another terrible day for……oh, wait. 😢 Ep 3 shows extremes of religion, Ep 4 shows extremes of science. any ideology can be twisted. and the “we know we’re not devils. we know we’re not gods. we’re only human!” hits hard
In my opinion, Fullmetal Alchemist (Brotherhood + manga) is one of the best stories out there. It has everything; good artstyle, complex and appealing characters, a cohesive storyline, good humor, a unique and interesting concept and world that I would love to know more about. It's a 10/10 masterpiece for me, and I keep going back to rewatch it at least once a year. It never gets old.
There was one line in the manga that I always wish they kept here. Right after Al stops Ed from beating Tucker to death, Tucker tries to keep yammering on, and Al snaps back, “Say one more thing and I’LL be the one to shut you up!” Just shows you that what Tucker did was so twisted that even a sweet boy like Al was *barely* able to keep himself from absolutely *losing his shit*.
One of the beauties of manga/anime is that the source material is both a visual and a narrative medium. The author/artist can use both methods to tell a story in a way that books cannot.
Fun fact: Episode 3 is actually the first story in the manga. The Freezing Alchemist story is show only (though they connected it well to the larger story and moved some later character introductions into it), and the big flashback in episode 2 comes way later.
@20:25 you're thinking of Wanderer Above the Sea of Clouds, it's an example of the sublime in Romanticism, and the power of nature vs. man. really good connection to draw though
It's interesting you bring up Greek mythology b/c there is a another reference (aside from the Chimera and Icarus story) here, which is Leto. Leto was a goddess who was the mother of Artemis and Apollo.
It's called negative space. Also not an art major, but an artist. Actually terms don't matter. Everything is its own self. This is one of the best animes ever, probably in my top 3, along with Monster and Code Geass.
Yes, this is explained in the manga and the original 2009 anime. He was a corrupt military man who bankrupted the town of Youswell with heavy taxation.
We see the contrast yet the similarity of extreme measures from both sides in these couple of episodes. What happens if blind faith to religion goes too far, and what happens if progress in the name of science (alchemy) goes too far. Two sides of the same coin.
