A modern day Commodore 64. Very nice. I remember playing around with basic programming way back in the day with one of these, such fun times. Great upload my guy 👍
Here in Germany we have a nice board for the Pi 3 A+ (the only model supported) that fits perfectly into the C64 case along with a port for the original power supply, an on/off switch and the 2 joystick ports. It's from FaszinationC64, look it up. You can switch joystick ports with C= and one of the F-keys (2 or 3, can't remember).
I'm doing this with a pi zero w right now and I'm getting sound from the hdmi out. Maybe there's a setting in there? I'm having to mod some of the printed pieces too... I hope to have a video up in a few days.
Good video! As an FYI -- I think you can hit "Alt + J" on newer versions of Vice to swap joysticks - which makes things a bit easier. Although I'm not sure what version the BMC 64 image utilizes.
If you have the USB cable connected to the BMC64 board from the Pi, I don't believe you need the 40pin ribbon cable. I've seen a few builds that utilize a power module that interfaces into the GPIO for smart shutdowns which would inhibit the use of one.
Toss up. I have both. I love the mini console...and it's certainly cheaper. But the keyboard is better on an original compared to the 64 maxi anyway... the mini will require a little fussing to run some games.... but it's a great console. The novelty of an original keyboard is high for me. Definitely costs more and requires build time and customization. Finishing up a c16 version of this now...
