Even as someone who likes origami king, I really hope this sells a lot more so Nintendo could hopefully go back to the old formula of the first 2 games.
Well the chances are very high due to news about other stores sold out of ttyd and even someone said when they went to get the game they said it's sold out so chances of selling very well sre high
I think they can blend modern paper craft and classic pop up storybook elements for the future that maintain the turn based with new gimmicks that vary up the gameplay for the next entry. As long as the same flexibility of the badges and partners stay, you can add whatever new elements. I’d be interested in seeing using the capture cards from SPM as ways to summon older party members for a single encounter, or using stickers to mod your weapons, or paint to them add elementals attributes like red paint on a hammer for fire drive. Hell, bring back origami rings, but make it so the turn based works and your just setting up for advantage like a tactics field.
@@Mr.encore idk chief could be sue to them printing less copies. But engagement for TTYD is way lower than TOK. Could be because we were in the beginning of the pandemic when TOK dropped but I went to my local game store and he told me they sold maybe 15 copies of TTYD, and I live in Miami. I’m not too optimistic tbh. Mario rpg seemingly had more engagement and the sales for that were not where Nintendo thought they would be. But fingers crossed this game does well enough for Nintendo.
I really hope the TTYD remake almost acts like a soft reboot to the series. Like Intelligent Systems essentially starting over from TTYD and going from there. I'll keep my expectations in check though.
@@geschnitztekiste4111 I didn't mind Supper's gameplay, but Super was originally designed to be a spin-off. It was going to be a GameCube game and they didn't want two extremely similar games on one console. Spin-offs should have the differing gameplay while the main ones should be RPGs.

Yeah, this remake is fantastic. It looks amazing, fixes some notable flaws from the original, and strikes an almost perfect balance between being new and being faithful to the original. My only nitpick thus far is that you can't mash B to skip past text anymore. This could be mildly annoying on repeat playthroughs, but it won't bother anyone experiencing the game for the first time, and I think it's something I can get used to and learn to live with. Above all, I'm just very glad that this phenomenal Mario game is now accessible to a whole new audience.
You can smash B to skip past text if you already read that text. So, like if you accidentally clicked on a character you alreated interacted with while trying to jump, then you can skip that text. If it is a new chapter/section but the character says the same thing, however, you can't skip, but if you hit that character AGAIN within that time period then yeah you can skip. I guess they just REALLY didn't want people to accidentally skip dialogue/plot points, but you can in fact skip with b just in really specific circumstances.
I really think Paper Mario could have EASILY become a core franchise for Nintendo, up there with traditional Mario, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Splatoon etc. if the series had kept the battle/partner system and continued to improve the quality and charm after Thousand Year Door. Innovation is great, but when you try to reinvent the formula each game, you lose the foundation that appealed to people in the first place. Hopefully TTYD remake is a launchpad for a return to form, and not a "last hurrah".
If they want this remaster to hold out for a while they NEED to patch in the ability to skip text or speed it up in some way. There's no way speedrunners and people planning on playing multiple times are going to go through the effort when this version adds like an hour of just trying to get through text.
I'm almost done with chapter 3 and I give the remake 9.5/10 if they added extra fights like if you can fight prince mush that would probably push it up to 10/10

(like power lift) Star Sword: Attack all enemies with a sword slash Star Shield: Create a barrier around yourself and your partner like koops' shell shield Star Helmet: uses random status ailments on enemies (Not sure. If you told me this was gonna happen four years ago, I would've highly doubted it. Now that the remake is here...man I just hope it does super well. I'll be sure to spread the word so friends and family pick it up as well.
I'm thankful above all else that not only has TTYD been remade for Switch, but that Nintendo and Intelligent Systems are actually giving this remake a fair chance in the modern gaming landscape. I have been a proud member of the old guard for this game for the last two decades, and I was always worried/prepared for the possibility that if the cry to remake TTYD was ever granted that Nintendo would half-ass the production just to say that did it, or even worse try to "reinvent" the game by hybridizing the old formula with mechanics and ideals of the modern PM games. But virtually everything old fans loved about the original game is here for new gamers to experience. The streamlined turn-based combat, the unique designs of non-generic Toads and original npc races and characters, the risqué dialogue and scenarios that push the boundaries of a Mario game is all here for the vast majority of examples. It truly is a revival of the past in the present and I hope this can finally unite the entire Paper Mario fanbase on common ground. I really hope that this is a turning point for a new direction for Mario games in the future. Nintendo needs to stop being so conservative with what a Mario game is and allow studios creative freedom to world build on the franchise. Mario is so much more than just what you can fit into a platform game, and that is a title that Nintendo needs to embrace and encourage, not fear and restrict. I yearn for a day where Paper Mario characters and locations are just as iconic and recognized as those from the mainline platformers, and to perhaps see ideas from Paper Mario influence events in other Mario subseries or even cross over in games like MarioKart, Mario Party, or even the platformers or daresay a future Mario movie would be a literal dream come true for me.
Some ideas of my own. Main town: being like a big metropolitan city maybe. Important collectables: Maybe something like quasar stones or something. Fire flower, Hammer suit, Cape Feather Upgrade badges: Some badges oughta be upgradeable and have better attack power and new properties too Challenges: more in depth and difficult than put of 100 trials. And every set of challenges done rewards you something great and different Upgradeable badges: Some badges like said can be upgraded to newer better badges Examples: Quake Hammer to power quake then mega quake Fire Drive Upgraded to blaze drive then inferno drive Power bounce jump and smash to mega bounce jump and smash. And the badges would still cost the same fp and bp. But getting said upgrades would be specific and difficult to gain requirements. Speaking of... Three badges in particular to add more to your fight style Fire flower: Adds fire properties to all of Mario's attacks. Also causing burn to enemies. Some moves that were already fire based are now double in damage and can also damage and burn armored and fire enemies. Hammer suit: Adds hammer properties to attacks and hammer attacks are now thrown. Some moves that were already hammer based can ignore targets' defense Cape feather: Adds air priority to all attacks, also ups attack of jump moves by 2. Moves that are jump attacks hit multiple enemies at once Paper aesthetic level: Keep it at the same level as Thousand Year Door. That amount is just right. Not too much or too little. Animations of characters: smooth and fluid like Thousand Year door and no white borders around the characters. Paper aesthetic: To be on the same level as Thousand Year Door. I wish they would have changed how they handled npc death vs the original. The fact that tec and grodus are alive at the end makes a portion of the narrative feel a bit hollow. Part of what makes a good rpg is the players direct and indirect affect on the world. For those characters to live after the plot essentially killed them off takes away from the seriousness of it all.
I am also hoping whatever is next for paper mario it's not a remake of 64. Not because i wouldn't want that, but i just want to see what a new Paper mario game will be post ttyd remake. Just so if me being hopeful will really mean anything
Im a 90's kid who grew up renting Paper Mario 64 from the local movie store and has played all of the modern games as well. All of them are great in their own way. If Nintendo could take the best from both directions the series has gone in, it would be an epic game. Add the story and RPG elements from the older games with the newer action and adventure aspects of the newer titles.
They can tweak gameplay and mechanics all they want, what’s important is that there is soul. Super Paper Mario understood this. It still had consistent elements with the old games that made it belong emotionally, like characters, items, Merlon, a cook, etc. The new games only seem connected at first glance, but they share no soul with the first three
I just want a real Paper Mario 4. I don't like the idea of using 3, even if it's got the og battle system, because that designates SPM as "one of the other ones" when it's 100% part of the same classic PM world & continuity I want the next game to return to. To me SPM will always be Paper Mario 3.
The thing I though about it a lot, is that there were *multiple* ways to improve Sticker Star and Color Splash battle system without hurting their ideas it comes to mind. A game can be unique enough and good always that the ideas are elaborated on an appropiated way. My gripe with modern paper mario gameplay wise, is that some of its mechanics felt like ideas trown to the ground, with a lack of an evolution of them in order to feel great. I though this because while I didnt liked the normal ring combat system on OK, I really liked it on boss fights, which feels like an objetively better version of the normal combat, at least to me, and that if the turn gave room to more stuff, it genuely have a combat on the same level as TTYD. Now bear with me and imagine a Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass with Origami King World Design,but Chapters and Story as good as TTYD and unique fun characters and a battle system very similar to TTYD,but with small improvements. That's what I'm hoping for for the next game. Keep the good stuff from both Origami King and TTYD and make a spiritual sequel to TTYD.
There's no way this doesnt outsell Origami King. I've been watching multiple streams of people playing this, and so many people who have never seen it or given it a fair chance are completely blown away by its quality, and said they're going to get it when they weren't sure before. The streams are just nonstop messages in chat about people hyped about the game, waiting on their copy, saying it's so much better than they expected, etc. The hype for this game is FAR more massive than I anticipated. I think the biggest thing is, I knew people who had already played the game and were existing Paper Mario fans would be getting the game without a doubt, but I underestimated how many people had heard of it and had it on their radar, but had never had the chance to play it, or weren't sure if they could trust all the hype around the game - especially right after Mario RPG was underwhelming to some people. And they're only just now realizing, no, it's at least as good as they've ever heard. That nearly doubles my expectations for the amount of people I assumed would be buying the game. I really can't wait to hear some of these sales figures.
I just hope Nintendo does not try to compromise with both formulas and just gives us "Sticker/Splash" but with EXP. Origami King was really interesting but there was never any need to engage in Battles and the Bosses were an RNG fest.
Right now I'm on the water volumemental in Oragami King and I just try to avoid all enemies in that game because there's no point in fighting them outside of coins.
If this is the last year of the first-party Nintendo Switch lineup, TTYD is a perfect ending for a good era. I really hope Nintendo considers bringing back the formula that hardcore fans wanted for so long for their next console.
I am never complaining about Paper Mario ever again. We now have what is considered to be the greatest Paper Mario game ever remade and it’s all what the classic fans have been asking for and it’s all I could ever want and at this point, if Nintendo decides to return to their new Paper Mario formula of new, experimental games like Sticker, Color and Origami, I’ll be alright with it and if they truly return to form like TTYD and the original or even Super Paper Mario, I’ll be more than happy but also chill about it because no matter the outcome after this remake, I’ll be content and happy with just that since they finally returned to this amazing game and made it better than it could ever be. And that’s something I couldn’t never trade. Can’t wait to share this wonderful game with others and I will certainly not sell or trade my Switch nor this TTYD remake. It’s too precious to me and it’s meant to be shared. Thank you Nintendo for listening and delivering. I can die a happy Paper Mario fan and you will no longer hear me complain about the series ever again. Thank you.
Now that the remake's out I'm really hoping this game sells well, there is no excuse for this game not to after all the demand for this Paper Mario to come back, buy it to tell them that you want more games like this.
It's currently the best selling game on the US eShop so I have hopes it might at least outsell TOK which would tell Nintendo people really miss the old formula.

I work for a large electronics retailer, and I've been taken aback by how many parents are coming in and buying it for VERY young kids, who apparently have been watching people play it on RU-vid, so it's definitely getting a lot of exposure even with an audience who wasn't preemptively familiar with it. But you'd think it was just a brand new Mario game that came out, the way people are buying it. We're almost out of it, one person said Game Stop was sold out, and Target only had 2 copies left earlier today. We only got maybe half as many copies in as we did Mario RPG when it came out, and those took a while to sell; I felt like I had to shill it to kids who didn't really know what it was. 😅 But we either under-ordered TTYD or there just weren't enough copies to go around to begin with, idk.
While I don't mind at all Paper Mario games being gimmicky and experimental, I do believe the expanded bigger worlds for instance are like one of the best aspects of the modern games, The Origami King had like the best exploration out of any Paper Mario game (even TTYD), and it does a solid job at combining some elements from the first three games into the modern formula, at the very least I'd still want to have the traditional RPG elements and customization that made Paper Mario so great to begin with while also the devs toying around with any weird experimentation they want, I'm personally fine with that. While I do find a lot of the hype for this remake to be kinda toxic and coming from a place of hate rather than love just knowing how Paper Mario fans behave, there's still some people that genuinely want the series to be a traditional RPG again and if sales of Mario RPG Remake are anything to go by, there very much is a market for traditional Mario RPG games that aren't all completely focused on gimmicks, and the opportunity is there for Paper Mario to go back to again, being traditional and buying it is obviously the only way that we'll get that on top of how Nintendo views the results of the surveys they put out.
How is this hype toxic? Makes sense to me that long-time fans would still be bitter about their series being completely unrecognizable for half its run. Like, these games weren’t worse in some aspects and better than others, they just completely eradicated the series‘ charm and creativity with no replacement. Not just the fanbase hated it, the developers did too (evident by some of the dialogue in Color Splash and Origami King, like the CS Toad standing in line at the circus thanking Mario for talking to him even though he is merely a generic Toad). By pressuring the Mario IP team or whoever was responsible for that bs, the fans forced them to go back to greatness. They had every right to be angry and still do, without them complaining we would’ve had a Sticker Star 4 by now, and that would be a miserable timeline
@@geschnitztekiste4111 Which yeah I completely get and trust me I wouldn't be too happy either since I prefer the classic style too, what I have a problem with is how kinda vile and wild lunatics Paper Mario fans can be to the point of going to lengths of lambasting other people just because of their opinions not being the exact same as them as shoving the toxic negativity onto others. It's one thing to be critical about something which is totally fine on its own, but it's another thing if taking it too far especially on People that really like The Origami King, which there's lots more now that like it after 4 years of being out. I'm personally completely happy about this remake existing, but it should not be used to keep justifying the lunacy that's in these people's heads. It's not every Paper Mario fan that acts like this, but there's plenty that do.
I love how Color Splash and Origami went far and beyond with the level design as well as the huge variety in Music. On top of that I love the dialogues from both games. I wish people would be open minded because the hate have gotten so dumb to the point that others might avoid the games altogether.
Played the game for the first time with the remake. Absolutely loved every second. I knew it was good,but I didn't expect to love it that much. Nintendo,just continue with Paper Luigi: The Marvelous Compass. It's a great and funny story that would deserve to be told in full and you could keep everything that made TTYD great. The great story,unique characters and world and engaging fighting system. I rlly hope this remake means Paper Mario is saved.
Origami King is such an underrated gem. As for Sticker Star and Colour Splash, I hope they get re-released with their battle systems being like the one from thousand year door with a few of their nuiances (stickers/paint)

i remember watching your "paper mario... what happened" video almost a decade ago. what a painful journey we've all went through for 17 years. imagine we get a new paper mario game like the trilogy ik it's still dreaming at this point, but in a story/setting sense, do people want a sequel to either 64/TTYD or SPM's worlds or a completely new thing like SPM? personally i'd love some continuation for one of them
Personally, I’d like a sequel with a fresh plot Connected to the Mario Universe, but provides something new and original to give it OOMPH. Like Super’s Flipside.
I’m pretty sure that TTYD remake is going to sell well and they’re going to continue that RPG formula in the future. My thoughts about the IP team restrictions is that i believe in the early 2010’s Nintendo did want the Mario series to be in a certain way so that’s why a lot of Mario games (except Mario & Luigi Dream Team,Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon, Mario Kart 7 and 8 and the two 3DS Mario sports games) did feel safe and didn’t want to be more creative but since 2013 they did start to do some experimental stuff with the Mario series with games like Mario 3D World to a extinct, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and Mario Maker 1. Since 2017 when the Switch launched, we got games like Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battles and Mario Odyssey witch was the return of more creativity for the Mario series and as continued since then but the Paper Mario series up until now was the last one that did not get that treatment. Origami King did tried to do some creativity but was hold back because of the IP team and i believe that some time after Origami King came out Nintendo changed their perspective on the Mario series to be more creative and asked the IP team to stop the restrictions with Paper Mario so that explains why TTYD remake did not have any restrictions and has still the charms of the original
Ngl can’t really see it happening (I thought they would go back after ss as a kid lol) but u know u can never give up hope right ttyd is one of my 3 favorite games of all time and this remake is fantastic and reminding me why i regard it that highly, just hope nintendo takes notice
Despite some minor gripes and complaints I have with the TTYD remake I’m enjoying it overall and I can praise some QOL things and new details the remake added.
You can play that on NSO! One of my main reasons for upgrading my NSO subscription was to play PM: 64. I LOVED it!! I’m also loving the TTYD remake!!! Enjoyed OK too!
@@ruebenhernandez8016 On one hand, I get the reason why Paper Mario doesn’t have the paper mechanics. Paper Mario 64 just feels like a 2D version of Super Mario RPG except with a more simplified cast. But on the other hand, things would be fine if they remade 64 first. But Nintendo probably was thinking that Paper Mario in the N64 Switch Online Expansion Pack will be obsolete, so they got Ryota Kawade back with the TTYD remake.
Reecee's a goated creator, trust. & I wouldn't stress, creator or Paper Mario fan, there are a ton who like at least Origami King & Color Splash with the earlier games.
Origami King lacks challenge as well If you’re a puzzle guy, it’s the easiest ring puzzle game you’ve ever seen. And I’m a fan of puzzles, so I found Origami King the easiest. Easier than Super.
Two Things: One I just got a TTYD advert before resume watching, and One of the best Things to come out of The Remake is Making Vivian's Gender Ambiguous and Vague so that she can be both trans woman and biological female and neither is more right than the other, this should make everyone happy, but it failed Which is funny
I can see why you'd like them, I'm not a fan of it myself as I'm an older player and I have bias towards the older games, but I did like the creativity of the newer games, I just think they forced the paper gimmick a little too much. Just my opinion though :)
We need this game To Sell More then ever. To get It redeemed, To get What Spongebob Battle for bikini bottom got. Which is a True proper Sequel To Thousand year door. I still Remember that Very infamous interview after origami King that angered the entire internet. EVERYONE HATED IT. People wanted Paper mario to go back to there routes. But what did Nintendo do? Stick there heads in the sand and send Cease and desist letters to hard working patinate fans that gave good fan projects and Sue rom sites and fan sites. Us Paper mario fans were jealous of the Mario and Luigi Fans for the longest time that they got to have there cake and eat it too. It was only till recently after Alphadream went bankrupt did I discover what I was missing out on with Bowsers inside Story and how good it was.

And game devs who were stubborn and ignored going back to there routes for the longest time. Which is reason why we even got bug fables in the first place. Because Nintendo at the time didn’t care.
Chapter 3 is one of the best. I just completed it. I'm on my very first playthrough as well,but already in love with the game. Might be my favourite game of all time.
It however, lives up to the OG two games Sticker Star to Origami King feels like Paper Mario got a bad reboot but they’re cooking at the end a little bit.
