1990-1991 Lexus ES 250
Going on sale in 1989 for the 1990 model year, the Lexus ES 250 had a reworked interior and exterior than that of its JDM Prominent cousin.
For the North American market, there was a single drivetrain option, the 2.5 L V6.
The first-generation ES 250 served until the second-generation arrived for the 1992 model year, the highly acclaimed ES 300.

I work at a Honda dealership, and a few years ago, we had a 1991 Lexus ES250 as a trade-in vehicle. It was immaculate with only 25K miles on it. The previous owner was an elderly driver who barely drove it. Not only was it rare to see an early ES250 that clean, but also rare with that many miles on it. Eventually, one of the sales managers actually bought that car, and he still has it today.

Cool. It would be nice to own one of these with only 25k.

Never driven one, but I have seen 1 or 2. The ES300 was so cool looking back then with the projectors. I don't remember any car having them before it 🤔

Yeah I remember when the second ES came out in mid 1991 it was so groundbreaking for its time especially with those projector lenses.

Man this car is so beautiful. It really gets overshadowed by its big brother but it only makes sense. If I could have one of these with some nice A/C and my city pop playlist, I could probably die happy haha. Thanks for the very knowledge/entertaining video. Cheers!

Yeah it’s beautiful. I just picked up a 1992 ES300. If I can find a 90 or 91 250, I’ll get that as well.

Coming from a 1986 Nissan Maxima SE 5 speed, I test drove a 1991 Lexus ES 250 5 speed. Lexus wanted to sell them badly and they offered a goody bag just to come in and test drive one. 2 things I remember from the test drive: it felt much slower than my Maxima. It was so much larger inside than I expected. Later that year, I Test drove an Acura Vigor, Honda Accord, Infiniti M30 and Nissan Maxima. It was close between the Acura and Nissan, but in the end horsepower won. I ended up buying a loaded 1992 Nissan Maxima SE. In hindsight, I should have bought a 1992 Lexus ES 300 or perhaps an Acura Legend.

I got my first drivers license in 1992 and drove an ES250 (unsure of the year) for my driver's test. I now drive a 2001 ES300.

This was an amazing video. I loved the history aspect and great voice narration. I clicked on this video, because I am the proud owner of a 5th gen ES on the XV40 chassis. It is such an amazing car with 138k on the odometer. I've owned it for a couple of yrs, and just recently dropped 5k on some replacement parts. Drives almost brand new again. I wish there were videos like this for my '11. Gonna check out some more of your videos. Really well done video. IMHO.

Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching. Yes, I like the ES-series in general. Very reliable machines. It’s the often forgotten ‘ES.’ Most younger people often assume the 92 ES300 was the first of the ES generation.

Quite informative. I looked the footage from the Japanese market as well. I remember these as well. It is interesting how far Lexus as come. I liked the information you shared compared to Nissan as well. I know Honda was already doing its thing with Acura and then they got passed up over time. Things are really different in 2023.

Should’ve changed the sheet metal a bit, at least the front before the A pilar. In relation to its Toyota reliability, I believe it would have sold better.

A Toyota Camry Prominent. It’s the generation after the one on which the ES250 was based.

First video on this channel about a Lexus model. More specifically the ES 250 was their entry level model until the Lexus IS (Glorified Toyota Altezza) came to North America for the 1998-1999 model year as their proper entry level model while appealing to JDM enthusiasts. I'm surprised the Lexus ES is still in production today, largely due to it always being a glorified Toyota Camry.
@doug6191
@doug6191 Год назад
I can tell you like the word "glorified". 😏 The ES250 is one thing, but the ES300 is a different situation. The heightened engineering standards of the '92 ES benefited the Camry, not the other way around.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
@Anthony Rivera yep when the IS came out here in the U.S. it was more of a proper 3-series/C-Class competitor. Yeah I still see a ton of recent ES models on the road-don’t think that model is going anywhere anytime soon.
@autochatter

The ES was the perfect car for Lexus. Lexus targeted luxury over sport vs Infiniti then....That strategy worked.

Great vid! Haven't seen a "original" ES250 in quite a while. I had a really clean 90 Camry v6 briefly and I agree the build quality on these cars was amazing....Even if it was a bit...80s boxy lol.

Yeah the ES250s are a rare site these days. It really wasn’t such a bad car, I guess customers at the time just wanted something more unique. Thanks for tuning in.
