I love that last shot of the camera pulling away from Gene, to show that he's really alone once everyone he knew (including Sam and Alex) have moved on.
Whole thing is beautiful. The time travel, the writing, the Bowie, the Hunt, the Tyler, Annie (oooh the cute Annie) the good against evil. It's beauty on a platter!
It was fucked back then too, there was a cold war and race wars and shit. You just grew up with one type of normal and now there's a different one, is it better? Eh. But it is better than 1981...
I think it's just a instrumental of Life on Mars by Bowie, but i'm afraid i've been through two computers and twice as many hard drives since i made this, so i've lost what particular version it is i'm afraid :(
SPOILERS That’s not the point of Gene’s character. Gene is from the 1950s, so his views are obviously very dated, but this is presented as a flaw. Gene is still a kid at heart, because he died as a kid, angry and alone in the 50s. The problem for him, is that he stays this way, for however long he’s going to remain in that world, as he’s only there to help the other dead police officers. He has to help them move on, but he can’t move on himself. Gene is more than a politically conservative man going against the grain of Alex’s modern views, he’s a broken man who’s only purpose is to help his police officers be better people.
@Jay Jimenez Well to an extent, there is. When I say “the point”, I’m talking about what the creators and writers wanted you to observe and infer when they made the show. Now of course you can interpret it how you want, in my original comment I am interpreting parts of the show to determine what Gene’s character is, but so many fans think that Gene was written for us to go “Gene racist lol”, when he is there to be a bad reflection of police and society at the time. I could say “I love how the characters in To Kill a Mockingbird are racist, it’s funny”, I’m still appreciating what I like about them, but that’s not why they were written into the story.
@@jemstar63 To an extent there nothing. O.P said he appreciates his character. You're essentially saying he's participating in wrong think because you think he shouldn't and use what you think the writers meant to do with the character to give validity to your opinion.
@@jay1jayf I don’t not want him to appreciate his character, I appreciate his character too, however for different reason OP does. I’m glad we all like the same show, but I don’t want the deeper meaning of the characters to be overlooked. Also I think what the writers intentions were, is actually very important if you want to see the meaning behind something, why would the creators ideas not be important? Also it’s not just things that I personally think, but things I’ve seen them write into the show, for example Keats saying that the way Gene died is the reason for the way he is, which is a claim I made in the first comment. And a little dramatic with the 1984 comparisons lol, we’re just discussing TV and I like having civilised discussions, we’re not arguing.
