We need to talk about game 5 between the Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights, specifically the play of Alex Pietrangelo who has now taken very bad penalties two games in a row. All that and more on today's NHL playoff hockey video!
Opposite of last year where Benn took a stupid penalty and cross checked Stone and got suspended and cost them the series, now the Knights are taking stupid penalties
Yeah, it's funny seeing all the comments about hating vegas and Petro's latest hit but nobody is mentioning Benn face crosschecking Stone into the ice last season. Rules for thee but not for me.
@@53block92because it was last year and doesn’t really matter anymore. Benn is one of my favorite players and I still haven’t really gotten over what he did, but that was last playoffs and irrelevant to this years playoffs
@@53block92 he has been dirty last year and this year Benn has kept himself away from the dirty plays so far this year but Petro just keeps on first Draisaitl and now Seguin what Benn and Petro did last year was uncalled for but Petro just keeps on testing his luck.
@53block92 that's old news. Who cares about last year, Ben learned his lesson and was punished to the fullest extent of the law. There is no comparison to these circumstances.
Guess you missed all draisaitl's slashes...which he's still doing in the LA series btw. Also Piet was suspended for it. Also, that was done in a game that had already been decided, in a series the knights were in complete control of. This is a completely different situation. But please, continue embarrassing yourself w the derangement it is highly entertaining
@@Effigyytotally with you! Like I'm not a huge oilers or knights fan but one of the most classless things I have ever seen. And of course barely any discipline off of it
@scawfan75 Benn barely did anything to stone on that incident, Stone is just a little pussy. Vegas players are a bunch of floppers. Stephenson should've gotten two minutes for embellishment on the seguin "hit."
@@scawfan75It was retaliation on Seguin for catching Theodore up high earlier in the game. It was originally called a 5 minute hit but reduced to 2. A few shifts later Seguin finished his check on Pietrangelo and he proceeded to throw a punch which bloodied Seguin. This was also called a 5 then reduced to 2.
Remember when he two hand slashed Draisatl last year? Used to love this guy as a blue but he's become what seems like a dirty and undisciplined player.
He feels untouchable now that he's on Vegas. Even VGK fans were ripping into him all over team social media. Tbh, he's not worth 8.8m anymore. He plays to the level of a 3m AAV goon nowadays.
@@frederickglass1583I think you’re right on the untouchable part. This could the bias as a blues fan but I don’t remember him doing anything remotely cheap or dirty for us. Since Vegas it seems like every year he does something cheap, stupid, dirty and suspendible out of frustration
Yup.... I had a ton of respect for him before the Draisatl axe throw. That was just pure evil intent to injure. He became a piece of trash to me that day. I see he continues to show his true character. A classless, selfish, rat. Glad to see it's going to cost him more this time. He cost his team the game and probably the series.
of course it’s big ego pietrangelo remember last year when the oilers played vegas, he committed a heinous slashing penalty on draisaitl’s arms basically assault
Yup, and Vegas fans defend it. And when they suspended him only one game, inexplicably.. they HAD to make up an instigating call to suspend Nurse for the game too. Bettman’s golden children get baby’d along by the league. It’s a disgrace.
Easily the best opening round series. But a lot of low slope hockey soys get all emotional about knights "cheating" so they give em the silent treatment. Very feminine vibe from these types
@@liljoe31 Agreed. WPG/COL looked promising until it didn’t. Can’t blame him though… this was the first game of the series with a reasonable start time. Hard to turn around a coherent video when the games end at 1 or 2AM.
@lukuffer Hadnt thought of that and does make sense. And i agree w the jist of this video too. But i do think he protest too much about not hating the knights
Not gonna lie was worried and though it was all but over when Dallas went down 0-2 in the series. Otter looks like he is dialed in and Dallas is playing a lot more energy. Series isnt over yet but Dallas needs to end it in Game 6. Not saying I dont think they can win game 7 I just dont wanna give Vegas the chance.
That's Pietrangelo. When he loses, he gets violent. It worked out for him last year after his axe chop on Draisaitl since Nurse also got suspended, and Vegas was deeper on defense than Edmonton was. I don't care about the Stars at all but it feels good to see it get evened out a little here.
RIGHT?! It's so awesome when a team cheats like Vegas has and still loses. They've literally got a stacked roster with three guys above the salary cap and they're still losing! LOVE IT!!!
IF Dallas pulls off the upset (I think they will), then we are going to see a completely different style against Colorado. Should be fun to watch them roll 4 skilled lines and get back to their creative game play.
So for anybody wondering, apparently the letter of the rule is that it must be a stick for it to have been a 5 minute major; gloved hand is just 2 minute minor. Correct call? Yes. Good rule? No.
It's going to be tough for Vegas. It is much harder to defeat a hot Dallas team than a cold Dallas team. Right now, Dallas is hot and rolling. Not saying they can't do it, but they have their work cut out for them.
The Seguin hit on Theodore is what changed this game. Before that moment, it was up and down... breakaways and short O-Zone possessions for both teams. The Seguin hit occurs and here come the scrums. Petro, trying to be the enforcer that he is clearly not, saw an opportunity to lash back at Seguin and failed. Ultimately, who knows how the game finishes if not for that lack of discipline?!
You can choose to attribute these results to LV's undisciplined play. I give the Stars credit for their superior effort and a superb mix of veterans and excellent young talent.
So the fact that they are losing to the top seed in the west, and second place overall team this year, is because they just don't have their sh*t together? How about one of the best teams in the NHL this season shook off a slow start and is now winning a series everyone thought they would.
Thank you! There’s been multiple videos where he talks about the stars as just “getting by” or the other team just gave it away. It’s really frustrating.
As a die hard Vegas fan, I honestly count agree more. All my pride aside, they have truly put themselves in this position, and they are the only ones that can get themselves out.. nearly against all odds
Give credit where credit is due, it’s not just Vegas doing whatever that’s hurting them, the other team is also trying to win and the stars aren’t a slouch, they were the number 1 seed for a reason
"vegas IR's🤓 ☝ " thats such a totally clever totally accurate and totally not overused name for doing something that every team has access to yet people only get pissy when its vegas because "oh nothing good can come from vegas" yeah boo hoo go cry me a river
Lmao the refs originally called a 5-minute major, but Bettman must've called them and told them that they punished the rigged winning team too much so they probably changed it.
@@YogiTheOne Nah. It first looked like a deliberate elbow, which would have been a match penalty. Instead, it was a deliberate punch. thus roughing, And even the blood will not make roughing a double minor. It was the correct call.
I think Vegas started really strong in 1 and 2, all the players were healthy (Stone a bit slow, probably not 100%, its the playoffs, he's gonna play injured. You can say that's my LTIR copium, I'm used to it by now) Game 2 was really physical, much more than game 1, with Dallas laying some of VGK guys out. The Dallas hits were insane. When VGK returned home, something switched. Idk if the VGK players were just more hurt and playing through stuff, some players were taken out from the lines and everything got switched up. It's been a mess ever since, and Dallas has taken advantage. Better goal tending, better depth, and healthier guys. Game 3 was pretty even fight down to the wire, Knights just couldn't mount any comeback in the 3rd. Game 4 was really weird? Dallas didn't score super strong goals, they were all very... lucky.. and completely taking advantage of Thompsons weaknesses in net: rebounds and off-angle shots. Combined with two super stupid penalties in the second, and Vegas just couldn't break Dallas after that. Game 5 was Dallas being the better team, and Vegas just losing all steam. Everyone looks 25% except Eichel and McNabb, no one is playing well, Dallas is forcing mistakes and desperate play from Knights who have barely had ice time with their lines. Marchy just looked pissed deep down, and he seems completely cancelled out with how Dallas is covering. I have no idea what Game 6 will look like, but unless VGK gets some fight in them and Cassidy flames the shit out of Petro and some of the others making undisciplined bonehead plays, its probably the end of the road. As a VGK fan, it sucks, but I'll accept our 2023 victory and walk away happy. Our guys are just constantly injured and made of glass, its insane how many were injured throughout the season. To Dallas, if VGK indeed blows a tire, it was a well fought series, a conference worthy matchup, and cant wait for the rivalry to continue. I cant really hate the Stars, this loss is on VGK. Dallas has a really strong team, beat the Oilers for us.
As a Vegas fan, I think we're dead here. Oettinger actually let a softie in last game, but it didn't matter. Other than that, he's been good and the rest of his team has been outplaying us (Vegas).
I've been to both Stars and Vegas game and both fanbases are pretty fair weather and not overly knowledgeable of the sport. Vegas is the main team in their town, its just hockey is not something Nevadans and transplanters know a whole lot about. Dallas is the 4th most popular team in their town, but in Texas Football is and always will be king so many stars fans are just passing the time in the offseason. I enjoy both fanbases though. You know they are true fans. Went to Dallas in 19' back when the AAC would only be at 60-70% capacity due to their continued mediocrity. I've been glad to see their rise and sustained success. Vegas was way better entertainment, but a lot of visiting teams fanbase take over because it is a destination and arguably the nicest arena in the league. Knights are the heart of Vegas and you wont find many of their fans in this comment section but there are few teams in major sports that mean more to their town than what the Knights mean to Las Vegas.
@@JamesSmith-ih2cx I wonder what it is. I haven't been able to watch a single game this season, just get LV radio . . Recall, they started the season strong, with the best record . . I should probably seek out more from RU-vid, I just didn't get around to it.
Bro it’s frustrating to watch you’re 100% right. The first two games Vegas played well. That sloppy play on game 3 should’ve been a wake up call they picked up and then just started to piss away their season after game 4, and Petro has been awful for them, with the addition of key players just doing bad, that Carrier goal was sick though but man. Dallas deserves the series win just based off of how bad Vegas is playing. If there’s any team to be part of the 21% it’s Vegas but not how they’re playing.
I mean, even the first two games they weren't at their best, it just kept slipping. It's almost embarrassing to lose to a team coached by Peter DeBoer. I really hope we can clutch, coming back from being the underdogs and beating the odds is something Vegas excels at, so I wouldn't count them out, but at this rate, we need to be VERY good the next two games or it'll be another SJS Round 1 ejection by a really not amazing playoff team.
@@ThePhengophobe I would be so happy if Vegas wins this series believe me; but after that OT loss in game 3 I don’t think you can bounce back from that. Logan Thompson stood on his head and blocked 40+ shots but then let in the softest goal during and his team hung him out for that one too. On top of it, talking as a hockey fan, yeah Dallas isn’t winning the cup; it’s a miracle if they do my opinion. So Vegas losing to them is pretty awful and sad.
@@Dre0044 Yeah, I'm not holding my breath for an upset win, though I'm hoping for it. The sad thing is the team being so stacked and yet losing to a team liek the Stars isn't going to earn us the same favors any other would, because of the absolute hate for Vegas. They keep bitching about how we haven't "suffered" enough to have earned the cup, and yet this would be the EXACT kind of thing to expect from another solid team just collapsing round 1.
I still agree with you as this has been a WCF-caliber series, but don't look now. Toronto-Boston to 7 has become something of a series itself. The only difference there is I dont see either of those squads making it to their respective conference finals.
Axe chop on Draisaitls wrists last year, spinning backfist on Seguin this year. Pietrangelo can help himself in that corner. Hope he puts his swing to better use on the golf course next week.
Vegas has shown flashes of being dangerous but nothing sustained. If they look anything like they have looked through the first 5 then they are doenzeo. Yes, even in the first two they were outplayed.
Vegas does love beating the odds and being underdogs. We embarrassed them at home, then realized that's not how we look like an easy bounce, so had to tone it back lol. Winning game 7 in Dallas probably would have a repeat of last year, with fans sharing their popcorn with the visiting team in celebration.
The whole series, basically everyone but Eichel and Thompson have not been in it. Thompson has been carrying the team, especially I think game 3 or 4 when he faced almost 50 shots.
I always worry when Eichel has to be the primary shot taker. I don't think he even likes that role. He is such a great passer and creator for his team so you know everyone else is down when Eichel has to resort to what he has been this series. Last year he couldn't get a goal, this year he has had no choice. LT has been a pleasant surprise. Outside of the dumb goals he allowed in on game one, he has been better now than he has been all season. I agree with your take though, everybody else needs to dial it up. Especially if they want a chance to play on Sunday.
I dunno what the deal is with Petro but I don't remember him doing this cheap shot stuff at all when he was with the Blues. I do remember him taking Draisaitl out of the series with a cheap shot last playoff so it seems to be a recent pattern.
as a knights fan, my sister and I were absolutely fuming at pietrangelo, that was incredibly dumb and cost us the series. After Seguins hit, Theodore played like he had a concussion. Idk about us next game but the best team’ll win 🤷♀️
@@francium6435 Dude. His hit was soft compared to almost any other hit on the ice. I could maybe give you he was probably already battling a concussion and that sent him over the edge. Just don't kid yourself.
@@francium6435 Just giving you the facts brother. take it or don't. Watch it again and reeeeeally soak in each frame. Seguin leaves his feet well after the initial contact. That sort of ruling doesn't come into account just any ole time a player's feet leave the ice around a hit. And ya boi's head there was just about in Seguin's ass. Don't lower your head, especially when bracing for a hit.
One thing I've learned about NHL playoffs is it's not over until it's over. There are no easy opponents unlike basketball where it seems rigged for teams to win and sweeps aren't uncommon.
As a Leafs fan I despise Vegas, but since everyone else hates them and everyone else hates us too… I don’t mind if they win because I want everyone who hates the Leafs to be miserable
Seems like you only watched the highlights to be honest. Vegas had a few good chances but dallas was creating chances out of nothing. Not to mention how many give aways vegas gave up. AND you didn't even mention the change of goalie in the vegas line up for a crucial game. Random question when you say villian do you mean expansion teams or just southern teams
As a knights fan I’m genuinely just so ashamed of everyone on the team rn (besides Thompson) and especially Petro for being a ghost this series and being a defensive liability, that is not the veteran defensemen we’re supposed to have
Stars fan with no love for Vegas, but he hit Seguin with his glove, not his elbow. There's better angles. Still should've been 4 minutes, but Petro pretty much gave us the game at that point
HOW is the Pietrangelo penalty not at least a 4 minute double minor. I've always thought any injury inflicted during a penalty is an automatic 4 minutes - especially if the player is actually bleeding. I did not think it required a 5-minute major, but someone please explain to me how that was not an automatic 4 minute double minor???
Thats why its the hardest trophy in sports to win. Home advantage doesnt mean anything, since its just guys on knifes chasing a bouncing chunk of rubber.
It's the law of equilibrimum as a state of balance between opposing forces or actions. They won two on the row they get cocky and overexited and law of equilibrimum strikes with bad strikes. You can see that in gambling you can get ten in the row wrong when you chase lost money or became over emotional when you win.
I'm a VGK fan, but I will be the first to admit I'm disappointed in their play and their composure the last three games. Much as I'd love to see us force a Game 7, I don't know if they've got it in them this year. Maybe they stay disciplined tonight and get some puck luck, but Dallas looks HUNGRY for it this year. They've been playing good hockey all season and I feel like the VGK just sort of squeaked by.
Game 5 second period was spent almost wholly in dallas’s zone, I was waiting for the tying vegas goal the whole time. Felt like Dallas was on an eternal pk but they put the clamp down on Vegas hard
At least this time when Pietro committed the stupid obvious attack, it was at a time that the game was still in doubt, as opposed to last year when the game was decided and he slashed Draisaitl. His stupid attacks need to cost him, or he'll just keep doing it, and more than the 1 game suspension he got last year, only because they were able to pull Nurse as well to offset the loss.
Was in Vegas and got tickets to game 4. Felt like lots of Vegas passes and afraid to take shots. I think they got one shot after pulling the goalie. They were down and needed to score. They were waiting for the perfect shot. 2nd period had lots of hitting but no results. Dallas seemed to want it more.
I never considered Vegas a villain, mainly because that will give them and their fans a chance to rally around being "the villain". Vegas are assclowns, talented and damn good, but assclowns.
I think it goes back a little further than Game 5. Looking at Game 4 halfway into the 2nd period there is a clear shift. VGK looked tired, like an entirely different team for the rest of that game. Game 5 and the line changes, the goalie change was like blood in the water. I mean seriously. Thompson is the only reason this series is even going to 6. His game 2 performance was unreal. Also something to consider: the Stars played game 4 and 5 missing two starters. Dividends of depth paying off. Probably the homer in me but the boogeyman looks less threatening in the light. VGK has put their style of play and best effort on the table. And like last year in the WCF where the better team won I expect the same this series. Perhaps the Knights find another gear. It is the first time they are playing in an elimination game since 2021 so we shall see.
After Game 5, Cassidy was asked about the Petro penalties, and he used the word, "surprised". Fast forward to Game 6, no stupid penalties, consequently we saw the best Golden Knights performance we've seen all series. Game 7 is going to be a WAR. Two great teams going at it for 60 minutes, or more is going to be epic. Enjoy everyone!!!
WHAT! I thought Petro learned his lesson after his 1 game suspension for slashing Draisaitl. Isnt that why Player safety gave him the suspension. Bone head play by Petro, reminds me of the disciple issues of Kadri on the Leafs. Not the same severity but same pattern
Absolutely loved pietrangelo when he was in St. Louis but not anymore because of stuff like this. It’s like he flipped a switch after signing with Vegas. Seeing him win the cup last year after the hack on Draisaitl was disgusting.
@@margesimpson100 It's almost as if it's a bad idea to not have key players play for months, especially during a real fight to keep in the playoffs. I will never understand how people think Vegas and or Stone deliberately circumvent with LTIR. The guy gets injured in some large way almost every damn season, and Vegas capitalizes and makes big moves. Others are just pissed their teams can't do the same.
Otter is the best goalie in the west. The east has a bunch of good ones. Maybe Pietrangelo is taking dumb penalties because he is rusty from his cap circumvention vacation?
Not even best in the series, imo. Thompson faced almost 50 shots, only let in 2 in regulation. If the skaters in front of him would cut the shit, this would be a very different series.
“A match penalty shall be assessed to a player who punches an unsuspecting opponent and causes an injury” Rule seems pretty clear. Not sure why they walked this back. Even if the double minor only applies when a stick is in play this should not have only been a minor.
The Avalanche are waiting and resting for either team and hoping they beat each other up a little bit. Avs are hot and going to be hard for anyone to beat!
Since my team's not in it, all I have is rooting against teams I hate: with Tampa out and Vegas facing elimination, I might not have much to root for soon 😊
Not a Stars fan but that tripping penalty was 100% BS. The guy was playing the puck and the Stars player just skated into his own stick and tripped. By this logic you can skate around with the puck against your feet like that and if anyone checks you, you get a powerplay.
Pietrangelo took a selfish penalty last year against the Oilers and should have been suspended for that slash but got away with it. Maybe the hockey gods are not letting him get away with it this time around.
