Not entering to the cathedral was a big mistake....its amazing inside, very impresive. There was no problem to wear shorts.
@DelightfulTravellers
@DelightfulTravellers 5 лет назад
We've been to quite a few cathedrals around the world so we were okay to skip this one. It felt weird enough wearing shorts in the actual city let alone a church. Everyone wears pants! 😃 - Trevor
@joaquin.suarez
@joaquin.suarez 5 лет назад
@@DelightfulTravellers i understand your politness😀. This cathedral its not just a religious building, its a cultural site for everyone to watch, they even got something like a museum inside (we are not that religious). I been in lots of cathedrals too, dont know why, but this one is very impresive inside, maeby the strong religious felling of the people of the past, that donate money to recontruct it after an earthquake. Anyway nice video....gonna watch more of these. Thanxs. 😅
@panolete
@panolete 5 лет назад
@@joaquin.suarez that you're not religious person doesn't mean you can be irrespectful with those who are religious. The church is as you may know a National ,monument and belongs to all chileans, but first of all it's a religious place and for that reason everyone who want to visit it should respect it as so. I think people have lost the sense of what to wear or how to conduct inside of a church, so I value the reason these canadians gave to skip walking in to the temple.(Although I think they erroneously didn't expect to much to see...;)))

Wonderful video! I loved the video! I'm a total Santiago lover hahaha! Last vacations I met two amazing german friends in Punta Arenas, and then showed them "La capital" with my boyfriend. When we were at Plaza the Armas one of them didn't want to enter because her clothes. I was very impressed because i never imagined the problem, but after she explained me that it could be irrespectful. Otherwise I told her that latinamerican culture is very different with that kind of thing, I mean, you can totally go anywere anyway. What do you think guys? Reggaeton and Religion start with R you know
@panolete
@panolete 5 лет назад
@@CristianRiscoGutierrez well, that's kind ignorant , don't you think? I mean if a person from other country decide to be "respectful" even though he/she may not be religious himself, and not enter a Church, it shows to me the great difference between a civilized tourist wandering around and those who in doing the same don't care about the culture or tradiitons of the locals. Now, it may be true that latinoamericans in general are very relax about religion but still there are people who have a different opinions and views of it. So it's better to be safe than sorry..;)

I was in Santiago a month ago. The city has many nice buildings, many parks and murals. I was shocked by the number of immigrants and homeless people living in parks, but I did not feel any danger. In addition, there was a lot of garbage in other parts of Chile is much cleaner. I recommend Punta Arenas and Patagonia. I fell in love with the south part of Chile and I want to go back there.

@szymonzielinski7160
@szymonzielinski7160 5 лет назад
@@barrapa, I am talking about the scale of homelessness and the gap between the rich and the poor. Yes, in every big city you can see homeless people and immigrants, but I had no idea about the scale of this phenomenon in Chile. My country has a similar GDP as Chile, but there is no such gap between the poor and the rich and food prices in Chile are incomparably bigger. From all EU countries, my country accepts the most immigrants from outside the EU. The prices of food are twice as high as in my country and everyone has to eat. You can eat cheaper in Germany and even in Japan. If you don't have studies then you have no chance of a good life in Chile.

Come in Autumn or spring, if you can make it to September (Chile's national holidays) then you'll see it at its best. Summer can be waaaaaaaaay too hot and winter has the risk of being too smoggy and you won't see a thing in Sky Costanera or San Cristóbal. Also, go to Bellavista BUT - DO - NOT go to Patio Bellavista. Biggest tourist trap in the whole city. Go to any bar or pub nearby. They're the same, 100x better and 1000x cheaper :D Source: Living in Santiago for almost a decade now.

Chile is not for the young at heart -- but healthy hearts of the older kind. If you are healthy and retired [do not need doctor care every month] --- Chile [especially their smaller towns, not Santiago at all -- are easy to live the grand life till the end]; many cities are just perfect for any retired American! Try not to move much money here [buy property 3 or four years later -- just rent and life] -- and be very careful with it [your funds in house or on person] -- these people will do anything to get at your retired or banking information [so keep your mouth shut]. I suggest holding your funds in America [better] -- and via a cash transfer send a months cash at a time for a few years through AFEX [cash exchange center national]! I have been here since 1990 -- never got a job -- got robbed but not hurt 8 or 9 times -- but love Chile [i have my burial site ready -- i am 73 years of age]. Chile is California weather all years round. The fifth region is the best and is easy to do all you wish to do in life of Chile, Viva Chile! Signed, dbp

@@vampylolita Hi, you probably get marked, and a group is robbing you repeatedly. I was robbed maybe 12 times in 25 years; of late -- no robbing me -- for i watch out for them and i never lead them to my house. Whatever you do in Chile, you need to watch -- who is following you on the street -- get a bike is the police's advice; most robbers are just wondering on foot on the city streets. Their reasoning is i must eat, and the state is at fault, so i go get what i can and then-some! If you have been marked -- you need to move out of that communa, and start over somewhere else -- and watch -- who the watchers are on the street! Sincerely, darrell

Darrell Parrish HI!! Yeah I understand what are you talking. I hope my country gets better from this bad things. But unfortunately this is getting worse, the police doesn't have a way to stop it. Maybe it's time to be more aggressive against them. Soldiers to help policeman at nights. Have a great day!!! Greetings Yasna
@freecarVideo4u
@freecarVideo4u 5 лет назад
@@vampylolita hi, again. Hi, I do not think it is possible to fix. The new problems are huge and dwarfing the “older petty thief” problems with the city police. They are now catching the foreigners [without permission to enter past 60 days]; and sending them to hospitals for checkups, for many do have the “old-world diseases, gonorrhea, syphilis and other STD's - that no one has ever heard of! Ebola is now in Text, in three places; 5000 are quarantined. Chile does not have the resources, as USA! Yet, you have 500,000 visiting foreign invaders [never to leave] - wishing for a social handout! Chile has 60 percent poor citizens - it has nothing to give to foreigner - especially intruders, yet most of the public hospitals are full of foreign babies -- no space for real Chileans! Sincerely, dbp
