What is the difference between a ping shot and a rim shot? I know what a rim shot is but I’ve never seen an explanation for what a ping shot is. How do I do it?

@@robbywinslow8948when playing a snare drum rim shot, the bead of the stick is generally rougly 3" from the rim. It's only about 1" away when playing a "ping" shot, making a higher pitched sound.

@@robbywinslow8948they are both rimshots. a gock shot is when you rimshot with the bead of the stick in the center of the drum. it typically gives off a lower and louder tone, while the ping shot is with the bead closer to the rim, giving a higher pitched sound

It takes practice practice practice. I started drumming in 1956 I would practice anywhere from 2 to 6, hours, a day

in the same boat. been practicing paradiddles and just generally leading with my left hand when practicing and i've already noticed a pretty decent improvement over just like 3 weeks straight of practicing once or twice everyday

The heads ane tuned with special drum keys that allow cranking them to insane tensions

yes, the heads are usually made of kevlar used in body armor, so they take insane amounts of pressure

Top head is a Remo white max. Not sure what the bottom head is. The sound is also very dependent on how each head is tuned and how the guts are tuned.

Too bad your left pinky is doing absolutely nothing. There's literally no reason to play trad grip with modern harnesses, but here we are. Either tilt your stand, harness, or use a strap - otherwise RIP left pinky.
