I disagree..prior knowledge of a new vehicles features helps show you, the viewer, on your next potential purchase..How would you feel if going to a car dealership and the salesperson has absolutely no idea on how a vehicle works??
Hey Matt, the right rear seat is actually called a “boss” seat. When you wanna go to recline mode the front seat suppose to go all the way forward to create that space for you. (Obviously means no passenger in the front seat then). So it’ll only be working on the right rear seat (in this left wheel car)
hahaaha becasue there is never teo bosses or a wife??? Ridiculous design and typical chinese shit. I just had a brand new MG ZS hire car and it is so poorly designed
You would think after years of reviewing international cars he would know this too. I knew what was wrong immediately and I have never even been in a ultra luxury car.
Normally this kind of function is only available on the right-rear seat, and it's interesting they've added it to the left-rear as well. Probably so the driver can have a rest at the back when the car is in park?
Was able to sample this car in China through Didi Luxe (sort of a Chinese equivalent of Uber Black). First of all, the top part of the back door doesn't have to be open, you have the option to only open the normal part of the door. Also, the front passenger seat is supposed to be all the way forward to give the back seat ample room to recline. I'm 178cm and it's plenty of space. But the car doesn't feel quite as luxurious when it's on the go despite good interior materials.
@@Neojhun I remember tesla didn't want jeremy clarkson to review one of their new cars back in 2017 or something because they were scared of the car not being good enough or something along those lines. im not sure about the full story but i do remember rolls royce didn't want to lend their cullinan suv to him because they are scared he was gonna say it was ugly
If Matson set on the passenger side like a boss, he would have all the legroom in the world even in reclining position and the driver wouldn't be bothered at all as well !!
The back doors are hilarious. I hate Teslas but I can't deny the doors on the Model X are clever, while they take up a lot of height they don't extend as far out from the car as a conventional door when opening. It's like they've looked at that and thought, how can we do a similar thing but remove any of the benefits. So they've ended up with a top part that takes up loads of additional height when open, and a bottom part that takes up all of the width of a conventional car door when open. Genius...
Also imagine getting in or out while it's raining. Tesla's doors still provide cover fo the cabin, but these ones just create a wide open gap for the rain to flood the passengers and the cabin.
I find the model x falcon doors to be utterly pointless but I won't get into that. I think these doors do have one benefit over traditional doors and one over falcon doors. More headroom than normal doors given that there is enough room above the car and if there isn't they can still open without the top part opening so better than falcon doors in that regard as well
Ok, I will get into why the model x falcon doors are utterly pointless because I can't keep my mouth shut. Tesla advertises that they can open in very tight spaces but there is no point in parking in a very tight space if your front doors can't open because they are still "normal" doors and thus need the space anyway. And where will people normally sit in a car? In the front obviously. So the only reason to have this kind of doors on a car is that they "look cool" and then you still have to ignore all the downsides. Sorry
Looks very nice but I hate how everything is controlled by that big slab tablet like screen. Should have kept a few physical buttons , physical buttons of essential functions are much more intuitive and easier to use while driving !!!
WheelsBoy does a much more in-depth road test of this HiPhi X...Also, rear seat occupants can adjust their seats, along with other functions with the panel that runs beneath the window sill...
i just wanna be sat outside the Deddington Arms Hotel every day, drinking Beer and watching Matt drive past in weird cars every day, hilarious ! ... (Chinese Roys rolls)
The “double image” you are experiencing is just because you don’t have the mirror oriented well. Tip and turn the mirror until it goes away. It’s the same thing you will see with a normal rear view mirror that has anti-glare positions, if not oriented properly. The rear view camera/ mirror far surpasses the regular mirror in every category.
Glad to see that chinese cars are been reviewed. We should change are attitude towards chinese vehicles since they value for money and stop the usual brand names from having this constant monopoly. More of these chinese brands will hopefully in the long term force other manufacturers to reduce there prices.
@@4literv6It started arriving to customers in September 2020. The EV6 , that most believes its copied, started production in March 2021. Most should do some research.
New 'digitalized' cars have so much potential failure points on top of battery packs with unknown long term qualities, I wonder what the average lifespan will turn out to be compared to cars now, and how that impacts sustainability at the end of the day.
I wonder if insurance companies are going to not want to insure your house if one of these are parked nearby. If one goes up in a small confined parking garage, the damage will be insane.
Unfortunately, this is the future for all cars. Maybe it’s not perfect, but most major manufacturers are using electric motors and large screens, the petrol engine cars are phasing out.😢
yet 'digitalized' modern cars are still more reliable than cars in the 80s / 90s, even in early 2000 its quite often to find broken down cars on the side of the road.
Great to see Carwow at the forefront of the car market and one of the few channels with their eyes open and reviewing what’s about to be a tsunami of Chinese manufacturers pushing car design/competition/pricing forward whilst the Europeans have been sat with their feet up. When you gonna be reviewing a Nio eh Matt….?
@Carwow34 competition = better product/price/experience for customer. It’s ok, Europe will have to up its game if they want to survive. Bring on the Chinese👌
As a recent purchaser of 2023 Tesla Model X, this was very entertaining to watch. I loled when the surprise champagne glasses popped out of the middle row.
Mat forgot to mention that this car has a starting price of €109.000. I had expected it to be €50.000 to €70.000. That price label puts the competitive value in a wholly different perspective.
@@mrm5183 well, he should mention it right away. I have gotten sick and tired of evaluations where rhinestones are compared to yellow diamonds without mentioning the differences in price. What should happen is set the expectations and then evaluate against that list. But that almost never happens. The carfan who presents himself as carbuff, acts like there is a general knowledge of expectations for this or that brand and model. It is nonsense. Be crystal clear, please.
Car lighting has become ridiculous. It is no longer for everyone's safety but ornamental. It makes an urban commute in November rain far more hazardous.
imagining is all youll be doing.... dont you think car makers thought about that when they designed it? sheesh do you sit around imagining every day or what?
there are sensors that prevent the door from colliding with other objects while opening, whether it's another car, roof, incoming cyclist or car. the sensors also prevents the upper door from opening while in the rain
The way the back door opens is impractical especially when its raining, but its the best back seat design I've seen in a car, it looks super comfy back there
@@渡海-q2w the nio, xpeng, or atto 3 looks and feels good but this thing.... My goodness gracious....😖🤢 Those big ugly bezels on the speedo screen.... They copy pasted the whole iOS into the main screen....
It's great to have Mat review these new cars from China. So many new manufacturers have popped up in China in the last couple of years and they have been experimenting with a lot of interesting things. They might still have problems, but the sooner they enter the global market, the earlier consumers will benefit from the diversity and competition. Kudos to Mat's team and to the HiPHY team! Hopefully we can see a mass production car review soon when the bugs are fixed, and the UX system updated to be more intuitive for European users. On the recline setup of the rear driver's side seat--my guess is it is designed for situations when the car is stationary (camping, waiting, or just a chat) and more than 1 person in the car want to stretch their legs, not for when the car is moving and someone's in the driver's seat. In China parents often need to wait a good while in the car to pick up their kids from school or tutoring so it is considered a plus. Some other comments suggest that this might be an engineering build for the right-hand side drive model--perhaps the HiPHY team could clarify:).
Looks intriguing, but I suspect it will depreciate quite quickly from new. Maybe one for a few years down the line if the rear gullwing doors don’t break down all the time.
Regen braking "one pedal driving" is actually quite dangerous without implementation of braking indications from the vehicle. It relies on the awareness of other drivers in a time when so many are distracted with mobile phones and or have very little awareness of car separation at speed for safety.
It demonstrates the importance of branding, if the HiPhi X was from a manufacturer such as Tesla, BMW, VW or Volvo it would probably be a contender for car of the year as it seems quite competitive and original. But being from a little known about brand it feels like getting any post-sales support could be a problem.
A great example of when the love of gimmicks and complexity trumps functionality and reliability. Anyone getting this without a leasing agreement should see a shrink :)
Every electric car is useless when it has technical problems. Tesla still has a way to start without the screen (card for entry and car start, top panel has buttons to put it in drive.)
That front lift when launched is atrocious and very jittery on the bumps looking at the video, some suspension tuning is in order, especially at this price…
I think that car is definitely worth about £50K. Not sure why it’s priced so high. It’s like a Chinese sweat-shop fashion brand thinking they can charge the same prices as Ralph Lauren or Armani.
You have absolutely no idea how much effort their engineers put all in to this car do you...? If you watch the video of a Chinese version how much effort in making, designing, the expensive tech, the sophisticated software, lots of dead cows wrapped almost everything inside, the cost of the rear door alone, the time consuming to manufacture the entire car using lots of robots, aaaaand.... the humongous 97Kw/h insanely expensive battery. They are not fooling around with this car, the company is from the start already told everybody about their goal and market for their products, and lots of independent car reviewers already gave their reviews about this car and it is really expensive to build. One thing this car brand don't have as of now is the brand recognition..... yet
@@dwchen1 wow, touched a nerve there 🤣 China is famous for ripping off other countries tech and stealing the ideas of other very hard working engineers. It doesn’t respect intellectual property. It also doesn’t respect basic human rights. But it does produce cheap crap very well and we’ll see which this car is over the next few years and whether consumers are willing to pay £100K for this car 🤣🤣Get off your high horse spouting crap.
Exactly, who the hell would buy this instead of a Model X or an EQE or something like that? Obviously talking about markets where this is priced similarly like in Europe
@@cp4512 And America doesn't steal tech? I thought all the Trumptards claim that 5G causes cancer, but now all the U.S. carriers have been promoting their 5G technology for years. Stop stealing the Chinese 5G technology, make your own 6G 🤣🤣🤣
@@FGGiskard Lexus, Genesis, even Tesla Model S then X faces similar problems at first when released, people who get used to big 3 Germans don't recognize them as a luxury brands. People always think why would I buy a Japanese or Korean so called luxury, or in a case of electric(new stuff without combustion V8 or V12) Tesla in their early days... but as days, months, and years goes by those brands prove their worth with their products and now people's perception towards them already changed and now they grew so big eating quite a significant chunk of those German market share. Consumers will get more options and new players will come to try their luck. Healthy competition is what people need.
Put the tables behind the front seats, move the cooler to where the tables are now, make the seats moveable back and forth so you have more legroom or trunk room when needed. That would make it basically perfect. There you go, free tips mfs!
I just can't imagine a single reason why anyone would want this over a Tesla Model X... It is as if they saw a Model X and its weirdness and said, "Oh we can make it weirder". It just doesnt make any sense.
@@wahahah I mean, it looks more weird, some of it's features are just more complex and weird just for the sake of it, like the doors, the lights front and back and all the interior gimmicks. That is my opinion at least
sometimes i find its hard to understand some people in the comment section. these British people do not have their car manufacturing industry anymore, and they have not enough money spending on the late model expensive cars, but they love considering themselves as some Car Masters looking down almost every new car maker, what do they have and what are they thinking?
"I can't see it and so I am not distracted" says a man while surrounded by giant LCD displays. Yes, I can definitely see how that little one for the passenger could be a distraction. WTF.
"Honey? Yes, I'll be a bit late. My car door won't close. I've already called the breakdown service to have someone look at it, but they said they couldn't read the fault. The car will now be towed to the authorised dealer and covered with a tarpaulin because they are fully booked with appointments for the next 3 weeks. It will probably cost almost a thousand pound and take 4 weeks. But hey, how cool it used to look when the door opened at the touch of a button in half a minute instead of that boring oldschool door."
