That book was written and published almost 10 years ago and after our 10 year drought, it is no longer as relevant, as it once was. Yea, back then the smelt was an issue, BUT it was NEVER as simple as turning a friggin faucet OFF & ON. It was a small portion of a much bigger problem. BIG AG was allowed to pump water all the way down through the ground water table, down to the aquifers to the extent that is some places the ground is literally sinking. Then there are the almond and pistachio farms that grew their annual water use by 523 billion gallons of water compared to 2017 - enough to supply 87% of California’s population. In California, 80% of our water goes toward agriculture and with 20% of that going to tree nuts. Around two-thirds of these nuts are exported overseas, leaving massive profits for corporate titans, but less water in California. Talk about sheep, you seem to be the one who has their head buried. I'd say we would be much better off with a different crop choice, rather than making corporations rich (while none of that benefits the state). Then there is the water that was stolen by Nestle (now Blue Triton).YOU are the one that needs to "educate" yourself!!

It gets to be a big problem when CA is in a drought condition. Much of their water is distributed through canals and pipelines from other states. The state can ration the water and they do exactly that when in a drought. Snow melt in Northern California is a good source, but the rest of California is either bordered by desert type territory or the ocean (with un useable salt water).

We definitely need more water storage, but his idea of getting water to the Los Angeles area from Northern California and Canada is absurd. Getting water from the Owens Valley was a monumental task even with the advantage of the elevation from the source dropping as it goes south so that much of the distance it flows by gravity. Moving the water south through the San Joaquin valley then up over the mountains is an entirely different game than the Owens project. Water coming from Canada sounds preposterous.

How exactly is the water going to be applied to the vast areas of forests and the forests kept constantly moist? That's impossible as is bringing water from Canada and Northern California to the Los Angeles area. Gravity and topography will not allow that. They could use more of the fresh water for use in the Central Valley, but the rest is wishful thinking. We need more water storage to take advantage of the wet years.

As for using the water to protect from forest fires, there are 33 million acres of forest in California. That's 33% of the state. How do you suppose we will distribute the water to those areas, and how much water would that require? The idea is insane.

That is a problem that takes time to solve, but it is not the problem. The problem is making California allow the diversion of the water. The Carlsbad desalt plant took 10 years to get approved. Dozens of lawsuits from enviro groups delayed it. It finally got finished but that will be the last one. CA has made electricity too expensive to make desalt plants viable.
