in the OT and the sequels one always knew exactly how big each of the death stars were relative to us and to each other, and we could get a good sense of the bigness of the empire and the dark side from it. Star wars is a big property with a lot of big lore and this tiny person should honour it.

Those kind of things sound unrealistic but they actually happen. I once had an idea I deemed pretty original for a book, wrote down the outline, and after deciding on the title googled it to see if it was taken. *Not only the title was taken, the entire main twist/theme of the book was* . It was a bestseller I had never heard about. That was... A both encouraging and sad moment.

I've always been a HUGE fan of horror, and it doesn't take long to notice that different cultures each have their own "standard" horror tropes. The hot teens getting hacked up in the US, the violent-death-spirit seeking revenge in Japan, the battle against nature representing inner human struggles in the UK, etc. I ended up writing a story outline based on this idea, with each trope being orchestrated by government groups pushing cultural morality lessons. I planned to expand it into a full novel. A couple years later... Cabin in the Woods came out. :(

Honestly, I think a sci-fi universe ruled by Tyra Banks is the best concept I've heard for a novel in a long time.

To be fair, that's a very common term for years in science fiction. It's short for "stellar cycle", which refers to the time it takes for the local star system to complete an orbit. Considering that most spacefaring sci-fi doesn't settle for interplanetary and usually goes interstellar, the usage still doesn't make sense, but I assume it's leftover from the early days of sci-fi. Y'know, back when visiting Mars or Jupiter was considered far enough, before we got bored with those stories and wanted to visit the star system down the street. But yeah, "cycle" is common in sci-fi. It ain't just this shitty story that does it. Most authors don't waste time trying to come up with something unique for it, 'cause they choose to focus on the story and characters.

It does very much feel like someone wanted to put a romance novel in a Star Wars skin. The absence of action is kinda funny because it would be helpful to getting the hero and heroine to bond, but also because the one setpiece was the bit where Jenny seemed to perk up quite a lot.
