Man I miss so many of the live music venues I used to haunt years back. It makes me sad seeing how many of them have either shut down or are just DJ'd music now. There's still other places but not MY places.

I’m definitely better than Gilmour in some ways. He’s better than me at Bends . He can’t improvise like me. he’s good for 2-3 minutes and he completely runs out of ideas. I’ve been clocked at four hours and still keep it interesting. he still uses a pick. I do everything with Fingers. Gilmour is a technically limited player with good feel, but I’ve done tons of jams where people prefer my jams over the original players and that includes Mark Knopfler, Billy Gibbons, Santana, Satriani, Gilmour, Zappa, Mick Taylor, on and on. And that’s with purely improvised solos, not solos that were worked out beforehand. my improvised la grange solo has 3 million views and is the best improvised solo of this song ever done on RU-vid. The problem with these guys who are well known is everybody puts them on a pedestal because of ‘record sales’ and thinks they are some kind of gods. I guarantee you if Gilmour was not a name and released his latest solo album into the current climate, he would get no attention at all. I just listened to his latest album. I play solos better than that every day I’m on the street. popularity has absolutely nothing to do with quality. he calls that album the best thing he’s done Dark side of the moon. He’s completely lost his mind.

@@shatnershairpiece yeah there’s no question that you’re very proficient at the craft. Super musical, no doubt. Here’s the push back, though: I think the idolatry of these players is by musical laymen, and similarly, I’d be willing to bet many of the people preferring your renditions over the originals were also laymen. I have no doubt that you’ve improvised solos that many would consider refreshing and impressive compared to the original… I don’t think that’s really in question. I do think that the names you mentioned have earned their place in rock n roll history for good reason…. After all, YOU love their music along with countless others around the world. I’m also certain that there are aspects of the craft that maybe you’re better at than some of these people, but if the implication is that your mastery of the craft is in the same league, and that somehow you’re able to create on a dime superior music than what was carefully crafted and beloved around the world, I’d have to respectfully disagree. That would mean your skill level is absolutely top tier…. Like Hendrix himself would stop and wonder why you haven’t been discovered. While possible, I think it’s unlikely… but I think you’re a terrific player. I think it’s great that you can appraise your own rendition of La Grange as the pinnacle. I’m sure it’s great. For my money, the best improvisational guitarist I’ve ever heard is Trey Anastasio. Anyway, best of luck to you friend. Keep rocking. Peace and love.

thanks for the comment. of course they are known because they come from a time where it was much easier to become known, to be on the radio. that world no longer exists. guitar players are dinosaurs now. yes, I think it’s often in the same league and even beyond. it’s not difficult. you play for 50 years you get good at it. I’ve sold $50,000 worth of my original improvised instrumentals in the last 3 years. that is not nothing, especially in a time where people do not buy music anymore. that is huge. yes, I can create on a dime with improvisation, solos that are better than ‘crafted solos’. any idiot can craft a good solo with time to work it out. the real test is to walk out with no idea what you will do and make a good solo. it’s a very rare skill these days. I also play Hendrix and people prefer my solos. I get hundreds of emails from people who are using my music for therapy, cancer recovery, sleep, work, healing, nurses who use it for their alzheimer patients, and even hear from people who decided not to commit suicide because they heard one of my jams. that is beyond a simple ‘I like this’ into “You saved my life’, a level extremely few musicians will ever reach. It’s the pinnacle of musical accomplishment,. I kept a guy alive on his death bed for 2 years longer than his doctors anticipated he would live. listening to me kept him going. such is the power of improv. yet, I play the street and I’m almost unknown. It’s not about radio play, but I’ve been on the radio as well. Laymen? what is a layman? I’ve been interviewed by other big guitar channels by actual guitar players, and had solos analyzed. music is for people, not other musicians. If someone says “I like you better than Mark Knopfler” that is their valid opinion as they have heard both. it seems like you consider non musicians opinions as not valid. I never said I was a master. no one is a master.

read the comments. I get these type of comments all the time. people prefer my Floyd jams, my Dire Straits jams, my ZZ Top jams, my Santana jams… All over the originals. I don’t get 8 million view videos because my playing is ‘equal to’ or worse than the originals.
