I know this style of video is a little different from the norm. How did you like it? Did you like the first person POV? Or do you prefer the regular style? Let me know why!
its not bad, I personally like it. However, a big part of your channel is the cinematographic shots. Up to you, either option is good. i think i prefer regular style tho
The fuse should really be right next to the battery! The point of the fuse is to protect the wire catching fire and not the amp. If you have the fuse next to the amp and the insulation rubs off the wire and it grounds itself there, the fuse will not do anything and the wire will heat up and in the worst case catch on fire. Upvote this so Gingium sees this!
@Meme Man just realized you quit on the Miata dream too early... I’m 6’2 and fit fine. You should be fine too in the future. Unless you are an NBA player...
Thinking of getting a Skar 12 inch shallow sub, any good? And what speakers do you think I should pair them with. Super new to audio stuff and my project isn’t happening any time soon but I’d like to at least plan it out a little
Rectro YT skar audio is a brand that’s also a part of sundown audio. until i’m told different, my assumption is that all skar audio products are well made. i like rockford fosgate door speakers if you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on your audio setup. nothing wrong with kicker, but just not my cup of tea lol. boss audio wiring kits are undersized and over power rated. dangerous imo. amps are also over rated
Rectro YT ideally you want to match the rms power of an amp to the rated rms of the sub at the Resistance you’ll be wiring it for, but some amps lie about their rms and peak output. like boss audio lol
In 2007 I had a kicker 12" L7 powered by a Boss 1300W max (rms unknow) and I thought it worked great. One day I swapped subwoofers with my buddy, he had a JL audio 12" W7 but powered by a JL audio amp, I think it was 400w rms. My L7 sounded so much better in his car with his JL amp. The Boss amp did hold up for the 2ish years I kept it, but I wont ever recommend them.
this video reminds me of the old school videos back when you were putting eBay lips on your Miata lol (just with more expensive/better parts). i like the format keep it up!
Gingium if you didn't, make sure to tune the gain on the amp and adjust the high pass and low pass so you aren't having your speakers play frequencies outside of their optimal range. Your headache you mentioned may be from the sub playing frequencies below what you can actually hear starting at about 20hz but below 30hz can still cause that. Using the filters will keep the sub from playing too low and unburden the sub with playing the frequencies that it is not good at which results in less clarity. The Mids and tweeters not having the lower frequencies filtered out will also impact their clarity. Adjusting the gain on the sub will allow you to maintain audio quality at max volume instead of just blowing it out, the gain is not a bass boost and it is not a sub volume setting. The proper way to adjust the sub gain is with a multimeter and a tone generator, look for one of those guides. This video style works, I wouldn't say it is better that the other way. Might be good to use the new format in some videos and the old format with others depending on the subject.
I'm missing someone in my friends that knows all that stuff. I'd love to make my car audio great but as I know nothing I'm stuck with a vibrating doorcard...
Is that what I feel in some cars? I always wondered why some cars that have “good” audio (basically just loud with a ton of bass but lack depth and range) cause a bit of a headache and pressure in my ears.
I put my subs right behind the seats on the shelf. Only 8 in. ones will fit, and you have to cut a couple 8in. holes in the shelf itself. Little bit of rattle, but a few extra self trappers and some caulk helped a ton
Dude. First, thank you for this video. Secondly ... I immediately subscribed the moment I realized what your microphone really is. FANTASTIC! The only thing I'd change is putting the fuse on the battery line.
I've been vacillating about doing this same install, thanks for the info. And just as you were demonstrating what the passenger leg room looks like, I thought "How often do I have a passenger (rarely) and my wife is 5" 2". I may just pull the the trigger and go for it. Thanks again!
When I started out messing around with car audio systems back in high school I tried out Boss audio becuase of how inexpensive it was... Found out how garbage it was when the head unit and the amp didn't last a year... I learned the saying "buy once, cry once" the hard way... Hope you have better luck
@@Janice.Longoria. For speakers I highly recommend the Kicker CS series speakers. Not the cheapest but I found they are the best bang for the buck. You can find them anywhere, they sound great, and are pretty reliable. As far as head units a decent Pioneer head unit is the way to go. Especially if you can go with a touch screen unit. You can usually get a unit for around $300-400 and get most of the bells and whistles with 13 band EQ settings. Thats super important if you want to make your stereo system to sound great. Most less expensive units including stock units only have 3-4 EQ settings. And again they are pretty reliable. I have never had one fail on me. But keep in mind not all Pioneer head units are equal. Some are loaded with features and some are pretty watered down. You'll just have to find out if you can use a single din or a double din head unit and do some research from there
Big OOF on the Boss Audio. I guess when it comes down to it, it's all about what sounds best to you. I have a Sundown SA-8v3 with a 1 cube box in the trunk and Sundown SA65CX Coaxials, amplified by a PPI Audio Art a300.2 and it's beautiful and not all that expensive. Plenty of trunk room. Just replace the Boss amp and youll instantly have better sound. Also replace the head unit with a Pioneer DEH-80PRS.
I saw the speakers and instantly thought of the Magazine Cars from the Max Power days that would have 30 odd Clarion speakers, what a time that was and somewhat still is.
I built a sub box for my Miata that goes in the trunk, but dumps into the cab. And doesn’t take up much trunk space at, I set it in the right side corner of the trunk in front of the battery, took some creative thinking but beats giving your passengers leg cramp.
I would HIGHLY recommend getting the ROCKVILLE Ghost subwoofer. It Mounts where the spare tire should go or on top of the spare tire. It’s sounds great In My car and the amp is already built in. Sounds amazing for an 8in subwoofer. Great bass!
Suggestion for the the audio, I'm running the Kicker Hideaway HS8 8 inch enclosed sub with internal amp. I maximized the sub efficiency by placing it in my 92 on the passenger foot well FACED down towards the floor, resonating the low frequencies through out the cabin. I placed it., where the the factory ECU was and moved my Ecu actually above the glove box. It's sounds so full and efficient, I have been told by many it's impressive for the space it occupies. Mine is under the carpet and doesn't take up anymore space than the 92 factory ECU space.
Thank you Dan for this suggestion. I have been struggling for the near perfect sub solution in my 2010 and I think you just found it for me. I have used Kicker products over the years and have not been disappointed.
@@gkk2001 I can't speak for the NC, I'm not sure of theexcess space, as a 1.6 NA footwell, but if you aim the sub on the 45 degree part of the floor faced into the floor I would imagine the same efficient results.
Thank you for that suggestion. I have measured the spaces behind the seats and feel the Sub will fit under and behind the driver seat with no room to spare. I don’t really have any other spot short of the trunk but wanted to avoid that. Oddly, there is less room behind the passenger seat.
Hey you may want to consider moving the fuse closer to the battery. With it that close to the amp it’s not doing much unless the power wire is protected. Also you should grounding the amp directly to the battery if possible. It will improve your power to the amp
I have used under seat subwoofers before, kenwood makes a decent one it basically like the amp is the box. Or use small subs in the rear deck instead of rear speakers. A pair of 6.5" will surprise you
I just fixed up the aftermarket that came with my NA and got the headrest speakers working. It's a good start, but one day I hope to do something like this.
I just bought a miata a couple months ago and I really struggled finding a great sub with taking any space from the car. I use the car to deliver pizza so I need all the space I need. I found a perfect sub that takes up no space if you take out your spare tire. It’s a spare tire sub. You guys should check it out. It’s really worth looking into if you want a sub for your Miata. I have one that’s an 8 inch sub with a built in amp so you don’t have to worry about that. (Rockville RockGhost Hidden Powered 8" Car Subwoofer Spare Tire Sub-No Lost Space) go on Amazon and you will find it.
In my NA Miata trunk I have a 12" RF P2 sub in a 1 cubic foot box, 2 amps, 5 quarts of oil, tools, and a bag of random trash. I used to have a 2.5 cubic foot box and a big ass 12" Skar in place of the passenger seat but having a sub in the front is begging to have it stolen. My passenger space is for dogs and they need space to vomit.
This is the channel you watch, if you need inspiration for a miata build you can actually afford. Personally I'm gonna put one of those nagasaki hair dryers and then just make it a show car, because their is no point in trying to get any more than 500hp on a car that light. I feel like every car builder on youtube swears that if it isnt 600hp+ its garbage
Look up the "Raptor6" Subwoofer from Germany, tiny unit! But sounds fantastic considering its size. I knew a guy who had them on the back deck of a mk4 supra. they sounded like an 18" sub
Installed infinity component speakers and mounted an amp in the trunk in mine. I didn't want to sacrifice room in my NB2 so I opted out of getting a sub because I daily mine.
Perhaps you don't get this issue but I'd rethink mounting the amp in the boot well. I did this and any water overflow from the hood good straight into that area. End of amp in a jiffy.
As far as i know, low frequencies are the sub and high frequences are for the normal speakers/tweeters. Not the other way around. If you lowered the high freq, you effectively lowered the volume
I installed two 8" Rockford P2D2-8 subs in my buddy's single cab 94 Ranger. It was BANGIN! If you do the math, two 8's have less surface area than one 12. I thought the dual 8's sounded as clean as my dual 12's of the same family. Quality over size BREH
Glad he atleast went with skar audio. Boss amp isn't the best route to go with it tho. I have a 4th order bandpass sub box in my jeep. 4 skar 8in speakers and a 10 inch port all tied into into a skar 2000watt rms amp. Wired down to 1 ohm. Not the best system to have but my 8's surprise alot of people who've rode in it
Like the setup and probably gonna do the same however I wouldn’t have mounted the amp down there in the trunk. I’m speaking from experience, I opened my trunk after a hurricane and that entire little section was underwater
If you put good speakers in the doors. Like 3 way components, paired with a good amplifier and seal the doors up with sound deadener and box the door drivers correctly... You'll find that they are often louder, clearer and more Bassey then a small subwoofer. My front doors are 900rms each and push considerably more bass then a 600rms woofer in the boot.
Just curious (I’m not hating), what about a powered sub behind the seat like a Kicker Hideaway? They seem to work great and I get great bass outta mine in an mr2
I beg to differ, good sir! The JL Audio speaker setup, 400W Amp in the trunk, and two 8 inch subwoofers I put behind the seats in my NC is a more badass choice of audio for a miata. Think I'm going to have to make a video on it now...
I'm sorry but floor space is also storage/"trunk" space, so may as well save space on the floor instead of the trunk. I guess it probably sounds better where you put it though.
First video of yours I've seen- thanks for sharing your experience with the install. Did you trim out the head unit? I put a double-din in my '92, and the gaps are killing me, but I'm not sure what to do about it. Want it to look factory if I can make it so.
What is the best audio system for an NB Miata ? I removed the stock Bose 4H60 Double Din system from my 2002 Miata SE, but when I put the unit back in, I had no power (no display, no sound, no power antenna). Today I am checking fuses, disconnecting and connecting battery and unit, and disconnecting the spliced in footwell lamps that I put in after I removed the radio because it seems that interior lighting and radio are on the same circuit in these cars. I wonder what genius thought that was a good idea. If I can't fix the Bose, I may just replace the whole system.
Any chance of a review of the headunit using it with MSdroid? How is the head-unit day to day with glare? Is it legible being right beside the shifter (down lower) and how is it's user interface in the longer term?
There's an awesome 10" sub box for miata's that I think I bought on Amazon that fits into the left side of the trunk and fits amazing. Still have my trunk and the passenger has plenty of leg room
@@rayoregel599 type Miata Subwoofer Box into Amazon, and it’s the first 3 results. It’s $109 Has been working fantastic for me. But I’d recommend glueing the port where the wires go through cause mine came loose and killed my sound, thought the subwoofer itself died for a while.
@@gonshik sick man thanks. i’m upgrading my stock audio system currently.vi’ e changed out the door speakers, i have an amp now i just want a new head unit, sub and the rear internal speakers and i’ll be set. can’t wait i’m so new to this shit haha
@@rayoregel599 sick, one thing I wanted was a good sound system. Only issue is that with my bucket seats I only have the door speakers for sound, so I’m looking into ways to mount some door sized speakers under my roll bar in the rear.
Pioneer is the best bang for your buck audio brand, their radios are better then most radios that are priced way more and their sound quality is very good for a good price
Would an under seat sub like the Kenwood KSC-SW11 not have been a better option? I'm not sure what the space is like under a Miata seat but the Kenwood puts out a decent sound.
