These conflicts are both my favorite and my most disliked, because neither side is really in the wrong. Kageyama wants Hinata to become a better all around player by focusing on his shortcomings, while Hinata wants to polish his one skill to the absolute limit. It's also interesting that Kageyama, Sugawara and Coach Ukai (all setters) end up sharing the same opinion because they don't quite have a spiker's perspective on what HInata is describing.

Hintata & Kageyama fight and squabble all the time... but the way this one is written and animated, you can tell this isn't the same. They really have opposite viewpoints on what the next steps are and both 100% believe they are right. I find both viewpoints understandable to be honest and it's heartbreaking see a rift between them. But it's so realistic to working with other people, whether it's sport or a creative work-- when you have a fundamental disagreement on something important it can become a MASSIVE issue immediately. It only becomes a bigger deal because of how closely aligned the two are. Fucking amazing show, never stops being top tier. Best anime ever.

14:16 this comment too. hinata is great at socializing and making friends. but his relationship with kageyama is not even a friendship per se, but a partnership fueled by their passion and love for volleyball. kageyama was the first one to acknowledge hinata's potential (although probably not his full potential as one individual weapon) and worked with him whenever he asked for extra tosses, stayed after practice together and all. so it hurts more

Both have their pov but I agree with Hinata more here. Suga, ukai, and kageyama are all setters so they can't see Hinata as a spiker point of view. And I know kageyama is trying to tell Hinata not to be selfish but at the same time he was like saying 'just do like we used to because i'm here and just do what I said'
@erict1628

Not only that. Suga is a decent setter, but not great one. Ukai was a backup setter. As great as Kageyama is, he still doesn't know how to bring out the best out of his spikers. That is why I also agree with Hinata in this conflict.

It‘s extremely risky to try something new instead of working on something you already can do + improving in serving blocking receiving (everything hinata is weak at at this point). Plus im not sure how much time there is before the tournament.

conflict, like everything else in haikyuu, is so well written you can see both points and agree to some extent. i'm obviously on hinata's side for this one but as Rise said, they're short on time. the tournament is just around the corner, they need to take the most advantage of this training camp as a team and maybe not focus on individual completely new skills. bc that can and will throw off the balance of the team, like kageyama said. which is not necessarily a bad thing and it's actually necessary for growth. but again, they don't have time on their side. (also, to note, kageyama was probably projecting a bit here too with the whole "your selfishness will throw off the balance of the team" bc that's what got him benched and ostracized in the first place when he was in middle school.) you can also see ukai's inexperience as a coach as well. man's trying his absolute best, bless him, but the uncertainty is palpable. 14:04 i love that you know the characters so accurately at this point lmao. with hinata too. y'all understood that he was coming from a place of wanting to be better and not purely selfish greed. and you also noted from previous episodes some changes in his attitude/mindset that lead to this moment. this is definitely the season of evolution. can't wait for y'all to see how all of this pays off

Idk if anyone commented this but at 3:44 I think the coach got shades on cause they got lit asf the night before with Tanakas sister 😭 the lil details in the show always make me smile cause it’s such a small and almost unnecessary detail to have but it adds a level of realism cause lik these grown folks on a work vacation they tryna have fun too

It’s so cool how you can see both perspectives. Kageyama is taking the more team-oriented and Hinata is taking the more self-improvement view (opposite from the usual perspectives they take), yet they’re both right and wrong in my opinion. I lean towards Kageyama’s side because it makes more sense for the time frame and their unstable team even though, under ideal circumstances, Hinata would be right.

Everyone diverging here is gonna get fucking lit and I've always appreciated this episode for showing disagreement to the point of an actual fight because both points are valid but equally important and how a team like this can get seriously shaken up by the typical shounen ambition of 'I'm going to be the best'

I really like this episode, it brings out the fear/greed/the uncertainty so clearly, it's a problem that they will be facing no matter what timing is it. Haikyuu always do that, there will be more growth that are surprising and realistic and so different in each character, so interesting to watch, I really like the way you all discuss, and I think you guys will like what future Haikyuu brings ! 🏐 ( I had finish the manga, high quality story till the end CONFIRM ! )

The thing is Kageyama is absolutely right on this one. Hinata is not a "good" player we have to remember that he has no prior experience & no formal training. He can't receive. He can't block. All he has is raw athletic capabilities & stamina. He is able to score all those points bc Kageyama is there. Realistically if Hinata is on any other team than Karasuno he won't be a starter player. Kageyama is not telling Hinata to not grow what he is saying is "why level up an already maxed out skill when there are other skills you need to level up?" Basically in gaming terms Hinata has 0 basic attack then maxed out burst. That's also why Hinata feels so strongly about their quick attack needing to evolve bc if he can't score with it then he has no reason to be on the court. He needs it.
@erict1628
@erict1628 3 месяца назад
Nah, Kageyama is completely wrong on this one. Hinata is right. The fact that you said "maxed out skill" shows that you don't even understand the situation. This so-called "maxed out skill" has been completely rendered useless by several teams. That's the reason Hinata needs to develop his spiking skills. It's true that Hinata pretty much sucks as a volleyball player, but he can get by with being bad at receiving because he'll be switched out for Noya when he's in the back row anyway. What's important is that he can attack NOT using the freak quick set.
@dtvten2532
@dtvten2532 3 месяца назад
@@erict1628The problem is Hinata didn’t initially approach it as just improving his spiking skills in general, he just wanted to be able to hit the freak quick with his eyes open. Suga even outright suggested that he polish his other attacks instead so it’s not as if they didn’t want him working on his offense at all. It wasn’t until Hinata met grandpa Ukai that he started to focus on actually improving his overall spiking fundamentals. All he was doing before that was forcing Kageyama to just keep spamming freak quicks until he could hit them. It’s no wonder why Kageyama thought Hinata was being selfishly unrealistic and that his goal was a fools errand
@erict1628
@erict1628 3 месяца назад
@@dtvten2532 But that's not what the issue here, though. The conflict between Kageyama and Hinata is that Kageyama doesn't want Hinata to develop his attacks, but to work on his serves and receives instead. The bigger issue is that the setters (Kageyama and Suga) didn't explain to Hinata HOW to work on his spikes. They both understand tempos, but they didn't explain to him about it. The issue with Kageyama is that he wants to control the sets. That's what caused the rift between him and his middle school hitters. The current partnership with Hinata is that Kageyama ALWAYS control the set, and as we find out in the next episode, that's the completely wrong way to go about it.
@dtvten2532
@dtvten2532 3 месяца назад
@@erict1628 Kageyama says right before their fight that Hinata should be working on his other attacks AS WELL as serving and blocking. Suga says the same thing earlier. This idea that everyone just wanted Hinata to stop developing his offense in general is completely false. Their problem was with Hinata’s hyperfixation on controlling the freak quick specifically, something that they had no reason to believe was realistically achievable. From their perspective Hinata was too obsessed with the freak quick and they feared that it would lead him to neglect other aspects of his game while ultimately resulting in failure. This very well could have ended up being the case had it not been for grandpa Ukai. Don’t forget that just before all of this Hinata straight up tried to steal a toss from their ace. Hinata has shown multiple times in the past a tendency to overfocus on being flashy and being the star. Now he wants to take his strongest move and wrest control completely into his own hands despite the sheer difficulty of this goal and him still being subpar at every other aspect of his game. Kageyama and the others have every reason to be apprehensive that Hinata may be getting carried away due to his ambitions.

I absolutely support Hinata. The entire team is telling “don’t get better, just do things the way you know how even though people at higher levels have ways to stop your only use”. Hinata isn’t just joking around with his desire to be a top player, you can’t get better if you don’t take risks and lets everyone else’s needs go above your own. Thats a lesson Hinata taught me and I’ll always stick beside it
@CasualGamer669

His team say your based skill is worse than everyone so practice that more. And hinata say if he can't make a quick attack work his have no value in the court. Hinata is more selfish than the team but haikyuu say if you want to be good you need to be selfish. Trying antagonize the team is stupid. They both have valid point
@maikcampbell
@maikcampbell 3 месяца назад
@@CasualGamer669 close but I don’t agree fully. Hinata is taking a shortcut to competing right now. He knows it AND his team knows it. If the team cared about his overall journey as an athlete and competitor they could have benched him and forced him to learn the basics. But that’s not what happens. Hinata AND the team have no choice but to use him now because they are so close to nationals with the third years. The issue here is, the team wants Hinata to focus on attacks he can use with his limited fundamentals (not basics) while Hinata wants to learn new abilities without grinding fundamentals (continuing to make shortcuts for competing). You’re right that no one is fully wrong here. And you’re right that Hinata is being selfish…but the team is also being selfish by choosing consistency and balance over Hinata’s own development. Again like I said, Hinata wants to be a professional athlete. Competing is a grind he cannot stop whatsoever and he takes it very seriously just like Kageyama or Ushiwaka, people just don’t believe him because he doesn’t have the volleyball background and fundamentals to make it seem believable.

Tension was palpable on this episode , unfortunately , to be successful and really improve as players and as a team, they really have to go through stuff like this … Hinata needs to improve so he can become a better asset to the team, but as long as he can't make the play correctly, Kageyama can't toss the ball to him on real matches. Also the scene where Hinata tries to steal the ball from Asahi was great, you could feel the tension surrounding Karasuno.

about difference with new attack what Hinata want and old attacks they do Hinata cant time his jump and hit with a ball at quick attack because he is not a very good player and Kageyama`s tosses are at insane speed, not a single player before could hit his quick toss. so they created an attack with Hinata`s eyes closed. he just jump and swing at max speed, and Kageyama just put the ball where his hand goes. Its their "freak quick" But Hinata cant control it. It worked earlier, but you cant win against a really good team just with speed. some blockers stopped it anyway, and Oikawa`s team even stopped it without any block at all because Hinata can hit it only in one direction everytime, so libero just wait there. So Hinata want to do the same - maximum speed of his jump + maximum speed of Kageyama`s toss, but with opened eyes so he can control it and attack around the block or libero. Not just because he want to see the moment of attack 🙂 He wants to fight himself, not just to jump. So pov of Kageyama, coach and others is absolutely right for them - it looks impossible for any player to hit that fast toss, especially for Hinata. He is still a bad player, only thing he have is speed and jump.

This quarrel of Kageyama and Hinata is too realistic for me that I tend to tear up when I watch it. You don't like seeing your fave duo or friends squabble like that :( I think everyone has already said it but I do want to emphasize that the ones who advised Hinata were setters: Sugawara, Kageyama and even Coach Ukai. So, they can't completely grasp Hinata's POV as a spiker. I agree with both where Hinata and Kageyama are coming from, but more on Hinata's cause after that defeat with Seijoh and their quicks being blocked, he needs to grow or try something better (as well as the team). Especially when they're gonna face bigger opponents. As for Kageyama's pov, yes Hinata REALLY needs to improve in other areas like serving and receiving. In the earlier eps of Season 1 when Kageyama said that "with him" Hinata and the team can score points, I actually thought what if there comes a time they would go their separate ways or compete with each other. The other will not always be their setter or spiker. All the more Hinata made a point that he needs to grow as a player without always relying on Kageyama's tosses.
