I highkey watch Mamamoo's Killing Voice at least once a day. You should definitely check out Purple Hawke's Introducing Mamamoo Part 1 and 2, and then Killing Voice after. IMO, they are KPop's answer to En Vogue.
Here's some of the background info you asked for. There's a ton of interesting stuff to know about Mamamoo but since you're at their debut I'll stick to their formation and early days. Sorry, it's still going to get long. The cameos by various celebs were in MV because the label was trying to draw attention to Mamamoo and it was going to be a severe uphill climb. Mamamoo was the first group to debut under a startup label called Rainbowbridge World (RBW). As you probably know, kpop is dominated by a small group of companies called the Big 3 (which is really the Big 4 these days with Big Hit aka HYBE) and new groups from small labels tend to go unnoticed and usually disband within a year or two. To double down on the difficulty everyone predicted Mamamoo would fail at a pre-debut industry showcase. RBW co-CEO and legendary kpop songwriter Kim Dohoon plucked the members from the reject pile - two had previously been with another company, Solar (the one with the Christina pipes) had failed 40-50 auditions because she was thought to be too old, and the youngest had been bluntly told she was too fat and ugly to be an idol. Kim Dohoon had the novel idea of assembling a group based on their vocal talent and performance skills rather than their appearance or how they would fit into a standard kpop girl group marketing concept (cute, innocent, girl crush, etc). He called in a bunch of favors for the cameos in Mr Ambiguous as well as releasing two pre-debut songs that were collabs between MMM and famous singers. Kim Dohoon wrote Mr Ambiguous for Quncy Jones and the girls performed it for QJ when he was in Seoul for a concert while they were still trainees and before they even had a name for the group. Quincy passed on the song, which was originally titled Mamamoo. KDH re-titled it Mr Ambiguous and probably partially re-wrote the lyrics and the original song title became the group name. At this time RBW had few resources and little money to spend on promoting Mamamoo but fortunately KDH had chosen multi-talented women who could be creative partners. MMM has been involved in all creative aspects of their career from the start. Besides their vocal & dance skills and riveting stage presence as performers they're also songwriters, arrangers and choreographers and each member plays at least one instrument. Right from their first album they wrote or co-wrote songs, arranged the vocals with KDH, did their own styling, participated in developing music video concepts, and up until 2019 they did their own choreography. Back then they didn't have many scheduled events so they took to the streets and busked around Seoul to promote themselves. Mamamoo quickly developed a rep as the hardest working women in kpop. They paid off their trainee debt in record time by making up to 4 appearances a day, became the most sought-after girl group on the college festival circuit, and drew attention from the general public (not just young kpop fans) when they started making regular appearances on the mainstream singing competition tv show Immortal Songs 2 in 2015, where they earned the respect of senior artists and became known as monster rookies to look out for. In 2016 MMM became the fastest group to hold solo concerts, which sold out in minutes. Mamamoo is best when they're live so a good introduction is the Immortal Songs Medley, which was filmed at a MMM concert in 2017. The medley includes some of their early Immortal Songs covers. That show is a competition among current singers who perform new arrangements of classic (immortal) songs as a tribute to an older artist who is usually present. During their career they've done 14 spectacular performances on Immortal Songs and as far as I know they're still the only idol group to have multiple wins in the competition. Others have mentioned their radical re-arrangement of the Korean version of Tom Jones' song Delilah from the 60's and that's one of my favorites too, along with the heartrending ballad Backwoods. The best member guide is the two-part Introducing Mamamoo by Purple Hawke. Okay so!! Mamamoo has four members, Solar, Wheein, Moonbyul and Hwasa. Some of their famous tracks are Starry Night, Gogobebe, HIP (when this one came out it was suuuuch a hit), Egotistic and Dingga. All of the members have solo work too, and the songs are amazing! Although they are all very unique and talented, Hwasa has received a lot of critics on her looks (because she "doesn't fit" the Korean beauty standards, and has been called ugly so many times) and attitude (she has some airport looks in which she didn't wear a bra or something and people went NUTS). She is an icon for standing up for herself and saying that "if she doesn't fit the Korean beauty standard, she will create her own beauty standard" (iconic). But yeah they're all very talented and involved and their work is worth checking out!!
fun fact, moonbyul, girls who rap are friends of BTS Jin, they have a group that contains people born in 1992, I forget who is in the group, which must be jin, moonbyul and VIXX members whose names I forgot
oohh nice, mamamoo are absolutely unique. this was definitely a very unique debut but their early work as a whole is very jazzy. one mamamoo member is good friends with jin too.
i fell hard for them because they have such a mature sound since the start, you get so used to the girly or pop or girl crush songs that when i hear a more mature sound i am always excited
So every cameo there was a really well-respected artist/musician. Baek Ji-Young is the queen of ballads and OSTs in Korea. The concept for Mamamoo's debut was a girl group that is acknowledged for their vocals and talent by their seniors. I think that's why Mamamoo has a similar vibe to IU even though they are quite different. Their names usually are preceeded by 믿듣 (korean slang that roughly means : trust and listen) because everything they work on (originals, covers, feats, CF BGM...etc) sounds amazing
4:08 "Okay, who are _you..?"_ That would be leader Solar (Kim Yongsun). 5:00 And _that's_ Moonbyul (Moon Byul-yi). 😋 5:50 By all accounts, they were _not_ acting... 😉 Baek Jiyoung is basically a _legend_ in Korea, so you can understand why they'd be so upset when she gave them such negative feedback... but she's also friggin' hilarious... 😂 7:15 Jiyoung says to save their voices and not sing live, but they've basically ignored that advice ever since; they pretty much _always_ sing live (they joke it's because they can't lip-sync for toffee 😜)... 8:25 That was indeed Solar again at the end. Their CEO is _very_ well-connected in the industry, and the cameos were a bunch of well-known musicians he roped in to give the video even more clout. They actually also have a couple of pre-debut releases in which they collaborated with Bumkey (Don't Be Happy) and K.Will and Wheesung (Peppermint Chocolate), again to build some hype for the debut. Guide-wise, your best bet is probably Purple Hawke's "Introducing Mamamoo", which is a two-part series about the members. BP has bops, sure, but Mamamoo are the best girl group out there. The vocals, the classy concepts, LOVE em! They don't do the typical cutesy bounce and flounce, and they don't do a lot of the overtly sexual concepts either. They have a nice mature sound. I think they have more female fans than most other kpop girl groups, whose fans tend to be men (you can tell from the fanchantsbat live shows)
Fun fact: the song was originally called mamamoo, before they even had a name as a group. The girls got the opportunity to perform before Quincy Jones, the QUINCY JONES. Their CEO got positive feedback and then the song was chosen as their debut and decided to name the group MAMAMOO

Mamamoo's songs are hit after hit. And the ladies are talented beyond imagination, but also so nice and funny! Their voices and sound is so mature, they know and trust each other's vocals and it shows. And their sound varies so much but still has their soul on is. I hope you do more of them whenever you get the chance. 💖

I love their mature concept that was there from the start and how they are so involved into their own music, writing, producing and all that! Not all their music is to my tastes as they go much more jazzy and r&b and I'm more of a hype music person myself but they are vocal queens for sure, I would say best female vocals in kpop. The bit at the end of the video was a prank played on the girls by the band and producer, the woman was an actress brought in to put the girls down and make it seem like she was unimpressed. The reactions of the four girls are genuine and real, as they didn’t quite know what to make of the whole situation they reacted as you see, their reactions at the end when they learn the truth is why it made it into the videos final cut. Quite a debut video!!!!.

Welcome to the vocal rabbit hole of Mamamoo. Solar is the one you noticed vocal wise. Dingo Killing Voice (medley of their songs discography from debut to now); Immortal Songs Medley, Delilah, Backwoods (competition covers from the show Immortal songs) are the best place to start vocally. As you noticed they were touted as a very strong vocal powerhouse early and despite coming from a small company, have found their way to being one of the most well respected groups in Korea and amongst international kpop fans. Everyone in the video is famous singers. That shows the faith their producer had in them. Yes that was Solar. She has pipes. All the girls have resigned with their company...except WheeIn, the one with short hair...they are still in talks with her.

I love people’s reactions when they experience MAMAMOO for the first time! MAMAMOO debuted in 2014, so they’ve been around for a while. They are known for their strong vocals and live performances. I would recommend watching their introduction guides from Purple Hawke to get a sense of who they are (there are 2 of them). Definitely a must see for people getting into MAMAMOO.
mamamoo really is one of my favorites. they have always been a more mature group and have such a different style. there is no one like them. each of the members are so unique and have their own style and they all come together so gracefully. i really hope you keep reacting to them and watch a guide to them to learn more. i cant wait to see more of them on your channel.
I cant wait to see you get into Mamamoo!! Their earlier times were more jazzy but they've pretty much gone through and slayed every other genre too lol It's been said before but Mamamoo's not a girl group, they are a group of women 💪❤ Purplehawke 2 part guide is lengthy, (10mins on each member) has quite a few spoilers but is pretty popular and the edits are craaazy good, I recommend. Man I'm soooo happy you decided to react to Mamamoo. Let me tell you, I think you will be pleasently surprised as you discover more from them. If you're looking for a guide, I recommend the one made by Purple Hawk. The guide is split up into two parts (each one for two of the members) and they are amazingly put together and so so informative. And their lives... Yeah you're not even ready. The killing voice medley is really good but it contains a lot of spoilers of their songs, so if you don't want to watch that, there's also the Immortal Songs Medley which is literally INSANE.

Girl please react to The Rose! They're a k-band on hiatus due to two members at the military but their songs are 👌✨ I recommend their debut 'Sorry' and my personal favorite 'Baby' their main vocalist Woosung also has a solo album with the title track "face'
Yes! “Baby” is my favorite track from them as well! I love the Rose so much! Saw them live before the pandemic and they were so talented and sweet. All the members are amazing singers, & Kim Woo Sung(sammy) basically sings in cursive & has such a unique voice. Check out his beautiful cover of Lany’s ILYSB as well.

Mamamoo has a lot of musical variety which is really fun. If you want to hear more impressive live vocals, Imortal Songs' Medley (which are covers they did for a tv show not long after debut) and Killing Voice which is a Medley of their own hit songs.
They're one of the grouos that I really love and enjoy along with BTS, TxT and Twice. They're insane! To song writing, albums, THE B-SIDES, their solo projects, and also behind the scenes.
