Unfortunately most of what you think is being recycled either goes to landfill or gets shipped off abroad to be disposed of. The reality of the Recycling business is shocking when you dig into it, like most things nowadays a thin veil hides some truly shocking practices

The Cancer Research bin angered me. They are given these items for free and then just dump them when they can't sell them. A simple solution would be to lower their prices, get a faster turnaround and nothing goes to landfill. The whole reason people donate is to avoid landfill and to help those in need/charities. I blame the greedy CEOs, etc 😡. Rant over.

I've seen some 2nd hand shops and some of the items are dearer than when they are new, sod the charities. Don't give to the BIG charities you are just making the BIG bosses richer. My sister died in 2014 and money was made on a charity night we had, we donated the money to the heart foundation, weeks later we got a letter from them asking (sorry can't find a better word) we could donate our wills' to them, not even a thank you.

I used to work next to the main cancer research labs/offices, the art work and expensive offices mad me sick mad, I would never give cancer research UK any money, give it to McMillan of smaller charities

clothes are a tough one as there are actually so many clothes in the world donated etc than anyone knows what to do with as they are so cheaply made and almost disposable these days given how people discard them. Ironically the best thing you can do with old clothes is to give them to a proper recycling plant as 99% of the clothes end up filling landfill (92 million tonnes per year and growing)

I was working as a volunteer in a charity shop, a woman brought in some kids toys as a donation, the manager took them and said thank you very much. the whole lot went in the bin out back. the customer hadn't even left the shop by this time . disgraceful

These pills are, in fact, labeled in Hebrew. They are being sold for 20-30 GBP. I couldn't pinpoint the exact bottles, but it seems like a UK manufacturer is shipping them to Israel, and for some unknown reason, they find it more cost-effective to dispose of them there. It's truly mind-boggling. I advise against using a large quantity of these pills unless you have a genuine deficiency that requires their use.

I found a skip full of clean heavy copper pipes big boy ones! & other bits over 1000 quid chucked away, so took it! Big score with the wage from my job that week made me 1650! Made more from the skip then the hole weeks work! Rubbish is treasure 💰

Google review and send an email....I've just done that after seeing the cancer research dumpster. I'm disgusted that they would 1) throw these items and 2) slash them before throwing them out. Disgusting. I will never donate to them again. I'd rather sell and donate the money direct.

100% agree with you on the charity shop situation. Some bin items as soon as they are donated, just lash it. I spend LOADS in charity shops and one the woman hates bric a brac as she calls it. So it gets binned as it’s donated. She doesn’t mind people taking it from the bins though

Got MIXED feelings about them throwing out brand new stuff, I find it disrespectful to all the good ppl out there struggling financially and these ppl are throwing brand new various items away 😳 Same time if they didn't throw things away many of us would miss out on brand new free stuff. I used to work in iceland next door to a poundland and the amount of stuff poundland throws is crazy. I found so many things in the bins all perfect condition after xmas the amount of decorations was crazy.

company's are not allowed to give stock away to the public, due to tax reasons and health and safety, and most company's have to pay to throw their stock away, then they claim it back through tax as a loss. Also there is a condition to this where they have to damage it so it cannot be sold on, and sometimes have to take photographic evidence that it has been destroyed.

I used to work in retail and the food that was thrown out at the end of a day was truly disgusting when there is people starving. But sadly as the world is now a suing society , you couldn't even give it away !!!! Id like to hope now tho things have moved on and its not going to waste anymore . Tho i suspect it probably is .

I used to be a volunteer in charity shops but honestly if some shops (some not all) didnt price so sky high more stock might actually get sold. Absouletey no excuse to purposley destroy a perfectly useable item. Honestly I like charity shops but from a sustibailty stand point somewhere like freecycle is much better as you can be assured someone is going to utizile the item.

Freecycle....need to be able to afford the internet to find I think. Lots of people using charity shops are unable to do so now due to the price of electricity and food.I have asked my local charity shop to lower prices and was politely told they have to cover their overheads and had procedures for pricing...the mind boggles. Exactly the reason I no longer donate any items to charity shops. The vast majority of them send any of the unsold items to landfill, known fora while as I’ve friends volunteering in a couple. Destroying them first is a new one to me. Instead I put a table up outside my home and people are free to take whatever they can make use of. Wow! Those vitamins and there’s me just recently become anaemic where I can no longer afford to buy them 😢 Awful waste. Well done on doing what you do 👏🏼
