Sounds like a perfect high-gain monster for the studio. You can basically work the knobs and buttons until you find a tone that needs little to no post-processing
Their special editions normally have an analog effects sweet including a built in tube screamer. This looks like a full sized fireball se with even more.
Bought my ENGL SE670 EL34 back in 2009 when Jeff Loomis and Chris Broderick used to play them, and my journey of searching for that dream tone ended right there! This Amp is so versatile and sounds so beautiful right out of the box that I can't imagine having anything else in my plethora of song creation, other than synths which is a totally different realm. Absolutely the best purchase I ever made for my music gear 😊😊😊
Love it. Every little button on it actually changed the sound to a degree you can hear and appreciate, unlike a ton of other amps. Also, can’t wait for them to release the super limited “Edition” Edition of the Special Edition Founders Edition 🫨
This amp is the GOAT. You can even play a full gig on just the crunch channel using the guitar's volume knob. Using chanel switching, midi and the plethora of switches sends you to another dimension. Highly recommended for any style of music
I remember when the guitarist in my brother's death metal band bought an Engl and it completely transformed what they were doing. They went for fizzy to having so much guts clarity and volume. Just overwhelmingly lush tone, whether chugging or tremelo-ing or even more muddy black metal chord sections. It just adapted to whatever the player wanted perfectly without compromise.
When I needed my first good amp, the Fireball's sound impressed me way more than the 5150s my friends kept talking about. Then I heard the Savage and had to have one - it completely blew me away. When shopping for one used, I lucked into a bargain Special Edition instead. It's just the perfect amp for me, and I'll never sell it. I can very much relate to and understand the faces Ola makes around the 5 min mark playing with the switches - pure riff chug satisfaction! After many years with my SE, I still get that feeling every time I turn it on.
ive been playing my engl since 13 years now - got it second hand, its around 20 years old now - NEVER let me down, and ive been playing the living shit out of it in live shows or practice. its the perfect amp for everything i need.
@@AD1978leo if you havent - check out "lichtlaerm audio" - the dude is producing quality pedals, build like a tank. the "gehenna" pedal is one of the greatest highgain monsters of all time!
Damn Ola this is one of the best tunes I’ve heard you write and perform for your demos! Definitely a killer tune! Also your guitar tone on this crushing! 🤘🤘
They are well rated, I think. They had a bad rap among sound engineers the early 2000s due to fizzy, boomy, oversaturated metalcore sounds. To me those early 2000s Engl still sound great, but they can be challenging to dial in. Nowadays their reputation is probably overtaking Peavey.
I played the SE 14 years ago, and the only reason I didn’t buy it was because it was just out of my budget at the time, it was easily one of the best sounding amps I’ve ever played. This is just that with extras, and I’m in for it.
The additional camera at the headstock of the guitar is an excellent addition to the angles! It's not in any of the other shots, but it's there in its own take, if I had to guess how you did it. A brilliant and captivating way to begin the video, I must say!
You should deactivate the (gain boost) knob between the Clean gain & Crunch gain knobs, to get a crunchy sound 😉 The new version of e670fe is missing two knobs, the (lo pow./ hi pow. & speaker A/B)! I'm a proud owner to have the old e670 S. E. I had & still have many amps in my collection but this one I call it (the unbeatable). So versatile and easy to get cool sounds out of it, not complicated as my Mark V 90w..I know they are different and do not attack me on this 😅 It has a decent noise gate & quite enough of gain... I always have the gain of the 3rd ch. on 11 O'clock & if I want to boost it for b*tching, I put the gain on 10 O'clock!! This amp is a beast!! 🔥
Engl has to be one of the greatest if not the greatest high gain amps ever. This one is totally to die for but unfortunately I'll be dead before I can afford one.
@@TheWolvesCurse I’m assuming that’s the case, Germany is very strict on importing and exporting products and want there cut of tax money so in the end we get the the hit from all of those taxes and surcharges, not a good way to do business. I realize RU-vidrs want to showcase these products but at a consumer perspective it’s not feasible. Expensive gear is cool but I’ll never buy it. Just being honest. That being said somebody else that has 4K for a head and wants to watch videos on this amp is always a great idea. I did that with my amp when I was looking for a new amp.
I remember the ENGL Special Edition well, it was my dream amp at the time, but way out of my budget range. I'm glad they brought it back, it's such a versatile and amazing sounding amp. I am playing the Fireball 100 myself, but the SE, the Uberschall and the Framus Cobra were always my "drewl all over" amps. This again sounds so killer and immediately takes me back to those times where we would go into a music store and take the playtest room hostage for about an hour with this thing.
The crunch channel is king on this amp. Always max out the gain with the gain boost, push the treble a bit and then an overdrive in front. Lead 1 is really great to, but the crunch just sounds bigger and more open in my opinion :)
Ola you know you can stand up for these videos if your back hurts. Look into an Ahead split seat spinal glide throne if you need to sit, for reasons. I have a herniated disk as well and it has helped. If it was portable at all I would take it with me everywhere. I can't even comment on the purpose of this video since that drool worthy sound says it all. Thanks for the demo and rock on. 🤘🤘
Sounds killer. And I'm very pleased to see you using an SM57 again. Makes it easier to understand the tone in comparison to other amps since the 57 tone is one most guitarists are familiar with.
Engl has been my go to for amps for a while. Just absolutely beautiful distorted tone. I mostly use a powerball but have been curious about a savage for years
It is so worth trying it! I own a savage and the feature I love the most is, that you have 2 gain controls on the crunch 1 and the lead channel. So you can blend different types of gain structures plus it has a lead boost on the lead channel, that also changes the gain structure slightly. That makes it incredible versatile for metal/rock tones
My (second hand) Powerball 2 has served me well for the last 5 years, and hopefully for atleast 10 more because I absolutely love it. I've yet to try an amp I like more and I've played a bucnh of amps including blockletter 5150, some rectifier and a Diezel. Never tried the Savage but you're making me curious. This amp (and the savage) is just out of my league unless I find it second hand lol. Great review Ola!
This is by far my most favourite “chug tone” in any high end amplifier! Prior to hearing this, it used to be the ENGL savage mk2, Bogner Uber ultra, the original Mesa 2c plus and the Diezel Herbert/VH4, just a few honourable mentions
😍 So over the top, I want! I still have my Engl E530 preamp + E850/100 power amp I purchased new years ago. More recently I purchased an E561 Artist Edition 100. I run these into a pair of E212VHB Pro cabs. Cheers!
Any amp that inspires someone to play is a winner, seeing you getting lost in enjoying the riffs on Lead Channel 1 you can tell it’s doing the right thing for you! Sounds great 🔥
More mids than we're used to with Engl. Sounds great. The tube driver sounds great, very clean and clear, for low overdrive, something in which I am invested lately.
You probably can do anything with it. I would use stacked dirt and distortion pedals with it and compare it to the clean channel. It seems like a smarter approach than going into the Poweramp alone.
The main thing that’s interesting to me about this, compared to the Powerball II, is the modern/vintage switch. Other ENGL amps tend to sound rather cold, giving you that polished super-defined metal sound at the expense of the warmer low mids. The Founders Edition has that same “coldness” in the modern mode, which is great for metal - but you can switch it back to vintage to do some more classic rock tones. That’s a level of versatility no other ENGL amp seems to have, as far as I know.
Ola - I've been watching your videos since you only did no-commentary amp demos and Superior Drummer tutorials with Kate Beckinsale's robot voice. Now, I see your guitars for sale in local markets. This video somehow reminds me of you cranking out Scarpoint riffs through a Framus Cobra without even showing your dopey pre-dad face. Super impressed by your success. Thank you.
Engl Fireball was my first proper Amp. Played a 15 year old Savage for 10 more years in my Band. Really reliable Amps. Now I prefer the sound of Friedman Amps, but Engl will always have a spot in my heart.
This amp seems like the perfect amp for a cover band. If you want to have an all tube amp that can give you the tone for any popular song from the past 7 decades, this amp can deliver. The tube driver channel can maybe give that Fender Twin, Vox AC type of tone. Will try to get my hands on one of these someday. A bit pricey but well worth it.
Shout out to OLA hey !! yah I had one of these special edition version 1 it was great, I am thinking to get one of these the updated circuits will be super badass, I am pretty happy to see this is back I've tried all sorts of stuff anything from Marshall 1975 jmp to Fractal Audio Axe Fx III mark 2 but I really liked this amp :) What do you think Ola how does the Engl E670 FE compare the original Engl E670 SE, I would love to hear the difference in a show down
On comparison, I don't need this... My Engl E530 preamp has "4" Channels, two channels: Clean and Lead; and Gain Hi/Lo button that gives you: 1) Clean, 2) Crunch, 3) Lead 1, 4) Lead 2. All foot switchable. Adding my E850/100 power amp, I have two stereo (Left, Right) channels, A and B: A & B each have their own Left and Right volumes, and their own Depth and Presence, so two stereo channels. Combining the options that's a total of 8 different "channels". My Engl E561 Artist Edition 100 is similar to the E530, Clean and Lead Channels with Gain Hi/Lo switch for 4 "channels". Cheers!
Thi is an insane amp that has everything in. I always thought the JP2C is the MOTHER of all Metal amps..BUT..this is a beast of its own with more bells and whistles and also..cheaper.....And those TONES man...
I'ts more or less the same as my E570 Preamp. Same lead 1 and 2 sounds, almost the same features, except reverb and depth boost. I run it through 840/50 power amp, ENGL 2x12 vertical, and it sounds pretty much the same. Great amp though!! Love it.
Ola does it again. Coming up with totally cool riffage that surely is the beginning of what could and should be another great metal song. Love that shit. Sure, you might need to sell your cars and start riding a scooter to buy the amp, but truly a wonderful crunchy amp from ENGL that also kicks ass. :)
the combination of the amp and the cab is what makes it. i doub't it would be as good with a lesser cab. Ola in terms of oversized cabs, would do a comparison video between the engl and the mesa oversized ones? and maybe throw in a marshall tall cab too?
I don't think I've ever liked one of your tones so quickly as the one on the intro song. Please create an IR of that tone, as well as the classic tone, and I will buy them.
I was just able to give it a short try at guitar summit, this thing is a f**king beast! Way too many knobsis for me, but got immediate great tone out of each channel.
It's absolutely amazing and you're absolutely paying for it. Would have to say if I were gigging or earning more income from music it would definitely be worth the investment.
I own ENGL E670 from 2003 with original orange lights inside and rack E570. They sound very good, but E670 has more bottom end. I have some videos on my channel with both E670 and E570 (recorded in stereo rig). However, prefer E570, because it has possibility of stereo setup.
All amps and cabs are too f'ing much anymore, tbh, that's why i got a Fractal FM9 and a good wedge monitor. I'd have to mortgage my house to afford the amount of tones i can get from that setup with real amps, cabs and pedals
Wow, so this is the ultimate Engl amp. I mean even my old Invader100 is nearly too much when it comes to features so i prefer using the Fireball25 which also has new improved sound compared to older Engl-models. But i still want this Special Edition for my Engl-collection sadly it's too expensive to just buy one right now.
Ola, how much time do you spend changing strings? or do you have someone to do it for you? I feel like you always have that 'new string' tone in most of your videos. my strings die from my sweaty hands so fast :(
Hey Ola... can you do a comparison vid with the Revv 120 Generator MK III and this new Engl beast... and what is your opinion on the challenge ENGL vs. REVV???
This is “the one” I thought I would buy the EVH3, but there is some weird shit that goes on when you’re on the red channel… the blue ch gain (not engaged) actually affects the red channel when red channel is engaged. Something to do with the way they daisychained the channels.
