Just discovered you channel and went on a binging spree! I absolutely love the format : shots of the restaurant, close up shots of the foods, calmly describing the foods (no crazy weird fake reaction after taking bites) and the best part, no excessive editing and loud background music. Just two normal food lovers enjoying food! Keep up outstanding work you two!! This channel is criminally underrated
So glad you're enjoying our videos! Haha yeah we're not exactly extraverts or super comfortable on camera but we certainly enjoy trying new restaurants. Thanks so much for the support!
I've been here once... it was alright... I wouldn't put it up against my other fav steakhouses. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again but if someone invited me to go there - I wouldn't mind. Fav steakhouses for those wondering: Gallagher's Del Frisco's Double Eagle (rockefeller center) Keens
I think we feel the same way! It's pretty shocking so many publications consider this one of the best steakhouses in the city. Gallagher's and Keens are two of our favorites for sure. Can't believe we've still not been to Del Frisco's but we're hoping to try it soon
Your review is spot-on. Exactly my impressions after eating there. You captured everything. And your production and presentation are perfect. I didn't like the steak and was offended by the price of Gage & Tollner's bread service. Frankly, I'm offended by any bread charge. Surprised that they didn't charge you for the hamburger bun. Their steak tasted funky to me. I've always thought that butter on a steak is strange, but lemon? C'mon! But the ambiance almost makes up for the quirky food and usury pricing. It's beautiful inside. However, I almost always make my steak at home...Costco prime ribeye. I can make it better than Gage & Tollner in my cast iron pan after marinating and dry aging. As stated before, I really like Knickerbocker Bar and Grill, but was offended that they wouldn't let Kristin and Will film inside...so I'm protesting. For a restaurant that has zero social media presence, turning down pros like Kristin and Will is dumb and arrogant.
Thank you! We had a tough time making this one. We hate being negative but also have to be honest. I'm actually surprised nearly all of the comments we've gotten are in agreement, because news coverage of this restaurant has been overwhelmingly positive. Haha they didn't charge for the bread but the cheese was a $5 upcharge! It's still a little pricey for brunch but that food looks fantastic and the ambiance somewhat justifies the cost. But I wouldn't go back for the food we ordered. Good choice, the Costco prime rib is fantastic! No need to boycott on our behalf! We were disappointed they turned us away but there's no reason to miss out on a restaurant you enjoy
I adore you both!! I love eating in Manhattan and I have watched many of your videos!! Please keep making them! You are both so sweet and amazing and informative!! I love this burger!! Very different way of preparing steaks here. I have mixed emotions!! Yes the cheese on the burger is amazing!! I prefer many other steak restaurants!! It's definitely not the best steakhouse in Manhattan!! Thank you so much!! Be well!! 🙂Oh! Home is Vancouver!! Have you ever been?! Peace!! Be well!! 🙂
Thank you so much! We're so glad you're enjoying our videos. Do you have any favorite restaurants you would recommend we try? And no, we haven't been to Vancouver yet but hopefully we can soon. It looks beautiful!
Yep! And yeah, the mint ice cream would be great on its own but doesn't work in the Baked Alaska. What else did you try? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
Was just there on Sunday for the first time. The oysters, Parker Rolls and martinis were excellent. Agree that the steak is meh. Had the same potato side and thought that was also meh. Fried Chicken was very good.
Thanks for the review! We regret not getting the fried chicken, the burger was salvaged by an amazing bun and $5 upcharge cheese. Seems like there are some great things on the menu but also a lot of meh things
Totally agree with your conclusions😅 I ate there many years ago & enjoyed the steak & ambiance! But never went back! Yes, there were so many conflicting flavors in your dishes! Lemon on a steak??? When the bread & cheese is more memorable than the meat on the $34 burger, they have a big problem. I can't eat a lot of sweets now but that Baken Alaska mountain at $34 was definitely overkill! The only dish that really intrigued me was the potato preparation! At $19 what was that all about?? Nice jacket, Kristin 😅
Do you remember which steak you ordered? We have this sense of guilt saying something bad about a restaurant when so many others had great experiences, but at the end of the day we have to be honest to our viewers. Haha yeah the burger was interesting and the cheese, although amazing, was a $5 upcharge! Supposedly the Baked Alaska is for 4 people (somewhat explaining the price) not 2 bottomless pits like us. The potato is honestly another one that we really enjoyed our first few bites of but kind of got old. And yes, $19 is probably the most anyone has ever spent on a potato. Thank you!
Agree'd, Great video. We have all tasted and tried steaks and sides, but Kristin and Will, you both have such relatable and comfortable review styles. Such discriptive critique that when the meal is over, I feel like I'm leaving the restaurant also. Nicely done. Forks Way Up.....
I initially thought maybe they prepared the steak at brunch differently than they would at dinner. But I looked at their menu and it says all of the steaks are prepared with the lemon. A bit strange...🤔 Anyway- great review! I always look forward to your videos.
We were hoping someone would let us know in the comments if they’ve tried other steaks here that were better but not yet! To us it feels like a nice restaurant that offers steak rather than a restaurant that specializes in it. The lemon and seasoning really isn’t bad! It’s just quite strong. Thank you!!
Enjoyed your review! In the late 60s early 70s I worked at the old Brooklyn Post Office 271 Cadman Plaza E Bklyn, NY 11201. The then postmaster Edwin J Quigley lunched at Cage & Tollner every day.
Very good video guys. You were very through with your assessment. I really enjoyed that you discussed the steak and desserts in-depth. Keep it up you’re doing a great job. I just wish I could have seen the final bill though.
Me and the fiance have this on our list weve hit enough steak houses were if youre chwrging loke this yiu better come correct or well be pissed lol. Were not tourists so the story and the price wint giving us no placebo affect
@@travelfuller Yes I will definitely let you guys know right now keens Is next on our list it's my favorite spot but my fiance hasn't been yet and then neither of us have went to Gallagher's so we're excited for that too
went here because of the hype, what a letdown. parker rolls- it's literally just bread🙄 taste like sweet bread you get in any Asian bakery steak- it didn't taste any better than the steak i make at home tbh, i was expecting more dry aged funk baked Alaska- wtf is the hype about? it's literally just ice cream
We would have to agree. Not sure how they determined this was the best restaurant in NYC. Our favorite part of the meal was the up charge bread which says a lot
