This Is How I Would Become An INSANE Ball Handler (From 0 To 100)

I made a ton of mistakes as a player when it came to improving my ball handling. Despite putting in a lot of time and effort, I never saw great results that transferred to the game and because of that, I always lacked confidence and success as a ball handler. Knowing what I know now as a trainer and coach for the past 5+ years, here is exactly what I would do if I could go back in time and do it all over again and I'm confident that these things would have completely transformed my ability, confidence, and success as a ball handler.

ya gotta get outside & walk, jog, run with the ball. Just dribble around your neighborhood for 30 minutes a day. Incorporate dribbling with your cardio. You will become very comfortable with the ball after a while.

Doing cardio with the ball helped me a ton. Makes you faster with the ball and comfortable at higher speeds

When i walked to school i would dribble a ball. Going downhill and on a sidewalk as well as going back home. That helped alot 😂😂

Learning ball handling in basketball is like learning to shred on a guitar. If you don’t know how to shred and you try to learn by playing as fast as you can, your playing will just be sloppy and you won’t actually learn the muscle memory to do it correctly. Same goes for ball handling, you have to start slow and take it slow, so you learn it the right way (and don’t have to go through the extra trouble of un-learning the wrong way).

I'd say being a Ball Handler has nothing to do with being great at dribbling. You can have simple yet effective dribbling but you know how to get to spots or to beat your Defender.
@VisionDrivenBasketball
@VisionDrivenBasketball 4 месяца назад
I think you’re partly right. You don’t need to have a crazy deep bag full of “moves”. But you do need have a certain level of ability to control the ball, especially when you’re moving at fast speeds. That will get rid of the limiting factors that would potentially prevent you from being able to get to spots or beat your defender.

I was a D1 point guard at Stanford and one of the best ball handlers to come out of nyc (very few drills). Once you understand the concepts and then get a feel for the ball you should be able to dribble. Sounds like as a kid you never learned or truly understood the concept of ball-handling.
@VisionDrivenBasketball
@VisionDrivenBasketball 3 месяца назад
Definitely, didn’t understand the it until after I stopped playing and I really dove into it. Have spent a lot of time around high level coaches and players the past few years, it wasn’t until then that I realized what’s truly behind becoming a great ball handler. I didn’t have coaches growing up who got it and could help me, so I had to figure it out. Definitely ain’t NYC where I’m from haha

I was waiting for you to mention footwork. Footwork is the key to good dribbling. The goal is to get your body from point a to b. If the feet are efficient the dribbling will come with work. You don't even need to be a prolific dribbler if you have good footwork. It's almost like boxing, if your feet aren't under you can't throw fast punches.

Pound dribbles and static ball handling is essential for young players just to build strength. But after you get strong enough it becomes less valuable.

Thanks for the vid. Btw my coach said to dribble on the wall 15 minutes per day while variating the direction of the ball. Do you think its a good drill in the house?
@VisionDrivenBasketball
@VisionDrivenBasketball 3 месяца назад
No I think there’s a lot better things you could do for 15 minutes. I’ve got a couple of shorter ball handling workouts on my channel if you go to the ball handling playlist if you need ideas!

Do you have any advice for helping me dribble at 6'4. I've been played as a center most of my life and I want to play as a guard now but getting low and dribbling feels unnatural to me.

Good question! I’ll make a video going deeper into that because there’s a few things you can do but here’s a workout that specifically works on becoming less stiff with the ball and becoming shiftier/playing lower: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JdFxgliCZIQ.htmlsi=_81H7NZPx4EIWVvX

Is changing drills every 2 weeks too much? Because I don't want my body to get comfortable with only one set of drills
@VisionDrivenBasketball

No I wouldn’t say there’s anything wrong with that. It’s good to challenge yourself, ultimately that’s what matters most whether your change drills or not

“sin willfully” is to commit the specific sin of knowing that Jesus is the final sacrifice, and not to accepting His finished work. It is not referring to the deliberate sins a believer commits after he or she is saved. For we are not perfect but as you faith grows it should be impossible to sin

Sure, doing something will get better results than doing nothing. But I could have had significantly better/quicker results if my approach and understanding would have been different. You can dig a hole with your hands, but it’s much easier and faster with a shovel.
