Update! Official release is on April 15th. Ive been doing a lot of testing since posting this video and very excited to show off more on the 15th. Let me know what you would like to see running and testing with the V3
I would love to know how loud that thing gets? Also a little concerned about the issues with the stand that you pointed-out - did the manufacturer respond? Thanks for all the great videos!
Idk. Just make sure the tablet doesn't go beyond 60c, idc what the manufacturers do, idc what you do. Its unsafe, uncomfortable to think of, and quite frankly a stupid design flaw. Its experimental tech. It's made to last at best 5years so enjoy, i guess
@@tissuenoob Sure, although I must say the solution I proposed can also be wired, which is what I do whenever not at home. You can just connect the tablet to the pc/laptop, and usb tether. The moonlight connection will go through there regardless of other connections, making it very reliable and secure.
The ability to use it as an external display is a very environmentally friendly thing to do. Imagine if all those old iMac, iPad, and other devices with displays were still being deployed as secondary displays instead of in landfills...
This tablet needs a proper Surface Pro style kickstand built into the device. When you lay it down you block air intake, when you put on the extra stand you block air intake. This is a huge oversight that basically necessitates you carry around a separate tablet stand. Hopefully they get this fixed for the next version of this tablet.
if you look on their website, the way they have the stand setup it does not. ETA was suppose to use the top part of the back stand as the leg, not the bottom. (Edit)
I just got a 1TB Surface Pro 9 and that gets ridiculously loud with really not that much running. Fan is about to burst out of the metal casing sometimes. Considering warranty. Sometimes I wonder if it's the kickstand just trapping in extra heat on that SSD. Metal on metal on metal. Doesn't help I have to have a Satechi metal hub along the side because what can you do with 2 USB-C ports otherwise? Now I've got buyers remorse looking at this lol.
Please do slow diagonal lines when you do the full review with Photoshop. It helps us illustrators and graphic designers see the wobble of the stylus. Thank you 😊
ever since Minisforum announced this windows tablet, i am looking forward to your review on this one as i am really planning to buy one as it is portable (easy to bring to work) plus it can serve as a dual monitor or can be used with other mini PC... i just hope the price will be a great one as i am super interested on this one
@@JosephHarry idk man, this guy is not the most savvy of them tech bros, he didn't even see from the minisforum page for this tablet that you're supposed to bend the top part of the case to have it as a stand and not the bottom one like a surface tablet, and it resulted in him blocking out the fans. So he's not the brightest and I wouldn't trust him with testing linux
I would also love to see Linux running on this, although I'd be most concerned about power drain in standby, considering the use case for a device like this.
Really? I am sure an iPad Pro is much faster and quiet, because it has passive cooling. There are no good Apps for Windows in Tablet mode for that Stylus. The ipad has a ton of pro Apps for artists, all working with the pencil. This Windows Tablet is good for gaming and emulation, but not for artists..
@@TT-pi8ww Depending on the pen being pressure sensitive, something like CSP would work just fine. The bigger issue i can see is a lack of peripherals.
@@TT-pi8ww My ipad pro 11 can't handle my clipstudio files due to a lack of ram. My pc has 64gb of memory, and I work on a canvas size of 10000 px. There are differences between professional and hobby artists.
@@ETAPRIME They asked for feedback in some Reddit communities and forums so a lot of us nerds got to chime in. For example, the 1TB option was going to come with only 16GB RAM, and it was going to have a microSD card slot instead of the UHS-II SD. I think it's because of that they have made such a perfect device. They've made something that appeals to every type of prosumer. Photographer/ artist? Check. (1600p instead of 1440p, stylus, UHS-II SD) Home recording? Check. (Passive mode, extremely expandable USB layout)
I was literally looking for a 14” laptop for school that can do light gaming along with a touch screen for drawing. I’m so glad I found out about this when I did. Not sure what the price or when the release date of this device is but I really excited already
Minisforum has really came out with some great products. I wanna hear more about the battery life and I wonder if it will allow me to do a dual boot. Gonna wait for the price because I was looking for a new laptop but this cshould do what I need it for. GREAT VID.
Honestly that's how I imagined tablets as a kid running windows not an upgraded Android os they make much more sense using windows with actual compact design
Looking forward to an emulation video featuring this, particularly RPCS3 and other high end ones to see if the cooling would keep up given the small form factor. Also looking forward to see what sort of clip on controllers and accessories people come up with for this thing.
VLink is something I wanted for a while. Plugging in any console, any computer would be amazing. As for the stand, they absolute need to go the Legion go, Surface Tablet route and stick the wide stand onto the device.
When using the kickstand cover case, you should use the upper part as the stand, not the lower part to allow the vents to be exposed. It can be seen on the V3 minisforum website.
These ryzen mini computer coming out of nowhere is so awsome! Imagine this tablet with dual os , windows and android. It would be a emulation powerhouse!
@@kirby21-xz4rxHaven't you heard of Android-x86? It can absolutely be done... Also, nothing is stopping a company from putting both an x86 processor and an Arm processor in one device. In fact, it was either HP or Lenovo that had a laptop just like that at CES this year!
Having that display input port is HUGE in regards to e-waste since this will still be able to be used (tbh every tablet and AIO desktop should do this) What I'm really interested in is the pen input, is it just mimicking finger input or is it using a second digitizer that can see tilt and pressure? p.s. price would be nice to know as well.
@@declangallagher1448 $900-ish would be damn reasonable (depending on how much keyboard and pen add-ons are as well) with this being a legitimate option to replace an aging laptop. I've had so many Apple and Android tablets and they inevitably end up just being pure content consumption machines because the apps are always too restricted for any real use, at least for my own use case (Android a bit less-so, but still not nearly as free as a proper PC/Laptop.)
Truly an awesome device. It is a bit larger than I was expecting. I love the fact that this tablet will charge off of just about anything 15w or above. So handy to not have to carry around a big charge brick. The VLink feature is a very nice addition. Sure to come in clutch at some point. There is a "mod" for the display that will bring the freesync range down to 36hz I believe. I tried it out and it worked great. Very nice to have that low cutoff at times. Can't wait to see this device evolve in the next few yrs with Strix Point, etc.
hey one thing that's really important for anyone looking to buy this for any sort of art related use is how many buttons the pen has and how well you can customize what they do
@@OlindoPindaro Pretty sure OLED isn't what would stop a good graphics tablet from being a good graphics tablet. Otherwise Huion, XP-Pen and Wacom are all screwed.
This looks awesome! I would love to see some digital sculpting in blender tested with the pen. I have been wanting something like this for digital sculpting because the performance on most tablets isn't good enough for high poly models and doing details.
In the full review could you test out Linux Compatability? Just something like Fedora 39 or Ubuntu 24.04. Just test to see if the webcam, pen, and the other accessories
Lets think about this for a moment. This device requires a dedicated app for power management. Linux has horrible support for most power management solutions. At this point, what's wrong with using WSL?
@@TeamEmperor "power management solutions" are not limited to proprietary applications like the one this device comes with. there are many userspace tools for power management on linux. i would not prefer wsl because my os of choice is linux, not windows.
@@TeamEmperor I encourage you to look up “TLP Linux”. I achieve better battery life on all my mobile devices running Linux with this than when they were running Windows. Super handy!
@@sebihotza Okay, valid, and I don't like Windows Privacy BS either. Things would be better for Linux if the immediate fix isn't to just create a mirror something else, like the multitude of package managers. Or Refind and Grub 2. Or Wayland, X11, Compiz, Xquartz, etc...
It's going to be bad. It's using the (mostly) same chip and same battery size as the Lenovo Legion Go and that has poor battery life. Not quite as bad as the ROG Ally, but still not good. Other than that though, it looks like a pretty nice device.
@@kirby21-xz4rx The Z1 Extreme is a 7840U with the NPU disabled. The 8840U is a 7840U (exact same performance) with a stronger NPU, hence the chips are pretty much the same in performance since you don't use the NPU for gaming. In fact, hardly anything uses the NPU right now as few applications need an AI accelerator. Perhaps do some reading, my friend.
@@Invid72 I do read and keep up on some things and I think I've heard that z1 extreme was close to or basically the the same as the 7840u I just didn't hear much about the 8840u that's all, but from what your telling me Im wondering Is it going to be the same performance or not idk?
I really hope you can review the VLINK or however it should be spelled. I want to know if it is just an app or if you’re essentially getting a mux between Tablet display or an external HDMI/DP-in which would be AMAZING as a 2nd display. If touch passes through would be a bonus too. 165Hz 2nd monitor (FreeSync is a bonus) for a beefier laptop or tablet mode for portable viewing would be awesome.
I'm sure this is all hardware and has nothing to do with software. The only issue I see is hooking up anything else other than a PC. The aspect ratio will throw this off so hopefully it will have a menu system to fix this like a traditional portable monitor. I have two portable monitors, one 17" 1440p and the other 18" 1600p, both at 165Hz w/ FS. I actually prefer my 17" as it will still output to 1080p on my Switch for example while on my 18" it would not work at all for some reason. Another example would be with a media dongle. On the 18" it would resort to 720p instead of outputting to 1080p as it's not a native 1080p screen. It's taking half of that 1440p resolution instead. Also with my 17" monitor I could use my mClassic to up covert anything to 1440p instead. So basically this probably won't be made for consoles so much unless it could output to 1440p like the PS5 or XSX. 16:10 is nice for PC use only imo. Also I wish the screen resolution was 1080p with these iGPUs at this time. Maybe in a few years we could do 1440p/1600p. Low quality graphics should always be an option, not a requirement. I do like myself a sharp display but 1080p isn't so bad still. It's only a 14" screen as well not a 16" so much.
Yea I hope he can review the VLINK in detail. Hoping it is hardware based that passes through the touch, ideally even the keyboard/trackpad when the typecover is attached. Edit: From their product page: Hot to activate the VLINK (DP-in video input) function? 1. Function description: VLink (DP-in) only supports the function of a portable display when the input device is connected to the VLink port of the V3 via the Type-C port when the power is off. This allows the video and audio signals from the input device to be displayed directly. 2. Function instructions: Power-on access: The DP-in function can be activated after the user is prompted to turn off the computer via the application in the Windows system. In sleep mode: The screen is on and the application in the Windows system prompts the user to enable the DP-in function after the computer is turned off. When switched off: The video/audio signals from the input device are displayed directly. So it is hardware based actually, and 'most likely' without touch/keyboard/trackpad forwarding.
@@unXpected well hopefully at least the FreeSync VRR will be via the hardware as well. That could make for an interesting bigger screen for anyone rocking a Steam Deck or other handhelds that want something larger to play on the go.
- 2K @165hz, 100% DCI-P3, 500 nit, 14" - DP in, SD card - 4096 pressure point, MPP 2.6 (as opposed to AES), I really hope the screen is accurate enough as a proper pen tablet, it would make a really good drawing tablet, and when the CPU goes out (performance wise), the DP input will really shine and prevent it from being e-waste. Would love to see how their stylus goes as well, at this price point (~$1000), it's likely going to be an incredible competitive drawing tablet.
Price point is $950 , the screen is supper color accurate, and even if the pen is bad you can use the RENAISSER Raphael 530, which is a super accurate or for artists to be use with MPP displays.
Can you please do a comparison of this tablet vs legion go in term of performance, battery, and daily use as desktop replacement, cost, and portability. Thank you!
Great tablet, but I wish you showed us more of the kickstand. That will make or break this tablet for me. It's important that it can hold itself at different angles. I wish it was integrated with a hinge like the Surface Pro.
This is pretty cool! I'm pretty happy with my Windows on Arm Robo & Kala 2-in-1 (not for hardcore gaming, of course, but everything else), and I've been anxiously awaiting Snapdragon X Elite devices, but this Minisforum V3 looks to be a near-peak x86-64 Windows tablet. The Vlink port is awesome and should be standard equipment on all AIO-type devices with decent displays!
Agreed! We get these beautiful 4k-class displays in that form factor but once the computer inside is obsolete it becomes basically ewaste. It's such a shame when the rest of the device is still fine.
Since it's marketed as an tablet device, it would be convenient for on the go travelers to have either a single or duel sim 5G/LTE simcard slot on the device to reduce the need for lugging around other devices in order to connect to your mobile carrier.
@@zenmaster24 Not on every plan, and the speeds are often worse than a native connection. Comparing my Thinkpad T14 on 5G vs a tethered hotspot to my phone on the exact same plan shows half the latency and about 10% more bandwidth if I use the built-in card and antenna.
@@DigitalJedi Renting a room in a house where the old landlord is one of the rare cases of EMHS (electromagnetic hyper sensitivity), thus WiFi is out of the question. Need a dedicated simcard slot like in other mobile tablets and phones. Lugging around a USB hub & an 5G/LTE USB dongle, then pulling out the simcard from the phone and inserting it into the dongle just to have a connection on the device when needed, then placing it back in the phone whenever I need to go into town will be bothersome. In my country, the mobile service providers that we have work best with a dedicated sim slot & bandwidth decreases through a USB tethered connection.
@@DigitalJedi sorry didnt realise you were in a country that didnt allow you to use your phone as a hotspot potentially. your bandwidth and latency discrepancy might suggest your phone isnt up to the task?
@zenmaster24 I would sincerely hope an S23+ is handling it just fine. I'm in the USA, and some phone plans just don't offer hotspot. Like the feature will just be greyed out in the settings.
Finally. A tablet with monitor input has been released. It's worth waiting for over 15 years. It's as great an improvement as the iPad 1 to me. It's perfect except there's no OCulink port.
For battery life you better off with an iPad or MacBook Air. Windows + x64 chips won’t give you long battery life. My Surface Pro 8 i5 lasts only about 30% of what my Samsung Android tablet lasts when web browsing and watching movies (and on web browsing or watching movies, the Samsung tablet is faster 😂)
@@ricarmig yeah i know but was still wondering xD. I plan on getting an x elite when it releases and running linux on it hopefully it will work fine :c
At around $900-1100 it competes pretty well with Surface devices by local pricing. If I was in the market for a portable PC right now this would be up there for sure.
This is going to open up some long time needed competition for MS Surface and take away some iPad customers . Just that cable second screen ability alone is pretty awesome , would love to know the battery life on it just with that in use too.
@@logify4220 I've had it for about 2 weeks now and it is awesome Fulfills my gaming , work and browsing needs. It has played Diablo 4, Path of Exile, Midnight Sun, and Street Fighter 6 perfectly fine. For SF6, I had to lower resolution down to 1200ish for the FPS to flow smooth. All the other games I played just worked on default settings
For these 16:10 displays, I think it makes more sense to play at 800p with integer scaling than say 900p like you did with Cyberpunk. I'd say it's 1600p native > 1600p with FSR > 800p depending on how demanding the game is.
165 hz screen 14 inch wow that is pretty nice wish they had like a android version of this with an ARM cpu platform where you could arm windows and android.
I see you're missing the point lol. I have a desktop laptop, steam deck and still going to get this for for the form factor. I canceled my one x player order to wait for a 3 in one amd. Now it's here, 1000 bucks is good
It will be close. Last year for Christmas I got my daughter a ROG Zephyrus with a Ryzen 9 and mobile 4060 installed for around 1,299 before tax. Around last month the same model was going for 999 before tax.
The tablet I really want it its portable, supports Windows, and is about the size of an iPad. I've used an iPad before, but the web browsing experience is kind of like a mobile view, and there are many other issues with it. If we open 3-4 websites in desktop view, it crashes and reloads repeatedly. Maybe it's due to its low RAM configuration causing this. However, this tablet could be an iPad killer if it's launched in a budget range, offering the same specs and configuration. So, definitely, the pricing would be very high for this tablet. Let's see what the launch will be like, but it's not going to be budget-friendly
I'm gonna take credit for this as I commented on minifourms video to send you a device. I take compensation in the form of hugs and rum. Great video as usual
From the specs alone, 32 gig of RAM, 2.5K Freesync with touch screen at that. Had this been a surface, lenovo yoga or anything from other established brands this wouldve cost 1500+ USD. Minisforum absolutely nailed a great job hardware-wise like most of their other products. That said the ideal target market of these device would also value highly the overall user experience + support and longevity. Something that doesn't resonate well (yet) with minisforum since they tend to create lots of similar products in such short space of time. I'm really keen to see how will they develop this aspect on the long run. Hopefully they'll keep innovating and bringing these types of devices to the market. Really happy for minisforum to dare and take a leap for now ❤ waiting for a more in depth review from you or other youtubers who got their hands on this device
Does this gets access to the BIOS? Or user replace-able m.2? Because I'm thinking 'This is interesting as a Ryzen Windows tablet but it could be *awesome* as a Ryzen Linux tablet instead'
@@kaeota I think that with user replaceable m.2 it might be possible at least as a transplant install (A distro with good detection might be able to boot into a usable state even if the OS was installed on a different rig altogether) but I think they just might allow BIOS update simply because even on windows you'd want BIOS level updates of the fan curve on a device that might be succeptible to overheating if a windows fan curve util crashes or something, I hope that's the case anyway.
I need an idea of how big the gap is between this tablet and let's say something running on a 8 gen 3 plus processor. That will really make things easy to understand. Like how many folds or how different the antutu scores are etc.
One way to solve the issue of ventilation with the kickstand is to use a hinged frame that fits snugly around the tablet. The hinge could be a mid-point allowing the tablet to be used as a tablet, thin laptop, in tent mode (or A-Frame mode), paired with an external higher resolution touch display that they also sell could also make it a dual touch screen mobile computer. The frame would have cutouts for the buttons, ports, etc.
$500!!!!! i swear people say things like they have good insight to costs. Similar to the "4090 gpu should be around $400 dollar" type of comments. reasonably interesting for a new top of the line cpu + 2k /100%p3/touchscreen monitor with pen support + 32g ram+ 2tb m.2. Not good or amazing but reasonably interesting as if the market is flooded with these and the cost is less than $400.
Would love to see productivity benchmarks! This seems like a tablet aiming more for actual professional users than some other fruit themed "pro" devices. Video editing, 3D rendering (cinebench is fine), Photoshop Lightroom exports...
5:33 I think you are using the stand wrong you should pull from the the top not the bottom and the bottom should stay attached, this is per a picture I saw on their website the camera cut out was on the bottom while standing.
Yes! This is great! Why? Buttons controllers wear over time and with this just use your Xbox/ps5 controller without worrying about the controllers on the handheld itself. I really like this I have the Rog ally but sometimes I would love a bigger screen and I’m good with my console controllers
Absolute amazing , that FPS on a Tablet. The question ist , what will it look Like when we have 2 nm Chips? I think that at some Point we can say bye bye to the Desktop pc
At 12:38 Dialogue versus on screen settings.... COD MW3: you say you're in performance mode and at 28w....but on screen you have it listing as balanced mode at 18w. Can you clarify which one was correct? Maybe put a pinned comment stating which one is correct?? Looks like a nice tablet I wished I could afford it....
minis forum geting even closer to my needs, i am sure i will buy in the feaature and this is the way to go , i am still waiting for a much more capable igpu from amd and i am sure minis will use it the right way
i say buy this! ios devices arent useable once ios isnt supported no work around. while android and windows will have longer support esp windows. if android isnt supported its always easy to install older versions of apps. so androids and windows are way to go
Just saw the pre-order webpage of this tablet goes live. For a standard RRP of $1,499 with keyboard included in the box, that is seriously good value. Microsoft would charge an extra $1,100 for Intel Core i7 version with similar 32GB RAM and 1TB storage trim, and you still have to pay more for the keyboard. P.S I know the tablet is selling for $1,199 at this time of writing and you get the stylus bundled as well, but it's a pre-order promotion which won't last long.
This is the best solution for a retro gaming unit plus a head unit for my native instruments maschine setup. I'm way too sold on this. This with the Komplete keyboard is so perfect.
I'm pretty sure you're supposed to fold the top half of the back cover down as the stand. That's how they showed it in the preview videos they've released, and that keeps it from blocking the intake!
I'm one of the few weirdos who still use windows tablet daily, more precisely a dell latitude 5175. I like having full desktop OS on a tablet, plus with a keyboard and a dock it works as a full on laptop with a normal hinge. What I like the most about x86 based tablets is the freedom you have in terms of what OS you can run, you can run windows, Linux, or even chrome OS or android if you want something more touch friendly. x86 tablets can last a way longer than an arm tablet with usually only 3 years of software updates. This minisforum tablet looks amazing, its a modern spin on a type of device that hasn't been popular in a while. I just wish it was smaller, 10.8" or 11.6" screen is where its at imo, 14" screen is just too big and loses all appeal of a tablet in my opinion. I'm also not a fan of the folio keyboard, it would be awesome if they offered a normal solid keyboard with a built in battery, ports and a normal laptop style hinge like the dell venue/latitude or ThinkPad helix models.
Honestly, if this thing had a decent GPS antenna/chip - however that works and an Oculink port + optional EGPU dock.. absolutely the most perfect setup. I would take it with me everywhere.
I've been looking forward to the V3 tablet's release and extremely interested in purchasing in one. It is on sale in China now, and they plan to ship retail unis to US, UK and Europe by end April. If you look at Minisforum's website V3 pictures, you are supposed to fold the top half of the V3's rear stand down, so you don't cover the air vents, and not fold out the lower half of the stand. I am surprised Microsoft initially released the Surface Pro 10 with the lack lustre Core Ultra 5 & 7 U series processors, as these have only half the graphics X-cores and 4 less CPU cores of the H series processor. An AMD 8840U option would have made more sense, though the Surface Pro 10 should also get the much stronger Snapdragon X Elite arm64 processor H2 2024, where its NPU / AI processor alone is 45 TOPS!
I love my Minisforum UM773 Mini PC I got after watching your review last year. As soon as the V3 gets released in the US, I will have one of these also. Thanks for the great reviews!
One unique combo is that pen input and high-refresh display on a tablet -- are there any other devices with this combo? Really looking forward to seeing what the pen latency is on this thing. Also, major kudos for having displayport inputs!
Hi, artist here, I use devices with pen input on a daily basis, not even Microsoft Surface 10 have this hight refresh rate. This is probably the best screen for MPP to date. That being said MPP is very prone to jitter when drawing slow diagonal lines, it has improved with MPP2.6 (the version used by Minisforum V3) so the line quality line will come down the the pen itself, if it the first party pen is bad you can always try with the RENAISSER Raphael 530 Stylus, or the official Microsoft's Slim pen 2.
