I kept saying "that's not fair" to myself when she mentioned his anxiety attack but let's not forget about Randall's angry voicemail. What's so amazing about this show is the realness, we all have those moments. I don't think there is a good guy or bad guy here just 2 people who are in the thick of it and need to pull themselves out. Hopefully together ❤

Man that was the most beautiful argument I have ever seen between a man and a woman. No one called anyone an obscene curse word,no punches thrown. Wow. He should support Beth and respect that she is an individual as well as a wife, mother, friend and councilor.

The biggest mistake Beth did was bring the anxiety attacks into the argument. She realized the error after she said it. It's ok to have arguments but it's not ok to use one's weakness to attack them.

I have anxiety attacks, and it's a real fight. But Beth is right. I think it's really hard to live with an anxious person. And Randall always wants to be perfect and has fantaisies. He forgets Beth's dream and what she does for him (William/Kevin/flat/politics). It's a deep argue but necessary. For each side.

I think they are equally to blame for what is wrong in their marriage.

This scene was so freakin fire!!!!!! The dialogue was AMAZING!!! The performances were heart wrenching.. and The anxiety comment was relevant becasue she deals with alot.. but when he needs space he doesnt let her have it.. bit we all say things in the heat of the moment and this was one of those times.

The transition to Rebecca and jack arguing makes the scene even more intense

Listen, I don't think Beth was wrong for saying what she said about his anxiety attacks. She meant it. It's the same thing she said after tonight's episode (March 3,2020), almost a year later: "I'm afraid that if I put any more weight on you, you'll crack." Basically what she's saying is 'there's no room for me in this relationship.' and ironically that's what she said about her mother.. There's no air around her mother.

This hits me so hard! 😭I've done everything for my husband. Now he's accomplished and has everything he ever wanted, but I gave up my job, left my country, adapted to any lousy job I could find just to be close to him and support him but I'm still waiting for my moment to shine. I feel like I lost myself on the way...

This ‘R&B’ episode is one of the finest in the series. From script to performance - it’s beautifully raw. It’s refreshing to watch the messiness of a relationship unfold on-screen. Brilliant work by everyone involved in the telling of this story!

Damn when Randall turned around and said "no" was so smooth

Beth saying the anxiety attack thing was dumb for so many reasons, mostly because it made her the villain and him the martyr when they both have valid complaints and are at fault for the issues in their marriage.

I’m team Beth - she has made so many sacrifices for Randall time and time again. Why do we always want the women to drop everything for their family?

I have anxiety and Panic Attacks/Anxiety Attacks but I completely agree with Beth. Randall is constantly taking on new challenges and fighting for new dreams and where does that leave Beth? She’s always on the sidelines and the one time that Beth has something she is passionate about, it just has to be about Randall. I just don’t think it’s fair at all. I feel like he’s constantly making things about him and he completely forgets how his actions could affect Beth, he never takes anyone’s feelings into consideration.

What makes this beautiful is that they pushed through and found solutions because they loved one another. Everyone has their dream and life is complicated.

Damn, what a scene. This was real. This was awesome. You felt this. Sterling K. Brown and Susan Kelelchi Watson played this scene very well. Scenes like this is what makes great television. This scene should go down as one of the best in television history. I would put this up there with some of the best husband and wife fights in television history..Arthur Findlay slaps Maude, Alicia Florrick asking Peter for a divorce on The Good Wife are the two that stand out in my mind.

Honestly this fight is just... it's rare. You don't ever see a fight between a married couple without violence or yelling or any filthy tricks to justify breaking a relationship apart. There was no fear in either of them that things would go out of control. I absolutely adore how Beth would not stand down. From the very beginning she was bending. After having an epiphany that changed EVERYTHING for her, she deserved to get it. The anxiety attacks was a low blow but in all honesty, Randall did it first so I don't really blame her. She wanted to both hurt him and also prove her point with the most powerful punch. It was just too powerful And I love Randall but man, she is right. He made all these choices that are good but he never sought to actually discuss how this would affect the relationship. He left it to 'love finds a way' which is what he has always done. I really hope someone was listening in, Annie is the one I would want to the most. She is way too removed from the serious parts of the narrative (which is good since she is so young) but now that it's season 4 she needs to get some serious stuff. Plus it is a good way to parallel with young Randall, especially since she is such a daddy's girl.

the speech that went through my mind during this episode: NONONONONONONONONONONONO I WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS. RANDALL PULL YOUR STUFF TOGETHER AND BEND LIKE BETH NEED AND BETH APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE INSENSITIVE WORDS AT THE END. YOU WILL STAY TOGETHER AND YOU WILL ACT LIKE YOU GOT SOME SENSE.

Between Beth and Randall and Charlie and Nicole both are the best verbal fights I’ve ever seen.

Both of them play the role in what’s wrong to be honest, Beth needs to be more ambitious and Randall needs to be more understanding of Beth’s dreams. I feel if they both discussed how they both can achieve what they want and find a balance they would be fine. Marriage is a partnership not a competition.

I know most people are going to say "not everything is about gender bla bla bla...", but in this case, it kinda is as well. The Pearsons have been internalizing traditional gender norms ever since Rebecca stayed home to care for her 3 kids. Its funny how This is Us never really explicitly discuss about gender norms when the main characters seem to have quite rigid ideas of it (Jack, Toby, Randall). They discussed about a lot of things (racism, body image issues, depression, addiction, coming out, etc.), but not gender norms or sexism in general.

As someone who has had anxiety my whole life had panic attacks since I was seven, stemming from nothing specific what she said about his panic attacks was absolutely called for. You don't get to use mental illness or issues as an excuse as long as you refuse to even try to get out for them..

funny thing is, when it was rebecca and jack's fight, randall totally blamed jack.

Beth is is stronger than anyone on the show.

As someone who has severe anxiety, it is extremely draining on your partner. I personally don’t hold her at fault for feeling the overwhelmingness it’s tough dealing with the anxiety let alone loving someone who has severe anxiety.

I can see my man being a Randall. He's amazing and I pray I have the patience of Beth

Amazing acting.

Randall always wanted all the things HIS way. He gets angry whenever things go different then he wanted them to be. She put up with every whim of his. She wants something for herself for the first time in this marriage. And Randall can't see past the inconveniences he has to face.

Beth; Toby and even Miguel to some extent will never understand what that family has been through Jack was their life force and without him their world fell apart Randall got the worst of it He wanted to be the rock of his family but in Beth he saw someone he can lean on too But using his "anixety attacks" made Randall realize that being like Jack has its problems and that is you dont often get to lean on someone Jack kept things till his dying breath And Randall who come closest to him but his trauma catches up to him everytime He just walked out because the one person who knew how he has to deal with his issues used that point just to hurt him That kind of broke his sappy world apart

Knowing the decades they evolved through their old roles make sense as do the new twists and turns. Just got to find an evolved way to co-exist.

My favorite part of this episode was when Beth didn't let Rebecca put her input on her conversation with Randall.

oof this argument was so well carried out through the season. also-- beth bringing up the anxiety attack was a low blow, but randall's voicemail was also low so i think that blame is shared i just love both of them and im so glad they found a compromise / solution for things T . T

I'm team Randall. Beth had her chances to go for her dreams, but I think she just lacked courage. So it's easier to blame Randall for everything despite the fact that he is really understanding ant supportive man. It seems she is a bit jealous because her husband had that courage to do what he want. And the scene in the store showed that she was just too afraid to do what she want.

You’re responsible for communicating your desires and frustrations. You built a facade on being the “head of the household” but it was a lie because you were really keeping your real feelings bottled up and now you’re holding him responsible for that. Sorry, Team Randall on this one.

I hated this fight. Felt like there were my parents fighting

As someone with a depression and anxiety disorder, I’m on Beth’s side here. The anxiety attacks comment wasn’t even out of line. It is so easy to lose yourself in taking care of someone else. Randall had a panic disorder, and she felt like she had to hold everything together while he was spinning out. It’s a very valid point.

Aghh Beth is so annoying, I think she always wants to be in control in their relationship, honestly she is the only character in this series that I don't like at all, and yes, I know that Randall has made mistakes too, but I just don't tolerate her.

Randall deserved everything Beth said

Marriage is about sacrifices and submitting one to another. She is complaining about being a wife by supporting her husband. People don't realize the Marriage makes two people one. There is no my dream or yours but ours. When one shines so will the other. It's a team effort in all you do not an individual. Men support their wives at times and sometimes wives support their husband. Society has got people messed up. My wife helps me with my career and I help her with hers. She as a business that I help her with and when that business becomes successful, I'll probably quit my job and tag team on it. The point of success Is to love comfortable with little to no financial problems. If he is successful and you help him get there then it's your success also.

I hate Beth now. Kate was always the worst for me but Beth knocked her off that first place seat. Beth had a long time to decide what to do with herself but she waited to take her mommy issues out all those years later. She choose to make the decisions she did, no one forced her hand but yet she plays the victim. Her comment about his attacks is what made me completely hate her.

Randall is selfish

Randall is delusional and arrogant which is why it makes perfect sense that we find out in the final that he’s a democrat senator.

Beth is the worst. She had their whole marriage to become a dancer but she waited till he was on the city council and they have 3 daughters to decide to start teaching dance classes at night.

The level of utter disregard this female character has for her own children and husband is sad. It's painted as some crusade of self discovery but no one forced her to sacrifice or make her life choices, She CHOSE these things. Yet complains and expects everyone else around her to cater to her because she made them. This is a typical action of modern day females. Always unhappy, always needy and always expecting everyone else to pay for their choices and say nothing. Mind you she is the one who pushed Randal to go into politics and run, then punishes him, chastises him and tries to force him to quit when she doesn't like what's happening and is feeling like there is too much pressure on her to be alone at home with the kids she chose to have and wanted. But expects him to be the main source of income, take care of the kids, be a husband and never complain or expect anything from her so she can pursue a career he never even knew she wanted and hit him with out of the blue, but that he supported her doing, FULLY. Such a double standard. I guess she forgot their entire relationship has been this guy totally catering to her every whim and being dominated in every instance where issues come up in their marriage. I guess she glossed over or totally forgot how he hired her as a team member on his campaign because she couldn't find work and was feeling useless and overwhelmed. She orders him around like he is her servant, its just such an unhealthy dynamic. The message to guys is clear, either worship a female and never challenge her ultimate authority, never have any expectations of her in a relationship or pay the consequences. You have no say or decision making ability in what she does or how it effects your family and children, let alone you. And if you don't fully submit with no opinions or say, you are a selfish non supportive husband and father for not letting her do as she pleases regardless of how it costs anyone else. Yep. looks like an ideal to me...if you're a female. What any male would get out of this is beyond me. It looks like a horrid way to live. This sends a clear message that being a nice guy and being a good man and husband gets you stomped on and disregarded as irrelevant. Not a good look. I like her character less and less each episode she is featured in.
