Please!! Please!!! Save this truck! Swap frames, do something. I know it would be a huge huge undertaking, but what a piece of history. Such a rare old ride. Please save it!!
As an A model collector, I can honestly say I would die inside if you part that out to save the bunk. Use the whole thing, restore it, back half it and put Pete low air behind it, frame swap…. Anything, just don’t break the cab/hood/bunk up.
You need to get the build sheet for it. If that is the sleeper, it was not to be sold on any American A model. It was strictly for the Australian market. Last I heard at the ATHS show, Kenworth was looking for that truck or one like it with an original 36" Aero1 years ago. You got a gem my friend. Restore it ASAP!!!
As a few have mentioned, they were pretty much the standard bunks on our Australian W models and SAR model throughout the late 70’s and 80’s. Then the T900 /T600/T650/C500 had them in the 90’s until the aero 2 was released mid 90’s.
Kenworth released the 60" flat top sleeper in 1974 and the 60" aero 1 sleeper was released on the Bicentennial edition W900 in 1976 and was continued due to popular demand. My guess is this truck was originally a 36" flat top that later had an aero 1 roof cap cut down and added to the sleeper. That suspension is Kenworth's 4-bag air ride suspension that was used prior to the 8-bag suspension.
@@flintcreektransport this I can't wait for....just picked my load up in Cincinnati and head to Detroit...don't have to be there till Monday...gonna check in at a motel and see if I subbed you or not....I'm gonna flip if this truck is from the south...I got albums of pictures of semis I photographed as we as locomotives....
your on this KJ ,,, The demand for more roomer sleeper was high but do to government size & length was limited so they offered company's a low cost alterative to a flat top sleeper,,, i can tell you been in trucking a long time,, you come into trucking when men where made of steel & trucks where made of wood,,,,,,,,,,,,
Hi guys . Thought I would let you know that the 36 inch airo 1 sleeper was fitted to alot of Kenworth models over here in Australia . The w900 and SAR of the 70s and early 80s . They were that well liked that in the last few years KW have done a legend series of those old trucks , with the same stile of bunk on them .
I’m a long time lover of the old school KWs. You have a gem, a one of a kind. Please don’t split that truck up. Save it and rebuild it! I have Autocar trucks myself and I thought about doing the same thing to my trucks but I didn’t. But I’ll tell y’all one thing, it’s badass when you can tell someone that you rebuilt a truck like that to the original condition like it was off the assembly line. It’s a sexy truck now being that old school style. You’ll get a lot more people wanting to see it that way. Y’all need to build that truck as is and keep it like original. Doing that would be giving respect to that old truck and giving it a new life. Keep together, don’t piece it out. That’s just my opinion and y’all have fun doing what you want. Take care now!

I’ve been driving big trucks since august 1972. I’ma driver Instructor at a truck driving academy now, I drive sometimes. I’ve seen one or two 36” aerodyne sleeps back in the day, but not since the early eighties. We called them coffin sleepers due to the size. Not much room to turn over in there. I wish you would take the time to save the round eyed beauty. They just aren’t many left on the road, and as an old driver still driving I would consider it a great favor if you would at least consider saving her. She’s worth it, and I believe you are as well. Put her back on the road with her own sleeper. Please, don’t change the old girl by stripping her sleeper off and let her die. SAVE THAT OLD GIRL! Make her ride the pavement again. Only YOU can do it now… its all up to you…
It’s an aftermarket roof cap on a 36” bunk. I believe the guy that made them in the 70’s was out of Pennsylvania. He actually received a cease and desist letter from paccar after only a year or two of making them.
Dude you gotta save the whole truck!! Maybe different frame but that would keep the bunk so cool if it stayed with the original truck. Expensive I know but you'd be the only guy to ever have one.
As a 40 yr diesel & heavy equipment mechanic working in a major Canadian 🇨🇦 steel mill soon as I heard you “brought the service truck” it brought back many memories of cold nights up here in frozen north climbing up and under rigs,100 ton autocar floats,300 ton steel haulers & hot ingot transporters, Kenilworth dempsters , cab over packers etc etc etc.. I even worked in our local locomotive shop rebuilding train diesels... I subscribed & liked cheers from HudsonBay area 🇨🇦
Thank u for the video I'm an old truck driver that absolutely loves old trucks they got class please consider saving this old girl she deserves a second chance once again thank you for the video ✌️
Great find! Before parting it out, definitely see if kenworth has a build sheet for that truck and trace it back to the original dealer. That would nice to have a restored A model in your fleet!!
Justin if that was mine I would put that 900 on a newer frame and work off that that take the sleeper off they have been together 48 years would be a great build great video as always stay safe Justin
makes zero sense to take only the bunk, then look for a flat glass w900 to put it on when you already have it with the bunk. Just wasteful, back half it and throw that engine you have laying around in it with an eaton 18 done.
You need to junk all of those red engines, when those 3000 power fuel lines pop off and kill some one you would of done something then , lol thanks BigAl California
There’s about a 99% chance it didn’t come that way from factory. A lot of companies did aftermarket roof caps. I think you should swap the whole thing on a newer w900 frame.
The story I heard is that a standard Aero 1 cap was cut down and a mold was made. And the person that did it made some of these caps for a 36” bunk until Kenworth told him to stop selling them.
@@bradj7900 saw a thing on this recently, kenworth took his mold and he was to be paid if they used it. they then used it in austrailia and he didnt get paid because it was outside the US
@@jackflynn1903 I don’t have a use for them. There’s a you tube channel in Canada, Twin Sticks, rebuilt a W900A into a Smokey and the Bandit truck. He was searching high and low for some aluminum split rims. He found a set. But he might need a spare rim or two
If you ever need a tree man somebody to clean up a mess trash detail or sandin or scraping cleaning up a mess. Get at me I can clean up any mess and I love cleaning up old trucks and making them look pretty. God bless you 🙏
Hi Do you need some great lighting for your car to help you better driving, off-road? We're the pro auto lighting manufacturer for nearly 20 year and we're looking for sponsorship!
TwinStickGarage here on RU-vid might be interested in some things if you end up parting it out He’s just about finished building an awesome Smoky and the Bandit tribute truck. Might be needing some spare parts?
I also think if you were to restore it, I would completely do a modern twist on it. New motor, new electronics and suspension, but the old look on the outside. Good find sir.
Justin you need to save the whole thing or atleast the hood, cab and sleeper and put it all on a newer chassis! Other wise the sleeper isn't going to even look right on a newer cab and it'll look like a Joe Mcgee put it together. It'll be like a Peterbilt with a Kenworth sleeper on it. Or a Kenworth with a Peterbilt sleeper. It just won't match or look right.
I just subscribed to your channel, how much for the white 750 twin boom wrecker ??? Thanks ,,, BigAl California praise Jesus Christ grace grace grace amen 🙏
In Arkansas from the mid-70's into the late 80s there were 6-8 of those passing through Little Rock on I-40 & I-30, I traveled a multi-state area for 17 years in Medical X-Ray service, used to see them regularly in my 2-million +miles now.
go find a nice marmon tractor to put that bunk on or better still come up to canada and find a hayes for that bunk you need to come up to ontario and in eastern ontario is a place called athensthere is the george tackaberry antique truck collection every thing restored no rusty junk here they have a web site and stuff on you tube call and get a bunch of your gear jamming buddies together and make a trip out of it noth of the thousand islands in very eastern new york call ahead if you do it to make shure they are open to look lots of iron there including a big horn dodge tractor
Holy cow... now that's a project! I'm partial to A models and I only ever slept in 60 inch bunks back in those days but I'd utilize the cab, hood and suspension with a full restoration for a 1974 W900A with a rare bunk!
Don't chop that KW up!!!!! That's like finding a big diamond and then cutting it in half now it's worth half the money I think you need to leave it original as much as you can
You should inquire with wheels of time magazine, they have a collection of historical truck stuff in their library, and might be able to research it for you.
Miss Justin, when you and the family were over sea 🌊 on that island 🏝 did Justin drink any of the Water 💦 🌊🌊 while on the beach 🏖 ??? In line with the Peterbilt 379 (from PACCAR sister division Peterbilt), the W900 gained a following among owner-operator drivers. What I find impressive is the way that wrecker was fired up... what I find is the CORRECT way, is apparently not that common... Start with minimum fuel, and let it settle down and warm up on its own
Are you sure that is a factory sleeper. there was a company called Doonan Manufacturing from great Bend Kansas. that made sleeper topd that looked just like the Kenworth areodyne top. They were put on most every brand of truck. They even have a Fagebook page. You should at least check it out.
I remember seeing a 36” aero K-100 at the Ferrari dealer near Glens Falls, NY 25 years ago, hooked to the Ferrari race team trailer ( looked like a big red moving van )
I pulled Swinging Beef for National Carriers in the 1970's in a Red Demon mate to that Rig. It was a 1973 two sticker and I ran Coast to Coast in that Truck. Both M. Bruenger Inc, Wichita Kansas and National Carriers , of Liberal , Kansas. I would restore it and Run it. I would pull Live Stock I would flush the engine, Run the Lifters and all New Filters and check the Engine and Drain all the Oils1
Is that late 60's early 70's Chevy c50 stake bed truck for sale? I have wanted to build one for a while now. I have a burned 2006 gmc c6500 with a lbz duramax and a vulcan aluminum roll back bed that I bought at auction for that exact purpose. It would make a great shop truck for me.
The Suspension is an older air ride, IF You have an older Truck with a Walking Beam suspension They are desired by Independant Owners for Mountain dirt roads for all wheel traction verses an air ride where you get the driving wheel up and your stuck...Its not fun with a D5 or 6 Dozer on your bobtail trailer..... So you can sell them , just an FYI for ya.
New here and its nice to see just people working together for a change in this world gone MAD! That single bunk aero was mostly an overseas addition but could be added here as an aftermarket add on. Most of us (me from 1977 till recent, dad since my birth, two younger brothers, grandpa, uncle and two cousins, a 120 year old trucker family affair) drivers didn't really pay them much mind actually. We were all into the "big bedroom" flat top large cars of the day. A thing of young and cocky youth gold coast bound lol. The first double bunk aero was mostly looked at as a owner op or company team ride and weren't actually overall that numerous due to weight and length laws of the day. Rigs like those were normally invested in for specific needed reasons as I recall talking to drivers doing the investing. Nice find and looking at it now, it will be a special piece out there amongst the same ole same ole. Be safe drivers...back out.
You need to restore it to original , it seems too rare to part out , though its yours to do with as you wish but would be nice to see it back on the road .
This sleeper was at trucker built it since Kenworth didn't offer it.Kenworth went after him .the out come Kenworth bought him out.wasnt available in U.S or Canada. Then found out it was available in Australia the kickedr had written contract in U.Sis Kenworth
No your in need of putting that truck back together, don’t be stupid and scrap anything on that KW , The Who,e truck is good thanks BigAl California praise Jesus Christ grace grace grace amen
There's a junk yard with like 50 of them bunks in pueblo Colorado just the bunks they look better than this one .. hw 50 e and 27th lane. In back of target overflow lot
I know that truck you just shows has got a little bit of an issue and I think you should have blown black smoke and a bit of a power issue check that turbo when they go they blow black smoke and you do lose power you have some good old truck they are my friend so thank you for showing them keep up the good work Ray from Australia Down Under❤😊
I don't understand why find a different truck for the sleeper? Just restore the hole truck but whatever ruin the gem at least it's not my truck to ruin.
She looks like she only needs a few bulbs and maybe a tire or two, lol. I think that kind of sleeper was more common than you remember. There was a truck with similar sleeper used for pulling an 5th wheel RV, if I can find the video I will put the link back here. I doubt you will have any problems selling off the rest of the truck. Stay safe and healthy.
hey justin been following since the start lol i just wanna say great work and thanks for all the information you give out! i’m in central nj these a guy around me that has a kw with the same sleeper all original truck beautiful, it’s not a show truck it pulls dry vans🤦🏾♂️😭😭 i didn’t know how rare it was actually lol i’ll try an get pics
They are smart they drive Chevys, they have already grown out of their Dodge and Ford phase of their life. Be cool to keep the truck you bought all original, I know it's a lot of work but upgrade the suspension but keep it original as possible.
