@@tzlawina the Turkish people choose their leader by democratic elections , wether you like him or not , that's the choose of the majority ....... Your GOVs are all about Democracy "LOL" if it suits them , if not , they conspire for military coups which is shameful and Hippocratical , don't believe me go ask 90% of South American countries
I'm sure they have a awards for science, Pyshics, animal & environment conservation.. Look it up just in case. I seen Professors get Nobel prices for subjects and work they done in which they specialised.
Not all of them. You can see in the video how fishing and eating of invasive species can boost local economy and help the environment. It is possible for business and ecology to coexist.
Amazing, inspiring story and a innovative solution to two sets of problems! I'm excited and hope to see more coverage on such issues! BTW, who downvotes conservation efforts LOL, are they part of the "Big Fish" Industry?
@@loodytheleprican3079 I said overfishing. And thousands of individual fishers can in fact cause almost as much harm as the large industrial fishing does. It all depends on how fragile the specific ecosystem is that the fishing occurs in. Which at this point is basically... almost all marine ecosystems. The vast majority. 90%+ of fish stocks globally have been fished to the point where they are not even commercially viable anymore. Commercial fishing is obviously worse - But it's not a hard rule that recreational fishing is somehow never harmful. It depends on what is being fished, and where.
I dove in Marmaris and Antalya, and I can say for sure the marine life is at a minimum, almost non existent. Not much to see or explore, I did see more trash and a toilet bowl than I saw fishes. I was so disgusted that i did not even dove my 2nd dive. I told the divemaster there is nothing to see and I was not going down a second time (i could tell it was another send bank and more rocks side rather then a coral - did not waste my time) I really do hope that this conservation will boost the area fish and the coral to come back. But, what about the trashes and tires and toilet bowls' are they going to clean that up? It is a great start none the less.
Spear fishermen, who can fish selectively, should be allowed into the No Fishing Zone to take as many invasive fish as they can. ... Kudos to the man in this video who lobbied to have this zone set up by the government of Turkey.
@@kondjedes4866 One would want to have sports-divers and the conservation-minded, who could be trained to distinguish betwixt the native and invasive species, involved in this work. They would have an actual commitment to taking out the invasives and protecting the natural marine environment.
The only thing I could do is to admire his dedication for protecting nature... Not lot of people could follow his step and he is one of the very few who could do such thing...
*Banning commercial fishing in the coastal areas* is very good for fish, because they grow up along the coast. When the fish are large, they go out into the deep sea, this is where fishing should be allowed.
@@polarwolfo You've read too much popular media and taken to their propaganda. I was surprised as well when it turns out that Japan is not main culprit in killing whales. It is the Europeans with Russians and Norwegians in particular that have the most to answer.
Spain morroco Greece Albania and Italy are killing 96% of the fish in Mediterranean. Fish never reach Montenegro and Croatia. Somebody do something about this
Böyle güzel insanların kıymetini yine her zamanki gibi bilinçli toplumlar biliyor. Kendi kaynaklarımızdan bu habere erişemezken yabancı kaynaklardan görüyoruz izliyoruz ama onlar dıj güjler. Teşekkürler Zafer KIZILKAYA, teşekkürler The Economist.
Yes, there are people working to improve our world, to reduce damage caused by humans. They should be more than what we have, but this is a start. Thank you very much.
@bruceownsu You're assuming I don't practise "other means" but I can assure you I do. I have no issue with individuals going to the beach or riverbank with rod and line to harvest natures bounty, as long as they only take enough to satisfy personal consumption. As I live inland, fishing for my own use is neither practical nor environmentally acceptable. Industrialised harvesting of natures bounty would be outlawed if I had my way.
It's not a one man's Job 😂😂 , he maybe the 1st to address that issue and do something about it , but he is backed up by the Turkish Gov and it's Marien police , and may God bless him for his hard work
I am moved by his passion to save marine lives and doing what he likes. It's too easy to say that I have a good and stable job but saying i love my job coming to work everyday until you retire is so hard.
respect to you sir for the great work: conservation & educate people the important not to fish in the spawning area.. you may visit Malaysia someday to see our fish spawning habitat: "artificial reef"
I am scuba diver and living in Turkey. We have beautiful seas, clean ve crystal blue. But no fishes at all. After a day of diving, divers prefer going to fish restaurants. And then you realize where the marine life is. As a consumer, I reject eating local fishes all the time, only when we have lots of fishes from Black Sea, in winter time. Mackerel and salmon from Norway, local aquaculture tuna is good for me.
All farmed fish are being fed smaller fish from the Baltic Sea, Baltic Sea is a no-fishing zone, due to how many chemicals Russia, Germany and France dumped there, Baltic Sea is a closed sea, it takes minimum 30-50 years before the sea can clean it self. Now, the fish you mentioned, "Norwegian salmon" which is farmed salmon(Norway export this technology of farming around the world, thats why everyone is eating Norwegian salmon) is eating poisonous fish as food, not to mention all the anti-biotic these fish gets in their system, due to all the deceases that occurs when living in such close encounters as they do. You should eat locally fished food, but you should support local fishers in stead of big tanks sweeping the world oceans. This is the job to the gov. around the world, to police such important matters, but as long as politician pockets fill, who cares what happens in the next 100 years
MitchConnect Crunk the baltic sea isn’t a no fishing zone, i live on the east coast of sweden and you can eat alot of the fish from the baltic sea. Of course you need to be careful with some species like wild salmon and herring but if you are male adult you can eat them once per week. I usually don’t eat fish from the baltic sea but it’s definetely not a no fishing zone.
It's that benefit to fishermen who can just go with very little effort and fish outside the zone that should be the greatest selling point. It has been proven time and time again that if you have a few no fish zones in an area then outside the zones fish populations also go way up. So you want to be able to catch more fish? Do the clever thing and make no fishing zones.
very nice story, but fish dont have fences. This is a nice story but it wont make any difference! Another part of the story is the Med is warming faster than fish can adapt and soon its adios hot tub fish!

To say this man hasn't made a difference is absolutely ridiculous. Maybe watch the video again....the fish will adapt much better than us stupid humans.
Adriatic sea inshore is the most over-fished body of sea. Im third generation fisherman and diver, and i can asure you that its empty like a desert, it was alarming 25 years ago and something could be done, but now its just dead and hopeless. Sad life and sad overfishing + illegal fishing
Unfortunately, we are now in 2021 and nothing has changed things have actually got even worse. Humans are greedy so they will continue to overfish no matter what. 700 - 800 million people depend on fishing as a source of income and unfortunately it all about money, but the majority lot of humans don't seem to realise the dangerous impact this will cause when all marine life will be extinct. Already there is a rise of carbon levels in our oceans due to overfishing and this is only the start things will get even worse in the next 20 years. Fish will never be safe in the oceans as long as humans are around and that is the sad reality of it.
Anglers is not responsible for destruction of fish stocks. This guys do not anything about commercial fishing boat and industrial fishing industry. that marine life protection society only a muppet that government and fishing industry show to public for "we do something for this problem"
that invasive fishes is the best dish fishes in philippines we call it "danggit" (rabbitfish) and "lagao" the red one..... its more expensive than chicken or pork meat.....
If you remember a Jewish fishermen cast his net and caught nothing but a famous guy came along and just told him where to cast the net.....then they had a boat load......so its not overfishing....it fishing education that is needed...fishing sonars and fishing holes and canyons that need to be found
Zafer Kizilkaya is a hero. The wildlife in the Mediterranean at large needs more protection and governments involvement. The work that Zafer Kizilkaya is doing should be formalized so that it will be continued for the future.
