The 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada increased eight inches in overall length and more than five inches in width in comparison to the 2001 model.
The track was 63.1 inches and 62.1 inches for the front and rear, respectively. In its class, only the significantly-wide Acura MDX surpassed those figures.
The track is the distance between the left and right tires.
A vehicle designed with a wide track translates to a lower center of gravity, therefore yielding better stability. This feature is important-especially when we consider an SUV is more prone to a rollover than a typical sedan.
The new Vortec 4200 (LL8) engine got a ton of praise. Developed with variable valve timing, the sophisticated, all-aluminum, double-overhead-cam, 24-valve inline-six cranked out a stunning 270 horsepower. For the record, that was more than the Grand Cherokee’s 4.7-liter V8 as well as its “high-output” version of the 4.7-liter V8. The 4200 also produced more power than the new-for-2002 Mercury Mountaineer’s 4.6-liter V8-which cranked out 240 ponies. Ditto the Explorer.
Later, the 4.2 Liter gained an additional 5 horsepower, bringing it to 275. GM boasted that its new inline-six engine yielded V8 power, and six-cylinder fuel economy.
The 4200 found itself on Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2002 and several years thereafter.
