This is how the 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada added luxury to the GMT360 platform

The 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada increased eight inches in overall length and more than five inches in width in comparison to the 2001 model.
The track was 63.1 inches and 62.1 inches for the front and rear, respectively. In its class, only the significantly-wide Acura MDX surpassed those figures.
The track is the distance between the left and right tires.
A vehicle designed with a wide track translates to a lower center of gravity, therefore yielding better stability. This feature is important-especially when we consider an SUV is more prone to a rollover than a typical sedan.
The new Vortec 4200 (LL8) engine got a ton of praise. Developed with variable valve timing, the sophisticated, all-aluminum, double-overhead-cam, 24-valve inline-six cranked out a stunning 270 horsepower. For the record, that was more than the Grand Cherokee’s 4.7-liter V8 as well as its “high-output” version of the 4.7-liter V8. The 4200 also produced more power than the new-for-2002 Mercury Mountaineer’s 4.6-liter V8-which cranked out 240 ponies. Ditto the Explorer.
Later, the 4.2 Liter gained an additional 5 horsepower, bringing it to 275. GM boasted that its new inline-six engine yielded V8 power, and six-cylinder fuel economy.
The 4200 found itself on Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2002 and several years thereafter.

Soo unpopular opinion here lol I love these! The Bravada was my favorite of these! The smooth contemporary lines, the amber turn signals, and the alternating signals! Ha Great video as always!! Your attention to detail sets you apart in my opinion

Well, that makes two of us, I love these too out of all the GMT360s. I still see them as nice-and think they aged the best out of the bunch. Yeah almost every GM car back in the day had those 1-2 turn signals haha.

Also, recall that when the Bravada got ASR, it was the ONLY SUV that offered everything: AWD, ABS brakes, ASR, power steering -- and you didn't need to fumble with any switches or handles. The computer took care of those issues whenever road conditions changed. Not even the Range Rover (which cost a whopping $51,000) offered this system!

My 2004 Bravada is almost 19 years old! Bought it Feb. 12, 2004. It was my dream SUV but couldn't pay $42,500. The dealer had a few, including a Final 500, marked down to $29,950. Had to buy it! Still love it. They are rare, but that's good. Took the badges off the tailgate and people ask what it is. Somebody looking at SUVs a few years ago asked what it was, they wanted to buy one. Told them it was an extinct 15 year old Oldsmobile. Haven't seen anything that catches my eye the same as this Oldsmobile. Plus it's put together well. Smooth and comfortable. And a real truck frame underneath. Loaded 2000 pounds of pavers in it one time. Worried about the air suspension, but no problems. GM can't do much right anymore. Going to keep the Bravada until it's 25 years old.

Thanks for sharing your story. Yeah it’s a “tough truck” at heart. Unlike most of the crossover/SUV offerings of today. Yes, the 3rd gens are becoming increasingly difficult to find nowadays. Glad to hear you still own your Bravada.

Your purchase story is almost identical to mine! We got it here in California for $32K out the door (tax & license included). We didn't remove any badges, but people still asked us what kind of vehicle it was... if anything, the Retro badging made people even more curious!

Also, through the late 90s, the Oldsmobile brand was the most reliable of GMs nameplates, outlasting Buick, Cadillac and Chevrolet. I kept seeing 1990 Regency 98 cars in my neighborhood 5-6 years after it went out of production. Those were gorgeous cars, especially with their unusual bare metal lower body and painted uppers. They also had a very unusual shifter: it was a long, rectangular handle that was ALMOST the width of the center console! Well, at least a partly blind person would have no trouble finding the shifter, LOL... PS: it's true many Bravada buyers grumbled about the lack of a V8 but they immediately shut up when the fuel bill came... 18 mpg isn't great but its rivals couldn't do better than 12 mpg!!

I liked the fact you showed all the generations and showed how they were compared to the GM counterparts from the other GM brands. I also liked you discussed the competition and more. I liked the last generation Bravada for its looks. I would have liked to have seen a digital cluster offered. I liked the fact you talked you talked about the Buick and SAAB version also. It was the Bravada with a Buick front end. I also liked the fact you talked about what happened to Oldsmobile. I thank you for this video.

We owned a 2004 Final 500 Bravada (#405), purchased new. It was a beloved vehicle for us - and in spite of the Olds division's retirement, attracted a lot of positive attention. Most of the time, it was an enigma to people checking it out. In 2017, someone blew a red light at full speed and broadsided us on the driver's side, right at the 2nd row door. We were not injured, but the Bravada itself was preliminarily -according to the first repair estimates - too close to being an economic loss for us to authorize repair. We ended up selling it to a different body shop, who we later found out replaced its rear door & rear Q panel with salvage yard parts and re-sold it. We're actually pleased someone else got it and that they're happy with it (we messaged through Facebook). For us, it was luxurious & comfortable, but still very controlled & athletic for an SUV. It was also, obviously, strong & safe. We had it over 12 years and almost 120K. A lot of great memories... it was our first SUV, and it really felt like the best SUV.

I had a 2004 Bravada, black with tan interior. I loved that truck. I only had it for a couple years until it was totaled by another driver not paying attention on the road and hitting me almost head on. Also had a 2002 Trailblazer LT a few years prior to the Bravada. Both were excellent vehicles with plenty of pep.

@Anthony Rivera Maybe...it would have been more affordable to a younger audience they were targeting at least..Olds had a very loyal but older fan base. The Aurora was supposed to lure in younger buyers. I think the Aurora was too expensive though and the current Olds buyers thought it was too radical. I'm not in any Olds or Buick fanclubs, but I dont know if we needed both by the 21st century.

@JEFF SHADOW Thats true. But a Avalon doesn't look like a ES350 with a different grille. A G37 coupe doesn't look like a 370z. GM was famous for badge engineering...and they were going seriously overboard with it by the 1980s.
@jeffshadow2407
@jeffshadow2407 Год назад
@@autochatter Agree to that extent, but I can tell a 1984 Buick LeSabre Custom coupe from the same year Oldsmobile Delta 88 Brougham since I have had them both. But do remember how the Nissan Maxima looked exactly like the Infiniti I35 sedan.
@autochatter
@autochatter Год назад
@JEFF SHADOW The I30 and 95-99 Maxima grille aside and standard feature content were very similar yes. In Japan, they were literally different trim levels of the same car.... They didnt have Infiniti there.The I35 was a placeholder before the G35 launched and I would have just bought a GLE Maxima instead.I think what made it worse for GM is they would have the same car with a chevy,buick,olds,saturn,and even cadillac version in some cases.

Yeah the 3rd gen Bravada video was requested a while back by a viewer. Since the GMT360 was designed and engineered in the 90s, similar to the 2000 Bonneville and 2000 Monte Carlo, we went ahead and made the video. That’s all of the SUV models for the time being. A 90s FWD V8 sedan is next.

I've always hated the Oldsmobile bravada, the idea of Oldsmobile of all GM brands having an suv was absolutely ludicrous. The ugliest and worst was this third generation, it makes the Pontiac Aztec look beautiful (at least the Aztec looks nice though). The previous two generations of the Oldsmobile bravada were ugly too. No wonder GM fired Oldsmobile from existence by 2004 lol. Honestly if GM wanted a 'luxury' version of the s10 blazer/jimmy, it should've been given to Buick from the beginning. Luckily the Bravada was far from being a hit, because that means we don't have to see them often lol. I actually really like the Buick Rainer and Saab 97x though.
@MotorMaster_Stunticon
@MotorMaster_Stunticon Год назад
Whoa! That’s harsh dude lol. To be fair though, Olds was one of the first luxury brands to offer an SUV. They had one before Buick, Caddy, Mercury and even most of the foreign luxury brands in the early ‘90s. This goes to show beauty is in the eye of the beholder-I always thought these gen 3s were nice, even to this day! The Bravada was actually well-received, by most shoppers. Olds had some good ones, like the Aurora. Who knows? Maybe we’ll see it return as an EV.

@@MotorMaster_Stunticon I don't know maybe it's because I was born around the same time that Oldsmobile folded in 2004. At one point I didn't even knew Oldsmobile was part of GM until I was 7 or 8. So maybe I'm just not used to the idea of Oldsmobile having an suv because they closed its doors a few months after I was born, if GM still had Oldsmobile perhaps I wouldn't hate the Bravada because I would've been able to get used to the idea of Oldsmobile having an suv. Perhaps if Oldsmobile didn't fold, they probably would've gotten their version of the Chevy Equinox in 2005 and a 4th and 5th gen bravada would've been a 3-row suv likely being based on the Chevy Traverse. Perhaps if Oldsmobile got their hands on the GM theta platform, I probably would've given the bravada a chance, because Oldsmobile would've became more experienced with SUV's.
