My wife trained for the 70.3 Galveston Ironman last year. She trained for over a year. first ever Ironman and when she was done, I couldn't be more proud of her. she did amazing and she is 48. I was there to support and just seeing it all in person was inspiring and she is 48 years old. keep it up! You will do great!
Nick, you should look into running shoe rotation. When you run the foam gets compressed and it takes several hours for the foam to recover. If you have 2 pairs of shoes that you rotate they will last much longer because each pair has time to recover before being used again. It’s definitely worth googling and doing a little research. Stoked on the new content! You’ve inspired me to do a half Ironman this fall🤙🏻
Daniel Lexow that the foam needs to recover is just a thing brands say to get more money, I’ve seen/read a lot of studys that says its complete bullshit. Good luck with your half ironman💪👊
It's actually a good idea. The foam I'm running shoes does need time to recover and rebound after a run. When you start doing big miles it will definitely help prevent injury
Daniel Lexow it’s an ASICS, there is also gel. It’s not only foam. Gel will last you longer since it doesn’t get squish like a foam would. You still have a good point tho
scotiansen my bio teacher said this is true and she runs marathons. She says that that’s why shoes you always wear get formed to your feet. They get the grooves for your toes and everything because you don’t let the foam recover
I love your attitude man and am glad you're seeing why people do this sport. I had been doing a bunch of sprint and Olympic distance tri's and was training for a half Ironman when I got a deployment tasking which halted that plan. Since 2016 I've deployed, PCS'd 3 times, and have been in non-stop training for a new career, all of which caused me to put triathlons on the back burner: your videos have encouraged me to make the time to get back into it. Embrace the Suck brother!!
I’m obese at the moment, but started to workout and got a diet plan from a nutritionist. I see your videos and want to run immediately. In fact, I ran yesterday, but my trainer says I should wait a little until I lose more weight to not hurt my knees. But the mindset is here! I want to get fit again. Decided to wake up early everyday and do something. Let’s go!
With that investment.. I think Nick should do Ironman yearly. Cus videos like this is amazing to watch how the human limits can be pushed & the amount of positivity in it.
Cem Gunduz being the top of your game in business or in fitness isn’t healthy mate. But he’s always gonna do mad challenges like this, not even for content it’s just who he is.
I think it would be too expensive and I mean he has a lot of other stuff to do and I don’t think he has the time to train enough every year because normally you want to break the record of last year so he has to train even harder and put more work and time in it
Better get yourself back to the bike shop and spend another $100-150 on a split nose saddle... :) That saddle you have is totally improper for a tri bike... Also, those Oakleys have way too big of a frame for tri position visibility. Best find yourself a used Giro Vanquish helmet, or just spend another $300 on a new one :) Helmet not totally necessary if this is the only tri you will do, but that saddle has got to go otherwise your junk will be numb....
I see so many iron man athletes that are really really thin. However, you still seem to have quite a bit of muscle on your frame. How do you keep muscle on your frame with so much endurance training?
Nick get you some Zipp wheels for your bike and you can spend even more money. Ironman is addictive but it beats being at the doctor's office and taking prescription medication. Embrace the lifestyle 😉
I don't think aero wheels are going to help him judging by his aerobar/saddle position, his posture can't be very aerodynamic, like many of the other "all the gear no idea" triathletes that don't know what an aero position looks like.
I don’t usually get motivated by external factors. I can only be motivated from within. However, you have definitely motivated the hell out of me. I just bought a used road bike for $40 and have begun my training. I eventually want to do a triathlon, but I’m more excited about the journey getting there. Thank you, Nick
I went to an iron man here in Florida this past year and just watching it/being there was really cool. The video is gonna be awesome I can already tell
I just did my first ironman a few weeks ago and I switched to Zoggs goggles for the swim. I LOVED them! They are polarized so you can see into the sun when sighting and breathing. I think you would like them.
Ryan Craig it sends out notifications when it wants to and I stand notifications when RU-vid approves of there videos. I’m still getting notifications for Christian Guzman’s summer shredding episodes even though it’s been like a week since he’s stopped uploading those
Nick, check out Tifosi glasses for the bike and run. Great glasses with interchangeable lenses, and they are made for biking. Keep kicking ass and taking names, Brother! RLTW!
What a fascinating journey keeping up with your videos from Korea to where you are now. Keep at it brother, you exemplify what it is to be an American.
I totally agree with you on going to the dark place and beating it!! That's my therapy!!! If your ever looking to grow your team, let me know. I'd would love to assist you in your movement.
To be fair he's the owner of BPN so he's collecting a bit more. Likey boss makes a significant amount more than myself even though we both work in the same place
with all due respect for the consistant training you endured for years in order to acheive the body you have now, but I don't think the muscular mass you have will help in acheiving any good timing, I saw the way you run, the volume of your muscles is a major obstacle in improving your running style or the flexibility of your body.
yea its all about his race goals. Is he expecting to win? no. Im sure he'd rather complete a race with a "decent" time and stay jacked as shit than finish top 3 and have runner arms.
I did IM Florida 2013 and it was one of the best experiences of my life. You will love it. Great community. Make sure you rest and don’t break your body down too far. Rest well. You don’t win it on the swim, ride hard and hang on for the run. Good luck!
A quick one - do you do you heavy squats / deadlift while preparing for Ironman? I'm going to do the marathon in three months and I wonder if it's smart to do low-rep / high-volume squat on my FBW days. Thanks buddy, good luck with Ironman!
The dark place.. I got fked over at work after working hard for 2 years for a promotion, thanks to some office politics. Never been angrier in my life. I stormed out of the office confused, went straight to the swimming pool and swam for 2 hours straight. Then went home , signed up for my first iron man that night. Huge investment, no going back... Gave up alcohol, gave up everything else, trained 5 months , 4-6 hours a day and completed my first ever triathlon, the ironman. We all have it within us, it's all about mental choices.
This is all going to be worth it all when every modern mode of transportation fails at the same time. You'll be the only one to make it into work. You'll win employee of the month!!!/
props for being so transparent about the total $ in so far! I've thought about doing something similar but this video is a real eye opener for me, the required $ is probably a bit steep even if you shopped deals.
Nick, join a tri club, it will save you money bc you’re over spending. Your cyclops trainer is 100.00, 300.00 can get you a nicer smart trainer. Plus, your garmin 735 is great for the half IRONMAN, you should upgrade to the 935 for a full so that battery life will last for the entire thing.
"The helmet was $1800 dollars", says Nick casually (3:55). Like wtf what kind of helmet costs $1800. I bet that was a mistake and it cost like $180 and not $1800 cuz that would be a really big waste of money lmao. Also, the most expensive helmet in the world costs like $1400.
IM is a bit over hyped. Anyone can do it. Anyone. Go slow on the swim 2hrs, hammer the bike 6hrs, walk the run 6 hrs. T1/T2 30 mins. That leaves over 2 hrs of contingency to finish. Its not that hard.... The people that don't finish go out too hard, bonk, and quit. Just go slow and enjoy the day. No one cares if you come in at 9hrs (which you could never do no matter how much training you do. You're just not built for it.) to 17 hrs. No one cares about your finish time except the 4 or 5 guys in your local tri club... and no one cares about them or their finisher tatoo... Enjoy the day. Go slow and enjoy it.
If your aim is 11-15hrs in an Ironman, you can easily get all the kit for sub $1000. Buy a used road bike with 105 for $500, slap on an aero bar if you really want for $30, basic suit $150, $50 ASICS, $10 watch, $10 repair kit, $10 sunnies, $10 goggles
if he wants to win and be super fast yea youre right. i transitioned from being more muscular and dropped weight to decrease my running times and i kinda wish i had stayed a bit bulkier. But its all down to what ones goals are. Nick obviously wants to complete the race and has a time goal, but doesnt want to waste away and get runner arms in the process.
Yo fucker. You don’t need this shit. We have a bunch of low key Marines along the “Lejerne” coast that are killing it with much less. Haha their swimsuit is fuckin silkies with nuts flingin smoking dudes with aero helmets and tri suits. Keep it real. Love your channel. Find a lot of motivation from your hard work, dedication, and love for family.
I like how he's doing it but his body composition appears to be the opposite of what you would need to do a triathlon, obviously he's not going to get an above average time but if you wanted to be competitive you would usually have to weigh around 70-85 kg
Every swimmer will agree - don't spend a ton of money on goggles. Speedo Vanquishers are more than good enough. You can buy a clear and mirrored pair for less than ones marketed for triathletes. The ones marketed for triathletes are expensive because triathletes think they're special and have fat wallets.
Lol my man needs to try install honey, paying $400 for pedals and shoes, and average ones at that. Fpr $400 you could get some serious kit if you know where to look bro!
I respect the hard work you’re doing and don’t want to sound like I’m being negative but I’m confused between the desire to be an endurance athlete doing Ironman and continuing to power lift. I’m interested to understand your thoughts.
Oh wow! Those protein bars look like Marc's Outright Bars which are absolutely delicious. The texture and all-natural approach is changing the game. I'm really excited to try these!
I found your channel from your collab with Triathalon Taren. I hope your training goes really well. I'd just like to mention you are introducing this sport to a new audience, and from watching your video it gave me the impression that you had to spent over 7grand to do proper ironman training. Like triathlon is somehow unattainable with a fraction of the budget. I'm sure this wasn't the intended impression and I might very well in the minority, but many of the accessories you bought could have been purchased for a fraction of the cost if you did some budget shopping. A second-hand road bike with clip-on aerobars won't cost over 400 or 500$. A second hand trainer can also be bought for about 100$ instead of the 300$ you bought for it. This info, I feel, would be an excellent addition to this video to give better insight into training for you but also your viewers. You, may of course may disagree with me and that is entirely justified. Just sharing my two cents. Go kill it out there bud!
@@Craig040 true, but still you need to get a helmet, some nice lycra, shoes etc which sets you back a couple of 100. not to mention bike maintenance. I pay 150 a year for my gym membership ;)
@@uituituituituituit Yeah that is true. Between my shoes, pedal, helmet, shorts, phone mount (if it's not on Strava it didn't happen), light, repair kit, and bike rack it did cost me a pretty penny to get started. The good thing is though that most of that stuff will last a long period of time before you have to pay for it again. It's been three years since I got my bike and I've paid for maintenance since then but that's it.
I spent way to much money for my first half ironman, but im going to get a few more races under my belt before I drop more money....I might not have the greatest gear but its get me where I need to go haha.
