmongold Reacts" but I remember him opening steamdb and showing the day he played the game, and I can't find that part in the video, tho in the video he still talks about playing games helping boost it, and then playing games and chat being negative about it, in the end the game has to market itself which I think is the problem here. That video also has some comments on being a streamer which you might find interesting.
The videos you make are fun to watch because you constructively roast them for focusing on clearly the wrong things when reflecting on what went wrong. E.g. with this guy the reviews went into great detail about all the UI issues, same as you did early in the video before even seeing the reviews
I think he focuses too much on wishlists and marketing, and he seems to believe the reason his game failed is because of bad luck, Steam being rigged, or something like that. He says that maybe streamers played other games on "New & Trending" and that's why they stayed longer there, without even considering the possibility that those games might be more fun than his, thus having a higher average playtime and better stats overall. Steam would obviously promote those games more, since that makes them money as well. I think it should be motivating to see that he got into "New & Trending" with only a 5% wishlist conversion rate. This means that Steam is interested in giving your game a chance to gain traction, and there is little luck involved, but obviously if there are better games, Steam will promote those instead.
