I try to be realistic most of the time. Monster Hunter is not the easiest game to get into and it is understandable that, even with the help it offers, it might be a frustrating first few hours of play... Despite this, every attempt I've made at reasoning why he would be frustrated is thwarted by his incredible capacity to forget valuable info 5 seconds after he acknowledges it.

I've never seen anyone struggle so much with such basic instructions... How does he even function on a day to day basis? Can he cook toast?

This was my first Monster Hunter game, I started blind and I KNEW MORE THAN THIS DUDE!!!

I like how Phil almost never changes his camera angle in any game he plays and is often seen walking into walls he can't see or falling off things. I also like how he starts out making his character look like himself and then proceeds to call him "dumass". Of course Phil doesn't notice anything funny about this.

It physically hurts to watch the chat tell him everything when I figured out most of this stuff on my own within seconds of being presented with the information.

I really want fanfic now of an aggressive, bullheaded hunter with a tired, exhausted Palico who does all the work for his hunter, who's completely ignorant to how helpful his Palico is and just shits on him at every opportunity because he's so focused on his own personal successes and trials.

His palico put out more damage then he did... XD

I feel like Capcom gave him a special version of the game where his Palico is godly. Seriously, I struggled a bit with Seltas and Kecha Wacha, and I played a lot of the 3rd game.

I feel like the Auto-Guard talisman is a thing he'd need more in the fighting games he... 'plays.'

For those that have never played a Monster Hunter game and feel that this video sort of trivializes a lot of the things that happened during the stream, I thought I'd explain a few things: -Currently with the newer ones we have 14 different weapon types. Each weapon has a set move list, terrain moves, and moves that require you to be in certain modes or stances. Weapons can take a bit to learn, so I would totally make an argument for DSP that anytime before the first hour is totally expected since he never really had much time to practice the Switch Axe, learn the pros and cons of Sword Mode and Axe Mode, or learn some of the combos. A little less leeway is given after that since he claimed he practiced or did research on the weapon and seemed to have somewhat of a handle on it. -Monster Hunter is a bit of a grind fest, but 4U and Generations (I'm not counting World as I myself have never played it) are a little more forgiving about that in the beginning. You can definitely get by with a few Whetstones, Mega Potions, and Paintballs but later on you'll need to make more things and buy more tools. You are a hunter and a hunter is nothing without the tools he needs. Just to explain why he had to do gathering missions. -Monsters aren't like the Souls type games in that you aren't looking to kill a boss that wants to solely kill you. The game designers even go far enough to say that the Monsters are not intended to be perceived as villains throughout the series. They need to eat, sleep, and breathe, so they will run off and do what they need to do in order to stay alive. Again, as a hunter you have the tools to help you when they do something like this. -The quests will give you free stuff. If you get stuck or run out of stuff, just wait a few mins to regroup and come up with a new strategy, and see if the Guild will give you extra stuff like First Aids, Rations... everyone likes free stuff. -You know how the pros in the Souls games can tell you what the boss is gonna do because he twitched his head? Monsters are kinda like that too. They have signs that will tell you if you are paying attention what attack the monster intends to use, so you can block/roll/dive out of the way. -Lastly, the games have been out for a while. If you get the games, go on subreddit, or the Discord server, or look up the monster since the stats for the newer ones (again, except for World) have been released. Some of them even give you tips and can explain what happens when you break a certain part. Altogether, from someone who's watching him play it for the first time and remembering back at my first time watching it, he didn't do nearly as bad as I expected.

I guess it's finally time. I never wanted to see Phil butcher one of my favorite games. But if I saw him play Metal Gear Rising, I can sit through this. I'm going in!

Judging by the way his home menu looks, default icon size, default white background, he has Pokedex 3D and Swapnote. I'm guessing Phil doesn't use his 3DS often.

Calling it before I start the video DSP Will: Not figure out the game runs on item dependency never use armor skills cart to the jaggi at least once get poisoned by the gypceros three times in the same hunt get eaten by a pickle never make a full set, and instead just make random armor pieces as he tries to blast through the quest line as fast as possible (and fail to do so) triple cart to gore at least once try out great sword and complain about movement speed try bowguns and not know how ammo works complain about lack of healthbars Not eat about 70% of the time when he should be try and use an insect glaive like a french piece of shit (pogo bouncing) Never learn to redshield on his chargeblade fail to mount. twice. attempt an egg quest. loses his shit because of slow movement speed says woooooOOO000OOOOooooow AT LEAST 52 Times fails carving/ doesnt carve get konchu'd repeatedly gets one shot by rathalos fireball bullshit dies to a rath's poison tail/claws never upgrade his cat. ever. lets see how it goes

I remember giving my brother a copy of 3U, 4U and FU back when he was 12 because he'd gotten interested in the Series after watching me play. Needless to say, my brother had beaten the games (well, the story portion of them) within a few weeks between school etc. I don't think DSP could possibly do that.

I'm so glad he stopped playing around the 4th Caravan.

there are so many times when Phil just doesn't remember something and it's painful. He thought the Aptonoth were Konchu, when Aptonoth are the first things you hunt in this game. 26 minutes in, and I cannot wait for him to try understanding skills.

I don't think I realised, but probably the reason why so many people have bad sets in this game is because of the Ace Cadet. It doesn't look like it has a full set, so...

So this guy is the reason that games are too easy these days.

I have figured out who DSP's audience is: People who can't buy the game themselves, so they watch him, so they can control a man (child) controlling a game.

I haven't even played this game yet and I am just amazed... "I am playing through this game 100% disclosure." Is he joking? Does he realize people have dumped hundreds, sometimes THOUSANDS of hours into this game...?

While watching him try to take down the great Jaggi, I rewound and played the same quest with my HBG and managed to do it in under 90 seconds. He was still trying and struggling to kill it, even with jumpcuts.

I will agree with Phil on one thing: The posing after healing/boosting stamina is absurd.

Hah, it would've been amazing if he would've started off in MHFU, I still remember my first time through it, even though my first MH was the first on the PS2, that MHFU specifically felt like a freight train right off the bat, no help, no tutorials, just raw and unforgiving difficulty, you know a game wants you dead when you've only played enough to have only the starter armor set and yet behold, a semi-immortal Tigrex with the most ruthless hitbox it's ever had comes charging at you at the speed and force of a true rape train. I would've adored to watch him squeal and squirm at that quest's moment, even more to see him struggle against something like the "Can't stop, won't stop Bulldrome."

I am a big fan of monster hunter and this is painful to watch.

at 10:04, in his defence there is no early game metal insect glaive. Probably due to the fact that it's a new weapon type, it has fewer variants than most weapons just in general, and the only one you can get for a while is bone. On the other hand the glaive is a lot more powerful dps-wise than most other weapon types, which is likely why the only early option is inferior materialwise. Though it takes mild competence to use, so without having watched further than that I'm predicting DSP will either give up on using it or horribly misuse it.

Just saw this in my recommendations and watched it and I gotta say... it's surprising I got into the series through Freedom 2 when the game did NOT hold your hand and you really had to use trial and error for things. I'm very glad I stuck around or I wouldn't be putting hours in MH4U like I am now...

I just hope to god he doesn't do a LP of Fire emblem if next year. If he does one for Ace Attorney I'm gonna laugh cause he won't pay attention to evidence.

A true testament to dsp's bad. A fucking palico did the heavy lifting and landed the killing blow on the kecha wacha, a basic, simple monster that should only take about 10 minutes at the most.

We should have an experiment where the super and normal chat just encourages him and nothing else and see how far he could actually gets in a game.

I didn't know this existed but now im pissed that it does. The man literally can't play a game unless it holds him by the balls and pulls him in the right direction.
