The tournament grind CONTINUES and the FGC gods led me to this... interesting...game? As if the movie wasn't GREAT rolls eyes enough, they made a game in its image. Even though I wouldn't call this the best game, I sure had a lot of fun playing it!

First time I saw this was in a mall arcade like in a large projection screen, as if it was the center piece of the establishment. I was wondering back then, what were they thinking. I mean nobody in their right mind would touch this shitty game based on a shitty movie. That would be a really embarassing thing to do. Yeah even back then we thought the entire thing was a disgusting Hollywood appropriated garbage. After so many years, I tried playing it on some phone emulator. I could probably say it wasn't that really bad like the first time I thought it would be. It's not great by any means, just a fighting game that I could probably enjoy when I was a kid (as compare to playing a lot of other shitty games, like mortal kombat in gameboy)

That 'Akuma' is a real life hi-profile martial artist and stunt coordinator, Ernie Reyes Sr. I think its another way of them copying MK by employing a recognizable face in the martial arts circle that's not a Hollywood biggie (the first MK trilogy had Ho Sung Pak and the Pesina siblings Carlos and Daniel).

Apparently they were just shown Akuma briefly by some Capcom execs because Super Turbo was brand new and nobody even knew about Akuma yet. They just based his design off their memories of the sprites and... Well... 90s happened.

when I was at mag like 3 years ago there was a guy who said a friend of his worked on the dev team, and his attempts to show problems with the game like the infinites were met with shrugs. they were just told to make a game that looked like mk.

Raul Julia as M.Bison is a treasure, you godless heathen. "For me, it was Tuesday" shall outlive all of us. Oh wait, you were referring to the game, not the movie. Eh... actually, the game has a TON of interesting ideas, many of which made it into "real" Capcom games. But all the good is buried underneath a layer of jank that is impossible to overcome. I wouldn't even put Kylie Minogue in the "good" category here.

This is one of those games 'serious' gamers would never admit is fun. I think it's a great blend of comedy and fun. Some of the combos are actually pretty sick. There are many flaws but the game was never meant to be serious in the first place. So, I just love it for its uniqueness.

There's an awesome interview with one of the devs. He said he was the only person in the room who understood anything about fighting games and he was fighting an uphill battle to fix it but then they just pushed it out the door because who cares just put it in arcades.

Basically all street fighters were skinny in that weak movie. Akuma on the other hand was originally planned for the film's sequel that never happened.

@@xMrDJ254x The movie was a financial success. Grossing almost 100 million dollars on a 35 million dollar budget. It getting a sequel wouldn't have been unexpected. Sequel plans were made, but nothing ever materialized and instead we got the ACTUAL failure SF movie Legend of Chun-Li. Could have been the fact that Bison was meant to come back, but his actor Raul Julia died not too long after his performance.

Everybody keeps talking as if it was developed by Capcom when of course it wasn’t (as if you couldn’t tell by looking at it for 5 seconds). It was by Incredible Technologies - the people that made golden tee golf, and the other arcade fighting atrocities Time Killers and Bloodstorm

I only found out this existed a couple of years ago. I remember renting SF The Movie on my PS1 back in the 90's and it was garbage, but playable. I always assumed the arcade version was the same but evidently not. I heard that Capcom hated this pile of sh*t so much that they re-constituted the character frames to make it feel and handle closer to Super Turbo. That was the home versions we got.

@@markg5480 - Yeah I love the home version. It's similarly hilarious, but plays well (unlike the arcade), seeing as it uses ST as a base with some eccentricities and fun extras of its own (like EX moves). *Infinitely broken* EX moves, but I play solely versus the CPU, so who's counting?

I remember walking to blockbusters waaaaaay back seeing this on shelves. Had me puzzled 🤨 af. Was so skeptical I didn’t even rent it out just went home and pondered on it so much I had went to my local library to use the computer 👨‍💻 just to see reviews on gamefaqs. They said it was so bad I never looked at it again and seen the game many years later to say “I’m so happy I never rented that game” 😆 if you ain’t grow up in the 90s everything I typed will sound foreign to you lol
