It doesn't always have to be some glorious multi-day adventure. Sometimes, a quick trip is the perfect recipe for feeding the soul. www.amazon.com/shop/ggg4runner GripStic Bag Sealers: amzn.to/3JU8eGD

A less glamorous, but much more normal trip that most of us can relate to. A small adventure is still an adventure. Great message to wrap it up.

i am glad the algorithm from RU-vid brought me to your channel. I am just now looking at gear to get started in my overlanding adventure. Your how to/advice videos have been exactly what I been looking for. Thank you! As for your message at the end of this video, you've already earned a new subscriber, but now a new brother. God bless.

About a month ago I went camping at a new to me location and I thought I had the whole canyon to myself. Then I saw sign for shooters to pickup their shell casings. I paid for a camp site a few miles away. If the finger didn't heal, that would've made a great Yakuza story!

Good to see you back in the saddle (somewhat) after the injury. Hope it continues to heal up. That campsite looks awesome! East Bay 4Runner guy here-You can go further north along the coast to Mendocino too. Van Damme (developed campsite) is a great spot.

Well Roger! It was quite a surprise to see you visiting our home town of Calistoga!! My wife was born there as was her mom (now 92 and still living in her house!) while grandma was born in Yountville! Our old stomping grounds for sure! Spent some years down in Foster City so Bay Area somewhat familiar! Overlanding doesn’t have to be dirt roads only…the trip, the relaxation, getting away…what it’s all about! Enjoying your trips and your outlook!👍

Roger, growing up there in Calistoga in the 60’s and 70’s we would say it’s pretty much ruined! It still is a cute little town, but the outside world discovered it in the 80’s and 90’s! When we lived there, there lots of walnut and prune orchards and mostly a farming community! With the hot springs, vineyards and a few wineries it was a quiet little town and a great place to grow up! Rode our bikes everywhere and everyone knew each other! But you “Bay Area people” (😲) found it and it is now a tourist town known throughout the world and not the Calistoga we remember or grew up in!!! I would like to hold you responsible…(LOL!) but you’re 30 years too late!! So since I can’t blame you, I will continue to watch and enjoy your travels and blogs! 👍😎

I'm sorry to hear that 😕 The bay area was a nicer place overall back in the 80s/90s when I was growing up imho, but yes, bay area people have collectively ruined many things. But, I suppose that's the price of "progress" and also that I need to learn to just appreciate things in the moment instead of always burdening myself with hindsight.
@bobknepper770
@bobknepper770 10 месяцев назад
@@ggg4runner that is true…the Bay Area was such a nice place to visit in the 70’ and 80’s….not sure about the 90’s!! Calistoga had a population of about 1500-1800 back when we lived there…now about 5,000? Big changes, but like you said…that’s “progress”! Foster City was a nice “bedroom” community back then as well…not so much last time we visited. Same with San Jose…not any longer! But like you said, living in the past doesn’t do any good! Life is about now and tomorrow….opportunities! I enjoy your “love affair” with your Toy! Have had several 4-Runners (first one was an ‘85!) and small pickups before the had Tacomas…also back in the 80’s and early 90’s--all great vehicles and I still miss my ‘68 LC! Three on the tree and that old iron 6 cyl….drove it from Calistoga to Phoenix and from Phoenix to Fresno back in 1974! 55 mph all the way!!! I’ve rambled on long enough! Hope you had a great week end!

My son smashed the end of his middle finger in a door when he was 4. I wish they would have done that for him. It was the middle finger on his left hand, non dominant hand.
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner Год назад
Yeah, I got lucky with which doctor was working the day I went to the ER. The method he used (laterally-based thenar flap fingertip reconstruction) was documented as early as 1926 but my doctor stated that the vast majority of ER doctors don't even know the procedure. Apparently, also according to my doctor, the middle finger is the most often injured finger since it's the longest one. Yes, weird trivia I know. Thank you for watching!

Nice Video. How do you like those aftermarket seats in your 4Runner? I have a Tacoma and would consider getting new seats if I found the right ones. Thanks.
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner 9 месяцев назад
I like them overall, more comfortable to me than stock. But, PRPs require some work to install in a Toyota, it doesn't just bolt in. Keep in mind PRPs are suspension seats so make sure that's what you want. If I had the money I probably would've gone Scheel-mann (not a suspension seat but very ergonomic).

I have an 85 4Runner I got when I was 15. It broke down and is finally getting In the shop to get fixed (I’m 18 now). Do you think this could be a good overland rig.
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner Год назад
If I'm not mistaken, and I am certainly no 1st gen 4Runner expert, 1985 was the final year for the solid front axle AND you have the 22R-E engine. You sir have kind of a crown jewel of 1st gen 4Runners so congrats! And yes, that would make a fine foundation for an overland vehicle, heck, I'd be wanting to go full-on pop-up camper build on one of those. Do I sound a tad jealous? Cuz I am. I wish you many rad adventures and happy trails brother! Thanks for watching!

Can you tell us about your seats? I am really curious...hate the stock ones.
@ggg4runner
@ggg4runner Год назад
They're just PRP Enduro Elite seats (prpseats.com). It seems like PRP has updated the Enduro line since I bought mine over a year ago and it looks like the Enduro Daily is the most similar to mine. I ordered mine with the seat heaters option which is a nice touch. They also have options for inflatable lumbar support but the best part about PRP is that you can have them made with whatever fabrics/colors they stock. So I chose colors that more or less match my Moon Mist (gray) interior and I opted to go with tweed so that it doesn't burn you sitting in the sun. They are not fun to mount if you want it to slide still. I ordered a slider bracket specifically for 3rd Gen 4Rs from wedgebrackets.com and then used the PRP universal angle brackets and forced them to work together. The stock manual seats are kind of seat+bracket together so unless you want to crazy modify the stock seat 'bracket" you have to go aftermarket or custom. The issue with all of this is you end up with a very tall seat compared to stock. It's basically like setting the stock seat to maximum height. I'm only 5'10" and I only have about 2 inches of headroom now from the moon roof. But even with those couple of negatives, they are much more comfy (subjectively of course) and since PRPs are suspension seats they do great on trails and with CA Bay Area potholes lol. My lower back never gets sore with these seat and it used to get sore after just a 2 hour drive with the stock seats. Hope that helps.
