This is SUPER exciting - this looks like it could be sort of a Project Reality 2.0 but using Battlefield 3 instead of Battlefield 2 as a platform, ofc BF3's engine has a lot of advantages over BF2s.. More info on this should come out soon with version 0.1 being close to a public release!! What do you think about this?
Hopefully the reload / recoil stutter bug doesnt follow into the BF3: Reality mod. It shouldnt as when Ive played on VU servers that have a 60hz server tick I dont notice it as much. Lots of BF3 players get horrible stutter after shooting auto weapons / mag dumping with modern nvidia cards. To try explain it, after shooting full auto, when the weapon resets (the game moves your weapon down, its not in the users control) this effect runs at what seems like 30 fps and it horrible. At 3:55 you can sort of see in the video but I know it doesnt show up very well in a recording (I've tried to record it) but when you go from running and jumping at 165fps to an animation playing at 30fps its very noticeable. But, It might be something thats server side as when I played on VU I didnt notice this effect as long as the server was 60hz and on a server at 120hz it seemed like it was gone. Anyway, good job on the mod just wanted to mention this as I cant really play BF3 anymore becuase of this horrible recoil stutter bug and it would be a shame if it carried over.
Project Reality has been updating consistently ever since it was officially released, with a v1.7 update coming out just 2.5 weeks ago! Perhaps a video or more on the game like you did 6 years ago? :-)
@@theShermanator There's a dedicated discord server for the PR community which I'm sure you can find. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or others on the server via DM'S or a chat room. Cheers! :-)
It's funny, I haven't checked Squad in a while, Im sure it's great with a group of friends but I have a hard time getting into it by myself, back when I played the Alpha of Squad, having a ton of really active talking players was probably my favourite.
@@theShermanator nowadays teamwork in squad is nonexistent. Developers are too incompetent to ship updates on time to the point they no longer give timeframes. And playing it is like herding cats. Don’t get me started on the HAB meta and the fact helicopters are bullet and rocket proof unless you hit certain components.
@@ThePlatinumsquirrel Personally I disagree. Squad really went down hill after the full release of the game but I think the community is bouncing back. It definitely depends on when you play but I am seeing servers full of communicating SLs and cohesive teams a lot more again. Yes there are a lot of problems with the updates pretty much having ground to a halt but it looks like the devs are aware of the community’s concerns and I really hope that starts being translated into more frequent and better updates.
Squad went the way of visual only suppression, just like this mod. So any weapon with a magnified optic can dominate. Players can ignore being shot at and simply embraced accurate fire. I really dislike the infantry game play in squad and embraced post scriptum, despite its flaws and low player base
Huh, I had no idea that this was being created and if this pans out then it looks to be great :) And considering how anti-mod EA or maybe DICE themselves, I believe, were and the lack of tools from what I remember, somebody still making something like this is... Wow.
This really looks amazing, if it doesn't give me a reason to buy BF3 I don't know what will. Played PR on BF2 back in college and with Squad being a disappointment (at least for me), this should be a good replacement for it.
How is this possible to mod a lot of aspects for bf3? I thought it was impossible this on the frostbite because the developer didn't add any modding tools
Squad is based on a free mod called Project Reality for Battlefield 2 - so really PR for BF2 had the impact which allowed Squad to exist -this mod for BF3 is really exciting for sure
I've been playing a lot of PR recently, slowly easing my way back in. Go by Hitman.Actual and I've always loved the idea of having it upgraded to a more modern engine. There is also a part of me that says it will forever be its own amazing blip in time. Like most classics.
Okay, wehn they do some little bit more Reality in BF3 and the "Run and Gun"-Play is Gone+ Faction explicite Equip (no Ak for US and no M16 for Rus) than iám in.
When you say you can no longer spawn on teammates like in squad, you cant do that in squad. that's the only nitpick i have about what you have said. other than that this looks interesting.
Damn, rembering BF2 RM ... 2022 still better than a lot of clones..... so that is why I dont invest fiffty euros in SQUAD, when this is rising. But please Hurry up, I want to play before we reset the world.... comon guys - best wihes from Germany
Don't know bout Squad but Post Scriptum seems really unoptimized to me, BF3 runs fine and like Sherm said it has the destruction side of things going on.
100+ players sucks so hard. one every mp game that i play this amount of ppl doing their own stuff is just a mess. even when a game is supposed to be tactic and slow paced and offers good mechanics, it is all ruined once the server is full.
@@theShermanator sorry, i was not clear enough. i mean i like it better to have 100 player on large scale battles with multiples flanks for infantry to attack and routes for vehics to maneuver, but once all u have are two main objectives like on squad (defend A, attack B) its like a massive 25v25 fight happening in one place at time which make your decisions as a small unit of men almost irrelevant. i really like the dynamic of the classic conquest mode, i think it leaves more room for strategic advance and its more rewarding from a player perspective
"Lets keep modding on dead games" what ever floats their boat I guess.. Feels like everyone is screaming "JUST GO TO UNREAL 5!" and nobody is listening... maybe we'll get a true PR successor in 2029...
@@ob0596 I have no idea of what you said but what I meant is the devs will add their custom skins and weapons later on. Might be why they're still using vehicles found in the original build of the game. The game will still have thing from the original, mainly maps, vehicles and weapon models.
7:39 'removal of all suppression effects other than visual' Unpopular opinion, but I feel most just misunderstand suppression as a mechanic. It's supposed to suppress, as in force the enemy into cover when under fire, rendering them ineffective at firing back. When I'm suppressed, I drop and either wait out, throw grenades or change position. Most players seem to just keep firing back at the enemy THROUGH suppression and getting annoyed at the increased spread instead of adapting. Many also don't use single fire mode, which mitigates the effects of suppression in case you absolutely have to fire through it.
I don't think it's really a matter of "misunderstanding" a mechanic - generally speaking, the artifice of a game naturally has areas where it has to give way for player input efficacy, and vice versa. The visual effects of suppression are something that a player can work to disregard and play through. The forced inaccuracy of suppression despite a player otherwise doing everything correctly to aim and shoot is *precisely* what people despise about it, because it removes one aspect of player skill from determining a response. In a game where one of the primary methods of player agency is pulling the trigger, having the ability to accurately return fire removed as a tool in such a decisive way is harmful to many peoples' enjoyment of the game. Yes, the mechanic encourages finding cover and relocating, but it's also a game where in any other circumstance, pointing and clicking on the correct set of pixels would have a positive outcome, and changing that just because someone got the drop on you feels bad.
@@Daishi0861 It's only harmful if you keep insisting that 'pulling the trigger' is the ONLY viable course of action in a Battlefield firefight. BF3 is a game of compromises. - Vehicle disabled? You're forced to stop for repairs or forfeit the vehicle. - Locked on? Forced to forfeit a countermeasure or give up your position. - Bipodded? Forced into position, easy target. - Long range scope? Forced to give away your position. - Flying high? Easy AA target. Flying low? Easy RPG target. - Prone? Limited navigation, takes time to get up, blocks ADS during the getting up animation. I could go on. If you view suppression as one of these compromises and act according to its rules, it WORKS within the general combat loop of BF3, to your benefit too.
@@C0T0HA I'm aware of the alternative options. The primary means by which you engage with people is through the trigger, however, and having that taken away for being second to the gunfight results in a poor experience for many. Just because it is a mechanic that plays into the game doesn't make it a good mechanic if a large portion of players find that it interferes with how they want to play the game. Hence why people moved on, and visual suppression has become more common. The issue I take with it isn't just that it makes firefights one-sided if you catch someone out in the open, but that it also impacts fights where both sides are engaging each other simultaneously, such as rounding a corner or down an alley. In these cases, shot randomness impacts an engagement that really oughta be fairly straightforward. Yes, you can duck back around the corner, but intuitively you also could just *shoot* the threat, and that's the intuition that gets people mired in frustration. I recognize that the 'tradeoff' is present and intentional, but don't feel like it adds value to the combat loop and am glad it's gone.
@@Daishi0861 It all comes to the last paragraph about not feeling the value of suppression in the BF3 combat loop. My initial statement is that beyond people liking and disliking the mechanic, there's a huge number of people who don't precisely understand how it works and how to act around it. They just get frustrated that their shots stop landing on target. It's not their fault though, BF3 does nothing at all to communicate how it all works to the player.
Excuse me please too lazy to watch the video. 1) What's the name of this game please? 2) Is this the same dev as ProjectReality or a different team? 3) Is it a standalone game? 4) Is the game 100% free
Was looking for a reason to get back into PR! This looks great. Can’t wait to get back in touch with some of the old boys from PR. Lots of love from Terrry if anyone who remembers me sees this
Why make this when we already have Squad? Like, it looks like the exact same game. There's almost no point, and I can guarantee the people who would enjoy this type of game will go back to Squad within a week.
@@Opachki69420 That's subjective. The particles and effects most definitely, but they're about the same visually. The mod appears to bump up the quality so honestly, bf3 visually looks better noow
The only unanswered question has to do with the tickrate, BF3 servers are 30hz while clients have a 10hz sendrate, which is why we had that whole meme of dying while in cover, so Im wondering if theyve found a solution for this or not. Edit: This mod is gonna be using the Venice Unleashed (VU) client which itself enables the ability to have 60-120hz servers, however theres no information on whether or not VU also increases the client side tick send rate.
I have so many questions ! How come the greedy EA allow them to use the Frostbite engine ? I remember when BF3 just came out, EA layers went after an artist that reverse engineered their engine to take screenshots of Wake Island with more bright and colorful lights, an they tried to sue him for that !
All I see in these comments are a bunch of people comparing this to squad and not Project Reality, and it pisses me off. Project Reality was the genesis for squad and squad never truly became its successor like it was supposed to. PR is the OG. That’s why this game is designed to be like. Go download and play PR. You’ll be happy you did.
I hope this blows up. I’m done with 2042, I have no interest in the new Battle Royale game of the month. Squad is fun but clunky. BF3 feels dated. I really feel like this Mod can provide exactly what I’m looking for !
I really enjoy the suppression mechanic in post scriptum. If there is no real tangible suppression effect on a player - then why bother using suppression? Reality - suppression is a tactic but if a player can simply ignore visual effects and put back accurate aimed fire...again...why even suppress? What point does a LMG/MMG have now?
