Here we take a look at the Talkpod N58Plus, a Network radio which supports the new Linkpoon Virtual Amateur Radio Android application. Essentially this is the best, so far, in Network Radio applications for use with Ham Radio.

I honestly don't really see the relation to Ham radio.... It is a web PTT concept that tries to pretend it is 70 cm / 2 m radio - that last part I don't get why ? If people want to do this as a means to socialize on the web I am fine.
@Sarge92
@Sarge92 Месяц назад
you know just because something doesent work how you want it to does not mean that others dont find it usefull the most common use for POC radios is situations where you want to be able to communicate with a small to large group of people without needing to use the license bands or commecial bands the most common use for POC radios is as jobsite radios you throw a bunch of cheap sims into them or connect them to the site wifi network then all the security and event or building workers can all communicate back and fourth as needed my brother uses them in his cement trucks at work they are rareley if ever in a blind spot for cellular so its good for communicating with the trucks even if one truck has to go overseas to france (they do regular logistics also) that truck can stay in communication with the fleet even if its too far away for traditional rf to work no its not a ham radio no it does not use RF but not everyone wants that admitadly you only like that because its YOUR interest other hobbyists are into old telephones i personally like them because there a affordable way to participate in "HAM style" radio communication without the need for all the licenses and fancy pants equipment i have a few channels i get on reguarly to chat and chew the rag theres a couple NET's i participate in each week and its great we talk across the globe we have americans popping in brits aussies and everyone in between and all it required was a android device and a app

I have a very simple pair that runs zello - use them for road trips where the other users aren't licensed and distances can be quite great - easier than keeping a group call open and the units are really good on battery too. While an interesting app and device, it is not ham radio but it is an interesting toy to play with. What bothers me is that a number of companies are selling similar devices as SHTF long distance communications. Without the internet, this device is useless. Even if taken out into the wilderness, it is useless. Hardly a SHTF communications device.

Including c4fm ysf Fusion reflectors. EchoLink nodes. AllStar nodes. RF repeaters in the UK and U.S. and a large number of check-ins are on IP radios with PTT buttons. Both mobile radios and handheld hts . And of course many check ins are on traditional RF into repeaters. Or DMR radios into DVSwitch etc. also, the mobile client of Plumble and TeamSpeak definitely works with hardware PTT buttons on POC / IP radios

I wish someone would make a nice self hostable tcp/ip radio and chat system with server client so it could be deployed on a LAN, and function with or without internet. If anyone knows of one, that has client for iOS/android/windows/mac/linux, or at least a couple of those. Hopefully a server that runs on linux so a small low power cpu or arm board could host it. Zello is great, but since it's hosted and managed by others, it's useless if you don't have an outbound WAN/internet connection.

I'm also an Amateur & GMRS operator in the States, and have no problems with GMRS, FRS, MURS, CB, PMR... they're ALL REAL RADIOS... that will work regardless of whether cell service / WiFi is working or not. I've been through enough natural disasters and have seen cell/internet service down for two weeks or more. My only issues with the "no exam" and "license-by-rule" services are with those who wantonly violate/manipulate the rules, e.g. the linking of GMRS repeaters, which the FCC is in the process of stopping.

They are the premier seller of these devices coming out of China One other note, my previous comment I mentioned band 4. That is just an indicator. If the device does not have band 4 it also does not have the other bands we need in the U.S. And this is more of a problem on the part of the U.S. Not the manufacturers.
