@@brasileirokubrusly2if saying something undeniably true is "giving ammo" to a group of people you don't like, then it's time to consider just how much you may be wrong
@@Laotzu.Goldbug sure. what ZIZEK says is the most racist thing in the world is UNDENIABLY true. Omg dude. And Yes, Doomer. I do. Saying the mith of the noble savage is the “worst racism” in a world of centuries of ethnic cleansing is giving ammo to the cleasing to go on
@@brasileirokubrusly2 Disagree. The left has ceded so much ground over conversations we find "distasteful." For example I believe diversity and immigration is a net positive, but if you are going to pretend there aren't downsides that need to be managed, it's a freebie for those on the right who are then the only people willing to discuss the negatives to such issues.
Ive heard it described as treating people and culture like muesem exhibits, like their only value is in a mystical stereotype that should never change, to be kept in a glass case if you like.
@@stevenrubisch629They should be people like yourself to you. If you treat them like that, you are clearly looking down on them (look but don't touch), all while pretending to like/admire them.
@dinkopausic6357 Who said I admire them? I do find some of their moral/cultural idiosyncrasies to be moderately entertaining, however, if I thought there was anything in their cultures worth emulating, I would already be doing so. By continuing to live as I do, I vote with my proverbial feet as which culture and set of values I find to be superior. Be offended if you wish, but I offer no apology or contrition.
For those that don't know, the reason he has those weird mannerisms is because he's got severe stage fright and social anxiety, despite being a world-renowned public speaker, although it does indeed look like he does cocaine xD
Stage fright my ass. He being this weird while pushing basic logic all over the place just tells he had courage enough to get on a stage trying to talk about life meaning on our complex society, while never getting his own shit together in the first place. The fact that.people actually listen to him just means there's folks that are much more braindead than he are.
as a native this is the first time ive actually heard this concern being voiced outside of a comedy setting. Update: this is the most attention ive ever recieved about anything. it appears i should clarify my comment based on the amount of attention its received. 1.) Everyones opinion matters, it does not matter what color you are or anything like that. i love reading your insights. you are not excluded no matter who you are. 2.) okay, this kind of is a comedy setting but I respect Zizek because hes an intellectual independant thinker, i like to think hes the modern day aristotle. (just my opinion) 3.) as some of you pointed We were murdering each other long long before the white man showed up. anybody who is "Savage" enough to murder someone else should be called a savage, and is NOT in tune with nature, remember this is a red man telling you this. and im sure a great deal of us were in tune with nature, but alot of us were just straight up injun savages.
@@L333goknot at all, he's just saying he doesnt know why we attribute all native american peoples to being "in tune with nature" i mean , i am lol, but i know some crappy nates who just huff hair spray all day. were not all zen is what hes trying to say. hes right.
@@JackJohnson-d2y True. Its a racist narrative that tries to portray natives as being too dumb to be able to interact with technology and the modern world.
Slavoj is just a different breed. I'm not communist at all but I have learned a lot from this guy about philosophy, culture, politics, and the like of that. Even watching him debate is insane, he is so precise with his words and his stories. It is very rare to find people with that level of awareness and intellict that are capable of articulating their true thoughts.
@penderyn8794I'm so damn tired of this "no true scotsman"-argument. Communism is to a socialist what the biblical god is to a christian. An idealised metaphysical thing they worship, that contorts to be whatever they want it to be so it lines up with their own beliefs and at best keeps a common rethoric. By definition, there can never be actualised communism so to claim that any socialist state wasn't truly communist is both true and entirely irrelevant. Those dictatorships were as close to or far from achieving true communism as anyone wants them to be. Saying they were no true socialists/communists is like saying christian fundamentalists aren't true christians. Those groups of people saw and see themselves as true adherents to their sacred creed of choice and acted accordingly. This is why religions, both traditional and new age (like for example communism) are a cancer to the mind.
@@danidejaneiro8378outselling has nothing to do with it. The mere existence of decaf is evidence enough. It exists, so people must be drinking it. That’s like saying “no way Diet Coke sells more than regular coke “ well of course not, that’s not his point at all. Coffee is just an example. Vegan “meat,” or pop without sugar or coffee without caffeine are the “cleanest” forms of these products because the “part that’s bad for you” so to speak, has been removed. But there are people who drink decaf rather than just not have coffee, which is ridiculous to him. That’s all he’s saying.
@@Will140f - “in today’s society, we like to get a product BUT in its cleanest form” were his exact words. He implied the “clean” versions were preferred by the whole society. He is wrong
@@danidejaneiro8378 wanting is a multilayered concept. Want as easily achievable thing and/or want something without their attacthed consequences/harms.
The way I understood this was, “Talking to indigenous people like they are relics in a video game, no matter how many flowery words you use, is not respectful or admiration. It’s just racism disguised as politeness. Instead, you should talk to indigenous people as….people. Because they are people. Not holier then thou elves. Human beings. And it’s not like every thing they did/do or believe is something you HAVE to agree with. You can still be respectful without praising them every five seconds.”
it’s called the ‘Noble Savage’. They were just like everyone else. Waged war, conquered rival tribes, enslaved and tortured enemies, and they would’ve loved to have guns just like anyone else.
Pretty much like when Americans say it's racist to ask where someone is from if you detect an accent. Not asking means completely ignoring the other person's story, cultural baggage and belonging. It's a fake pretending. I see a difference and I'm fascinated by it. I'm curious. I want to learn. Tell me about you. Tell me about living here as a foreigner. What do you miss? What are your hopes? Why are you here? That's how you establish genuine connection. Not that fake pretending I didn't see you're different stuff. I can obviously see how it can be annoying to be asked 20 times a day, or with an annoyed "go back to your country" tone (THAT'S racist!). Then they go abroad and expect everyone to eat, dress and think like them...(obviously generalising here, I'm aware not Americans are the same). I'm an immigrant in the UK and people ask me where I'm from all the time. Thank goodness! So many inspiring conversations.

I totally agree Respecting the other in this manner is hypocritical and a true form of racism Understanding the other and disagreeing with them without discrimination is what respect is all about

Pornography is a good example of sex without sex. Audre Lorde is known to have said, “pornography is a direct denial of the power of the erotic, for it represents the suppression of true feeling. Pornography emphasizes sensation without feeling”. Rest in power Audrey Lorde.
Yeah remindrr that the natives chased hundreds of buffalos over cliffs, then took what thry could carry and left everything else to rot. They also raided and genocided each other
We have to redefine racism because race isn’t real. What it is is culturism or cultural ignorance or cultural supremacy or even pride in ignorance or, more realistically, classism. Race is to sex what culture is to gender except there aren’t two races - there is one. One race, many phenotypical and cultural expressions and ideologies. The very concept and notion of race is antiquated and anti-scientific. Whoever speaks of race and racism is referring to our ignorant past. Even if you wanted to be racist you can’t unless you are deciding to believe in fairy tales, which of course people do.
Yeah, that's a great way of putting it, "false respect." I know myself im guilty of that. Maybe I should earnestly look at other cultures of the world and find what I can respect and appreciate, rather than just going off of positive steryotypes.
“What a racist thing to imply”, says Zizek 😂😂😂 You are absolutely right and Zizek is a douche. I was imagining that the most racist thing would be in the realms of “centuries of systematic slavery” or something.
It's opposite day every day for Zizek because that's what postmodernists do. If society says it's good, he'll say it's bad. If society says it's bad, then it's good. Always looking for a fight and picking things apart because ultimately he is determined to believe in nothing.
