Yeah, the F & M swap would be great, since both QBL Express lines are on 53rd Street while the M can be occupied on 63rd. Just for passengers that go downtown, Brooklyn etc on the E & F can choose if they want to go via 6th Av or 8th Av for their wish of choice. The M however sadly is a part time service and runs as a shuttle in late nights. To compliment 63rd Street for late nights in a scenario if the swap does happen, the F can run via 63rd for the M while the E stays on 53rd Street. If the M does get delayed during weekday service, the line can short turn at 57th Street, and 96th Street - 2nd Av, etc. The M may have 8-cars since it's "reduced" from 10 back from when the V was running a 10 car length trains (8-car 75 footers for R46s) until budget cuts occuring in 2009, which can cause a bit of more crowding for the current M service along 63rd Street. This could lead to some passengers being left out and waiting for the next M train along the line. Hope this explanation also helps as well. But great video!

The QBL express pre 2001 proved it's reliability when reinstated for the time of the 63rd Street rebuild, I notice that E and F trains are running faster throughout the entire corridor without being delayed because the switch operator needs to switch the track for each route

Honestly speaking, I prefer the current system pattern right now being the travel time on both the E and F trains have gotten much faster. I think the M train should run through the 63rd St Line with the F running on the 63rd St Line on Nights and weekends. Running the M through the 63rd St Line will definitely eliminate the deinterlining of express service in Queens. Keep the current service the same after April 1st

This Deinterlining plan would actually add more one seat ride options and not to mention that would have allowed the M to run during the Days on Weekends on QBL to support the R. Hopefully the MTA considers the F and M tunnels to be swapped permanently. Late Nights: F Trains serves 63rd. Days: M Trains serves 63rd St.

If they swap the F n M then the F would have to use 63rd st overnight or you can run Midnight R service to Continental via 63rd. But I keep saying Jamaica Yard has to be expanded. The F can serve 63rd st on Midnights n Weekends but you're gonna have to make Continental a 24 hour terminal with the G or R. The M is going to stay as a Met to Essex shuttle.

We desperately need a rush hour exp on the west end. Too many stops from 36 street to Coney Island. There’s the ridership for at least 4 trains each way a day. We have middle track infrastructure and it can do 9th Ave then 62nd Street then bay pkwy.
@VinceHere98
@VinceHere98 5 месяцев назад
We should do more than just swapping the F and M. We should also make more adjustments to QBL as well. The R should be extended to Jamaica-179th Street at all times, except for weekends and late nights, where it will replace the N/W to Astoria-Ditmars Boulevard, and the G will take over using full 10-car sets. However the G will run to Jamaica Center with the E, while the M will cover for the R to 179th.

Gotta have Queenslink follow the old LIRR route and reroute all 6th ave locals out of the QBL to make way for this to work best port Washington is too infrequent and it’s unacceptable for a rail service that’s mostly in queens to have such poor frequency

I've had to live with this swap now for some time now. I have to transfer to the 4 to get to where I need to go. Currently, I swap from an express to the R at queens plaza and sometimes its fine, sometimes its actual hell waiting 10+ minutes. It makes me wish I could take the out of system 63rd st transfer, even though that is hellish in its own right. For people who are not me (so the average worker), I understand why this can be good, and I think the balance between riders on the F and E is better than before. However I have a simple question: Why have they stopped running E trains from/to Jamaica 179th street during rush hours? I always thought it was capacity issues with 53rd street or queens plaza.

@TechJolt3d
@TechJolt3d 5 месяцев назад
@@the-renegade Yes but why did they have to? Does this also mean an F&M swap would leave the E at reduced service forever?
@the-renegade
@the-renegade 5 месяцев назад
@@TechJolt3d No, not really. The 63RD Street track replacement work put into effect this change where E and F services were running less frequently during AM/PM rush hours while simultaneously, R service was increased. This was in part of a operational strategy the MTA put forward to facilitate commuters on the IND Queens Boulevard Line-mainly local service. If this was a regular service change, E to Jamaica-179TH Street would be unaffected.

The N train runs via Lower Manhattan at night, but there aren't people angry about it. The B and C run CPW locally, but the A serves the station at night. Different routes serving different stations are not limited to this proposal. Besides, the F and M run local on 6th Avenue and both run on Queens Boulevard, with the F running QBL local at night. Is it worth not having one inconsistency during the night or weekends for all delays during the day, the time when everyone is using the subway?

@@darkgalaxyi_o_l_o_i7831 That's different, a RU-vidr pointed this out, the N service isn't losing service between destinations, the Lower Manhattan section is added-thus making the commute marginally longer. The F/M swap is a flip-flop, different services would be operating on different times of the day, that's not consistent for average commuters.

a good thing to note is that we could also have the N run via 63rd st to current R train terminus and have the R train go to astoria (yeah no yard sad news but im sure we could arrange some R trains going via the N line prob like exp to coney island and some N trains going via the R line to supplement the issue) this sounds like a great thing imo as now the R train is technically completely deinterlined

Not a bad idea but the R won’t have a yard. The best way to do that is by routing the R on West End Using this plan we can allow the N to run on QBL B: Inwood 207th St to Coney Island (Sea Beach) D: Norwood 205th St to Bay Ridge 95th St N: Forest Hills to Brighton Beach Q: 96th St to Coney Island (Brighton) R: Astoria Ditmars Blvd to Coney Island (West End) The Astoria to Coney Island option can work with the N as long as we install switches south of 36th St for the R to use, and the D can run via Sea Beach to Coney Island which results in the D and N swapping lines. But I prefer the R to take Astoria.

@@TSgotstolengoddamm true but we would also need trains to stop at 45th St and 53rd St which would be served by the D under this plan after 36th St. Plus the B and D would be the only trains timed under this plan I have considers having only the Broadway lines serve 4th Ave having whatever trains take whatever terminal, as with that plan it won’t matter where the N, Q or R lines would go.

Unfortunately, I doubt that the F and M swap will happen, no matter how many times we complain or how many petitions we sign. The people on Roosevelt Island would rather have (F) service than (M) service. The same thing applies to those at Lex-63rd and, by extension, those coming from the 2nd Avenue Line. That small group of people outweighs the high demand on QBL for 100% express service to/from the 53rd Street tunnel. For the sake of QBL's reliability, I hope that this comment is proven to be wrong. The F belongs on 53rd Street alongside the E.

It is not even a local train anymore. It is just a 6th Ave train because very few of them are going in the Queens direction during morning rush hour. And the wait is an extra 83 seconds, at the worst case scenario. I say worst case scenario because the F train is highly variable, with bunched trains thanks to merging conflicts. The M on the other hand, isn't, so Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island commuters might actually save time.

Seeing your previous video, and going back to my comment on restoring the old EFGR on the QBL, I had an idea: why not split the F into two branches a la the Northern Line in London? One branch can go via 53 St, and the other via 63 St. Then they reunite at Rockerfeller Center. Much like the Northern Line splits between the Bank and Charing Cross branches at Camden Town and reunite at Kennington. Also, platform screen doors are hideous, and ruin the aesthetics of stations. The Paris Metro is one example.
