you have to remember what ever you set the lethe for, you are actually taking 2x that amount ! say you set it for 0.005 of an inch, you are taking 0.005 off the cutter side and in turn removing the same amount from the opposite side of the boring bar blade. do you do an interference fit? { axel few thousands larger then the bored hole so you heat the opening on the wheel to expand to a larger the hole and slid it on the axel} great job! so nice to see all the work involved in creating these engines!

I Loctite the wheels on, so it's a slip fit. The re-gaugable ones I do also have a slip fit, but they're keyed and have set screws.

Legend says Aaron still boring it.... No i´m teasing you and joking. On my riding car, wheels are perfect in one direction. In the opposite there is a clic clic sound. There is a defect that i can´t see. Not prone to derailment, just annoying. Since we run 95 % of the time forward, i put the trucks in "good position" , then i´m fine. I still wonder what´s the imperfection. So much work explain the difference of price betwen finished and unfinished wheels. "Just drill a hole in the center for the axle" is as we can see not so easy. Thanks Aaron for your patience and happy 4th of july celebration. Any train run with champagne (or whatever) to cheers it ?

why not just test it with a axle been placed in the bore

The axle is most likely a press fit.

@malcolmone1 I need to know how close I am to the final dimension on each pass. I know it won't fit for most passes, and I don't want to remove too much material. Remove too much material, and you've scrapped a wheel. Even wheel blanks aren't cheap enough to take those kinds of chances.
