As a Chilean I can honestly say that my country was never like this back in the days when I lived there. So what happened? Negligent politicians on both sides of the spectrum, a permissive judicial system strongly influenced by the extreme left, rogue savage entrepreneurs that profited at any cost and an uninformed poorly educated electorate that recently voted a bunch of novices to govern. As a result, Chile looks unattended, wasted, abused and a true playground for parasites from afar. There is hope...but it won't come soon, maybe in 3 years time!

How's Gabriel Boric as president. Kinda interested that a Libertarian Socialist is in power, and are there gun rights like the U.S.?
@mvc5704
@mvc5704 8 месяцев назад
Boric is a joke, he has no credibility and has a very low approval rate>30%. The problem with this guy is that he is very inexperienced, went straight from university to politics and of late has recognized the many mistakes his political sector makes and has made in government or prior while in opposition. The guy will go down in history as one of the worst presidents Chile has had.@@ShellshockDM187As for gun rights, nothing like the U.S. which is probably a good thing. The amount of civilian deaths would be out of control with the current escalating crime rate rampant due to some of the worst criminals from Colombia and Venezuela finding refuge in places like Chile where the Boric government supported open border policies.

I lived there for 5 years, left in 2015. I told my Chilean friends that Chile is a beautiful country and that Chileans ate ungrateful for what they have and that they were blind to so much the country had to offer them in terms of social benefits, health care and many other things. I told them that compared to the rest of Latin America and even a lot of, if not most parts of the 'developed world', it was very developed and things functioned properly and they were on their way towards improvement BUT that the country's downfall were it's people! I saw everything that was coming and instead of buying property and settling there I left because of how Chilean society were in a complete state of delusion and a conflicting inferiority and superiority complex. The way immigrants, including myself, were treated and how closed minded Chilean society is and the typical 'si no te gusta, te vai' got them exactly where they are now: in misery, chaos, a Santiago that looks like it went 20 years back in time and immigrants that REALLY came and ruined the stability and prosperity of the entire country. I said it, I knew it, I've commented on RU-vid before, I knew it was coming and here they are, a little 'humble yourselves' and a harsh reality check to beautiful Chile (or it's demise:it's people). Thanks for treating me and many others unkindly CHILEANS.

Half a century ago, even in the middle of summer, there was lots of snow on the mountains around Santiago. Now we see in the opening shots in May, Chilean winter, there is hardly any snow at all. Must be global warming at work. Today the wagons of the paramilitary national police, the Carabineros, have windows with screens so you can see who is in the rear. Years ago the rear of the wagons was sheet metal with only small ventilation slits, so you had no idea if prisoners were being transported or if it was armed Carabineros going out on a raid. The Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia was cruel to the natives and very much disliked. He was vanquished and killed; according to one story he was made to kneel and molten gold was poured down his throat as punishment. There are about three other stories as to the demise of Pedro de Valdivia. The metro maps used to be (maybe still) elegantly folded so you simply open a little cardboard booklet and the whole metro map unfolds with maybe 20 radiating folds. Close it with a simple motion, and the map of the whole city metro would automatically fold up with zero fuss or delay or confusion.

I'm Spanish, I lived for several years in Chile for business. I had to close my company in Santiago as a result of the instability produced by the left-wing revolution of 2019. Then that left came to government and since then the country has been ruined by policies of very little promotion of entrepreneurship, along with ultra-permissive policies in illegal immigration from Venezuela, Colombia, Haiti, Peru and Bolivia. This increased crime and together with the current mayor of Santiago (who is extreme left), the capital city was transformed into a city commanded by illegal immigrants and not by Chileans citizens, bringing their customs and culture that invaded the streets. I left many great friends there and I'm very sorry that your beautiful country has fallen into this setback. If they change to those socialist authorities Chile will return to the path to development.

@@WannaWalk Despues que acabe el invierno, con un dia soleado anda de nuevo al Paseo Ahumada y el casco historico. Te lo dejo de tarea mejor. Y reemplaza ese video por el que harás actual.

The amount of people wearing muzzles in open air is a good indicator of social and cognitive degeneration. Chile is not up for a good future

It's not third-world given that it has running water almost everywhere, a relatively good education system, and is the most economically developed country in Latin America. It's not, however, first-world either; it's more like second-world -- emerging and continuing to develop. I was last there about 12 years ago and didn't see nearly as much street vending, but I know there has been a lot more immigration to the country since then, from other countries in South America as well as Haiti. Chileans are right now in the process of rewriting the constitution to replace the one put in place during the Pinochet-era (dictatorship which lasted from 1973-1990); the county is going through a type of revolution at the moment. Big changes. Economic inequality has been an issue, as in a lot of countries these days, but hopefully Chile gets a constitution in place that will better protect the people, represent the majority, and not keep so many things privatized.

Why do people still wear masks? There is A LOT of animation and much "colour" in this city. Here, they are not so poor as in Cuba, but it seems- to me that they are not so "warm to heart" as Cubans...There are a lot of vendors in the street, but we don't know anything about the salary (in US dollars) there and also, about the prices for this merchandise!... Maybe in the future- you'll be more accurate in a presentation...Me, I would like to travel to Brazil...
