+Yellow King if I can remember correctly he's in a mini series called "occupation" about the British army in Iraq for which for the love of me can't find anywhere on the net sadly but was very good and he aced it as always.
I love this film with every fibre of my being. I honestly feel this film should be shown to all children in the UK at school as part of their RE or Humanities curriculum. It teaches such a harrowing and dark lesson and really digs deep into how messed up England used to be but also how messed up England can still be. Don't get me wrong, im not talking about primary school children but I feel secondary school is an ideal time for them to learn this kind of lesson.
Sad thing is that it's starting to return. The working class is rising, the criticism against immigration towards the western world abnormaly high. The questions of equality is rising, one side saying one thing the other saying something else. Right wing governments turns into Left wing ones over and over. The young are the true victims in these games of politics as they get the effect that something is happening and whether it is good or not they don't know, and without them knowing it, sooner or later, they will pick a side, in this future we are having, where nationalism is expanding upon europe once more. Dark times my friend...dark times...!
+Watson Yeah Teaches Too, To Get Fucking Racism And Facists Ideas On The Fucking Head, We Should Help Each Other, We Should Love Our Countrie And Be Patriotic, But Skinheads Have Mind Fucked Up !
The film is amazing, I know this is a specific case, but it's interesting to see the perspective of English people during the Falkland Wars. I'm from Argentina, and feel that war was terrible for both sides, but Argentina took the worst of it, a ruthless dictator sending young inexperienced people is not a way to win a war. And the glorification of war survivors here is ridiculous and is used as political propaganda. Those who were forced to fight in Malvinas are no heroes, only victims of one of the worst dictatorships this country has seen. Peace.
Drew Ben No, just no, I hold no hate for the Argentinians, a whole country cannot be blamed for the actions of a tyrant sending young boys to war that they could not possibly win. However, +Duckie, I would have do disagree with you on the inexperienced front, my Father fought in the Falklands War and he is adamant that Argentina did not send green conscripts to the Falklands island, what kind of invasion force is fronted by conscripts?
David Dodd I'm sure they had experienced soldiers, but almost every 18 year old was sent there, the only ones that needn't go were people that were born in patriotic dates (like my dad), they were the eldest man at home, or simply escapees.
This film/mini series is the best thing i have ever watched. the characters are all so alive that you feel like your living in their world. You share their highs and lows as if these people are your friends. I have never felt so emotionally involved in a film / series before in my life. it deserves way more attention than its gotten at least here in the states.
Same mate. That’s literally the life of most people in the UK. It’s much harsher, grittier and raw than people assume. The posh tea drinkers you see representing us are atleast 1% of the actual population.
This film and the subsequent series are literally perfect, and this makes me cry every time. I don't usually comment but this piece of art touched me so deeply and really changed my life.
Great opening track, raw and realistic, great acting, . Every actor gives top notch naturalistic performance and this theme still resonates after all these years. 70's was my era. It took me back to those times.
You do know this film was made to show off the dangers of nationalism, we aren't "english" we're British. The violent skinheads were not meant to be glorified.
Ludovico Einaudi gave this movie so much of its atmosphere with his genuis music - like John Williams has done for Star Wars. What a beautiful sadness and melancholy!
If you bury yourself in a hole, you dont keep digging.. Alot of racism going on out there, this film was not helping to dig the hole, it was actually filling it with soil, so dont get it mixed up, and start appreachiating your fellow human.
Always though that there is a really special flavour to the british soul, something odd, a mix of madness and poetry, tainted with a permanent and undefeatable humor. This movie is really beautiful, but for me, it has a special signification. It says something about our resemblances. Because i can rely, grew up in Bobigny, north sub of Paris, and it's the same here. Love and hate are close neighbors and stories end up sad. Long live skinhead music, english soul, friendship and the rest. Love from France lads (sorry for the english, but at least, you escaped my accent :D )
Rip Great Britain. Our country is longer what it used to be. RIP queen Elizabeth the last true great monarch to grace this nation with her reign. RIP my queen. I miss the red post boxes on the corner of every Main Street. I miss the train stations that looked grand. I miss the buildings that were truly astonishing to behold, the brick work was phenomenal. I miss the phone boxes. I miss everything that gave our country an original identity. Instead our government threw us to the wolves by joining the Eu.
If I was to give Life a soundtrack/theme this would be it. Endlessly beautiful yet sad. This piece of music forces you to sit back and think about life itself, be it both yours and everyone's collectively. It is a masterpiece.
I've seen this film by a fluke. The whole series is perfect Especially Joseph Gilgun is such an awesome actor and person. met him London while he was in Misfits. Signed my shirt and offered me a cigarette.
If you hvnt heard it search Dan Bull this is England he made an amazing rap/ song about this movie with this background upvote if you know what I'm talking about so more people can see that old gem.
The quality of this film makes me proud to be British. It’s not a representation of how bad Britain is but rather a social commentary on how easily some people were swept up by an ideology during a time in which many families were facing economic hardship and a changing way of life. It also helps to show the other side of a culture which sadly lost its roots due to skinheads becoming synonymous with nationalism and racism, however as shown in the movie, there were many skinheads that never had any racial tendencies and merely enjoyed what the culture stood for before parties like the national front exploited them. The fact this film is able to bring segments of such joy and also truly harrowing moments represents the excellence in British film making. Truly a work of art.
Great Film, Amazing soundtrack, really set the tone for this film. No other songs would fit! The soundtracks really hit home the ups and downs of this film big thumbs up 10/10
My favourite film of all time followed closely by Dead Man's Shoes by the same writer. And my Favourite composer of all time to! Actually, hearing Ludo on This Is England 86 is what made me want to learn to play the piano. I heard his songs and though "I have to learn how to play these songs!"

This film came out just after I shaved my head and became a 'skin'.. 2 years later I met a girl, got a house, our cat was born.. did alot of drinking, going to gigs, meeting new people, fights, arguments.. All thats left of those days is my cat, my old boots and the scars.. The friends are all gone, dead, in jail or just lost to time and distance. House, gone. Girl, gone. Sitting in an apartment writing this, feeling nostalgic, hearing my cat eat during the quieter parts of the song. Miss some parts of those days, most not. This movie is one of those ones I can watch a rainy sunday and just get lost in memories of, in some ways, simpler days. . Better days ahead of us though, that's for sure! 👊
