This goes so unbelievably hard, as do all of your videos. Anytime you say something I don't understand or don't know about, you don't waste a second briefly teaching whatever concept you're referring to. I come out of these videos feeling so educated.
the way ibdw gets up out of his chair to hug jmook at the end is so heartfelt, you can tell hes sad about losing but happy for jmook at the same time. melee is sick, humans are sicker
Awesome! I was hoping somebody would make a breakdown on this. I knew exactly what combo this was referring to as soon as I saw the title. Absolutely incredible moment that I’ve watched probably 30 times.
This is an incredible breakdown and an amazing combo. But what really caught my attention here was IBDW after Jmook won. Knowing they're such good friends really helps to understand what must have been going through his mind right then as he patiently waits for Jmook to finish popping off and come in for a very close bro hug. I ship it.
Best part of the combo is Toph's reaction. He called a routine up-smash at 1:32. Compare that to his reaction literally two seconds later: 1:34. Man was not ready
Nice vid, really well made! Constructive criticism time : I feel like you spend too much time talking about grabs and not enough time talking about the other parts of the combo. I feel like you only really talked about the combo at the end, to wrap things up, as if it wasn't the main topic. What I expect from a video like that is a real breakdown as to WHY the combo is crazy, what train of thought the player put behind it, and what kind of challenges he had to overcome to accomplish it (how hard it is to execute and to link everything together). I don't know if I'm clear, please let me know if you want me to clarify more. Great work nonetheless!
These videos are fucking amazing. The flat color training room edits are sick, the in game camera angles like on the upsmash are amazing, and WAS THAT THE YU GI OH LIFE COUNTER SOUND?!
was the shield drop important somehow vs just a regular drop through? like did it cut the jab end lag, or was holding shield just a helpful visual indicator for the point at which jmook could drop through plat?
You phrase and visualize frame data succinctly, making it much easier to teach and explain to viewers with a range of learning needs. One note about the final jab>shield drop fair, the IASA window for jab is 16 (1st animation has 17 total frames). While saving 1 frame might not seem worth the effort, you can easily hold shield during jab to have a pseudo-buffered shield drop on the IASA frame. I think it's what Jmook does here to make the jab>fair link more consistent. Zelda's jab in P+ has a better IASA window for her jab which makes jab>buffer shield drop>fair really scary. That's why I even bother mentioning this, I'm a huge fan of this series Walt, keep it up.
This is such a good video but i can't be the only one thinking that frame interpolation looks so bad compared to unsmoothed frame by frame ? it's always super jarring to see in melee videos
My favorite sheik combo is from Evo 2014 Mew2King vs PPMD. Game 1, Sheik vs Falco at about 5 minutes and 5 seconds on the clock. Link to set just before said time ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fUKDqKygZCo.htmlsi=sGr0Cl_3j8pnUWo3&t=3m5s
Man, stuff really doesnt hit the same when you've been playing for more than a decade. What I see as a standard sheik 0-death is now the object of frame-by-frame analysis. I might be tripping, but I feel like this wasn't even close to the coolest combo/interaction Jmook had at this tourney.
I dont think you understand how much these videos mean to the smash melee community, you're breathing the same life into content creation that GRsmash did for us in the 2010s
Quick suggestion. I bet a lot of these segments explaining some tech or some mechanic could perform really well as standalone RU-vid Shorts. Might be good to upload those especially since you already did the hard part already haha
Shield drops fall through faster. It's risky because stock GC controllers require a slight directional push. Missing it turns into a spot dodge. Most pros have a modded controller to cheat the movement. I love smash, but the chase of Nintendo sponsorship means pros mod controllers instead of the game. This means an expensive barrier of entry and higher skill ceiling after learning fundamentals.
@@crimzonterror7509 no problem. I play p+ (PM), and the window is wider for shield dropping. The engine makes it impossible to shield drop directly down, and it's the same kind of problem to code in light shielding.
Eww.. That late upair was way too nasty to just gloss over.. I'm pretty sure Moky expected a fair(or some other strong hit) and DId for it. But Jmook delayed his upair just enough for that DI input to burn Moky's jump. And Moky not having a jump is exactly the context where that follow-up bair works.
Neat frame interpolation at 7:20 on the slowdown, the image is a little unstable (as expected with so few frames) but I think the extra motion on slowed video is worth. Also love the chroma keyed full speed replay right after, and the way the needles hitboxes are presented, awesomely made video! Imagine on the fly interpolation for a replay live at a tourney 🤯
@@turndownforwalt also any shot you are making a major upset video. I'd love to see you talk about some of the lesser known Oregon homies. This tournament is really exciting for our scene!
