The Diner Scene: "Oh no! Not again!!" That was once again John Hurt, the same actor who played in "Alien" and was the xenomorph's first victim. He was a great actor. May he rest in peace.
@joeb918
@joeb918 Год назад
A minor thing I have to say regarding past tense… John Hurt is a great actor… his death doesn’t stop his work from being great, it remains so, despite his death. Just like a piece of art is still a great piece of art after the artist death, so too can an actors talents remain to be facts after their deaths.
@Stogie2112
@Stogie2112 Год назад
@@joeb918 .... I don't think you fully understand the meaning of "past tense". John Hurt is dead. He died in 2017. He is no longer alive. He WAS a great actor. He is not immortal. His performances were great. Everyone knows that a great performance doesn't lose any greatness over time. It doesn't change at all. His great performances have been preserved digitally and on film.
@joeb918
@joeb918 Год назад
@@Stogie2112 I understand it completely, I just don’t think it applies to actors or artists… or maybe it’s that I don’t think it should. Mostly probably because their work often survives them, and they remain great, it’s stating a fact that remains true.

If you had seen the Kevin Costner Robin Hood film, you would have definitely recognized Men in Tights as a parody film. Many of the scenes were direct recreations. The Costner film was the reason that the story started in the Mid-East, rather than England. By they way, the guy at the diner said "Not again!", when the little alien burst out of his chest. There was a reason for that. Good reaction. You caught most of the stuff - even the Trek and Planet of the Apes references. Good job.

It is told that when George Lucas was approached by Brooks to see if he would be ok with them doing this parody, he allegedly agreed as long as they "sold no merchandise" for the movie. So of course what does Mel Brooks do....he lives up to the agreement and sells no merchandise, but he fills the movie with it. LOL

Lucas approved the making of this movie. Except for one thing: the contract prevented Mel Brooks from profiting from merchandising on the film. Hence the "merchandising" joke that Mel Brooks included in the movie as his revenge for that! LOL! My favorite thing about Mel Brooks is how he finds way to get around the censors by changing the definition of words. He spent the entire beginning of the movie in Young Frankenstein using German accents in order to use "Schwanstucker", and most of Spaceballs equating Helmet = Head to get away with "I bet she gives great helmet"! Absolute gangster! LMAO!

I recommend two b/w screwball commedies like Spaceballs. Both star Cary Grant. Bringing Up Baby is a movie about a man who just found a leopard in the museum he is working in. The baby is the leopard. The second one is Arsenic & Old Lace. Grant plays the nephew of two ladies who take in travelers for the night. Also living there is an uncle who runs up the stairs like Teddy Roosevelt yelling "Charge". Grant arrives with his fiance to introduce her and soon finds something strange in the basement.

I don't believe that most people would have been aware of the Stormtrooper hitting his head in Star Wars when Spaceballs came out. I bought the first retail VHS of the film that year, and remember it well. It was 4:3 so it wasn't even in frame. Also, the sound effect of the impact was added later, after the 'Widescreen' edition (4:3 letterbox) revealed the incident.

Lucas was inspired by Flash Gordon, but the film crawl style was from another of his inspirations, Buck Rogers… another film that inspired Lucas was Forbidden Planet, which btw is a great movie and would be awesome if you’d react to it. That film is also inspired from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Forbidden Planet not only inspired Lucas, but also Gene Roddenberry of Star Trek fame. Speaking of Star Trek, the actor who plays the guy “combing the desert” who hasn’t “found shit” is Tim Russ who went on to do a lot of sci fi, including Star Trek Voyager where he plays Tuvock.

14:05 Well done. A lot of people miss the "Wizard of Oz" Easter egg even thought we have Dorothy (Vespa), the Tin Man (Dot), the Cowardly Lion (Barf), and the Scarecrow (Lone Starr). I always wished they had added one of the 'Dinks' or something to represent Toto. That would have been epic 🤩. (Knowing Mel Brooks' mind, he probably considered it and didn't like any of the ideas that came up) Mel Brooks is highly likely the greatest comedy writer/producer/director/actor of all time. However, --- (****NOTE: Very insignificant spoiler ahead****) --- a heads up on "Silent Movie". It's a typically funny Mel Brooks movie it is exactly what it says; a silent movie. Some people panned it because they weren't expecting it and silent films are an acquired taste.

Congrats my friend, you are officially one of us!❤️ Now, there are a lot of 80’s references put into the movie (the Double Mint girls) as was in Men in Tights (Air Jordans- when Achoo had to pump his shoes) …. And many more! ….. Including referencing his own movies “It’s good to be the King!” THATS what makes Mel Brooks films SO Fan-FrEaKiNg-Tastic! There are a lot of Easter Eggs in his films, allowing you to watch them over and over, making them timeless! Thank you for watching this movie and for watching all of the great films of my generations past! They truly ARE the best and the foundation of the ones that came after. Not sure if you have watched Fawlty Towers yet, but I do know you have watched Life of Brian and you are a fan. So, my next recommendation is Fawlty Towers. Mel included a movie's worth of merchandise jokes instead because of this, which Mel found to be the funniest joke in the movie.
