Hey Fam, just wanted to give y’all a headsup. RU-vid is crawling with scammers 😩 They use creators profile pics and write subscribers in the comment section. Please be careful, and don’t give out any of your information! I would never ask y’all for money or your email address. it’s easy to tell if it’s a scammer they can’t have the same name and if you go to their channel it won’t be the creators channel. I do my best to report them but they always pop up again and again. If you do get any impersonators please report them.

I'm Japanese who grew up in Japan. I think we prefer making windows small in bigger cities (more population), so no one can creep and see the inside of house. We can definitely make bigger windows in open land like this. I'm enjoying your videos Sundai! Thank you for taking us along with your journey!

@@SundaiLove Japanese Brazilian living here in JP. Thank you for this series! love it! as for using curtains/blinds I definitely agree that it's more for security reasons. It's really common in Japan to leave the windows slightly open etc. on hot summer nights so if it's a big ass window it's just too easy for uninvited guests to get in. Also my parents bought a house with lots of windows and they apparently need to keep the windows on one side closed because the friendly old neighbor next door keeps "popping in" from the window for a chat.

Honestly I think the place she loved has good bones she can turn the red building into a rental and make passive income or have been a place where patrons can stay if they wanna help her fix up the property, like when people fix up chateaus they have guest who volunteer to help restore. Then she can turn one of the sheds or the blue building into a work studio for videos or DIY projects/ construction. As well as the house is great it doesn't need that many rooms she can bust open a wall and make a bigger bedroom room or a bigger bathroom with a tub. Only thing I worry about is electric, wifi, and plumbing if that's squared off I would get it.

I don’t how I ended up here ,oddly I lived outside of Tokyo in a nice country home . We did have a graveyard on one side with a shrine in front of it. We never had a problem with the grave yard , few came & they we always quite. The other side was a corn field & once a year at harvest there was a bit of action for a few days. We loved living there , we had beautiful ponds with koi fish. Stayed three years and hated to move but job transferred us elsewhere.

Smaller windows mean better heat retention in the winter. I learned from watching TokyoLama’s videos that the more traditional Japanese houses are pretty cold in winter because of how they’re built to deal with summer heat. Glass is a poor insulator and smaller windows is better if you’re going to use aircon and reverse cycle heating.

Get the one with lots of houses. Put a bathroom suite next to kitchen and the room next to it a bedroom suite. Guest room at the other end and salon in middle. You can fix up the two story and rent it out to pay for the crap to. Of repairs 😊

I watched some Japanese renovation shows before and I rmb some houses are built so close to another just because of space. You can literally reach your hand out and touch the neighbour's house. So I'm guessing for privacy ppl just decided to make window smaller so other ppl can't really see. The more narrow the less they can see it from an angle as well.

When I saw that yellow house I was like "she's gonna find a way to by this house." I think the bathroom/outhouse and red building could probably be salvageable. Red building could be used as a guest house or airbnb. The other metal structures and the stables/animal pin could go (maybe salvage some of the good wood and metal for your garden. I think you could make an expansion to the bathroom/outhouse to get more sq. footage.

About the window-thing, I think it might be becouse of temperature regulating the building. I don't quite know what the weather is like, but with harsh winters and harsh summers all the windows make it hard for a building to be pleasent to live in. With installations like a heated floor and a airconditioner the buildings can be regulated. Less windows help with this regulation because windows basically dont insulate a building. I don't know if I explaind it very well but please keep in mind that having a lot of windows can make it hard to have good living conditions in hars temperatures. The second house does absolutely look stunning though, I low-key wish to see you make the most out of it ;)

Sundai, I wonder if the reason the windows are smaller in modern homes , is for energy efficiency reasons? Less windows may be easier to control interior temperature. Congrats on your home! Can't wait o see the renovation.

That was fun to watch! Congratulations on 1st offer! I didn’t realize new construction had tiny windows…. Best thing about my current home is how full of light it is. So… I understand that need to have a sunny warm feeling home. I’m very interested to learn from your experience in home buying in Japan as a non resident even though i may be a few years out from actually doing so.
