I agree, but wish to add that a lot of the flaws were created by the grief of losing Jack. That’s when their weaknesses were magnified (Kevin’s drinking, Kate’s weight gain, Randall’s depression.). The rest of the series seems to be about coping, floundering, navigating shaky relationships, and in building new strengths, and finding love and bittersweet peace.

Also speaking of perfect, aren't those usually the people who are imperfect. P.s. - all 3 characters were amazing but Kevin's edges it due to having to grow up the most. Glad Kev made it :)

i've never seen a show so utterly realistic --every single character is so perfectly flawed and multi-faceted. They all feel like such real people, such real stories.

I think that the Pearsons only look too perfect because of all the love. that love is out there, in this world, for you.

Just remember it's about the love. The Pearsons aren't so perfect. Jack was the son of an alcoholic. Jack was an alcoholic. He saw war. He was sergeant in war and came back with PTSD. He watched his brother lose hope. He watched his father abuse his mother. His father abused him too. He grew up poor, and Kevin also struggled with addiction. His dad died while they were fighting. He was overlooked in childhood. Randall felt too seen as a child. He was bullied by his brother growing up. He felt the absence of his birth parents. He lost his dad soon after meeting him to cancer. He was always so riddled with anxiety. Kate has struggled with an ED most of her life. She felt inadequate next to her mother, who was always right there. She was in an abusive relationship. She had to have an abortion, alone. She blamed herself for her father's death. Rebecca was always right there, pushing down her own grief. She lost a child. She lost her husband. They're all living without someone so important that sometimes they don't know if they can live without him at all. Kevin and Randall have said things to each other that you would think are unforgivable, but love heals.. Jack relapsed in his addiction and almost lost his family for it, but love conquers. It was love that brought Jack back. It was his love for Rebecca and her love for him. Don't forget it's about the love. Don't forget it's out there. It's human.

I have this really crazy theory but it makes a lot of sense. So if you remember we see the flash forward with old Randell entering Rebecca’s room where she’s on her death bed in EPISODE 18 of Season 3, the finale. And then you see in the flash forward again, that old Kevin entering Rebecca’s room where she is in her death bed in EPISODE 18 of Season 4, the finale. Now we all know how This Is Us likes to keep us on our edge of the seat with the absolute crazy arcs they draw. So, I believe that maybe Kate lives, but is probably divorced. She would enter the room in the finale episode, that is EPISODE 18 of Season 5. And what’s even more crazy would be - that - we all know that THIS IS US would end with Season 6. So, maybe - in the finale episode, that is Episode 18 of Season 6 - every single person of the family - The Big Three, their partners and their kids would all be present beside Rebecca who would finally pass away then - brining us to a very emotional but a very satisfying end. God, I am already crying right now. Literally. Where’s the tissue!
