Great tool. I was testing an old house with only a hot and neutral wire (no ground wire) and it will not check polarity. I called Klein Tech support and they confirmed it in their test lab and called me back within 30 minutes. Excellent support from Klein.

Standard testers are powered by the outlet. They are limited to a milliampere or so or they'd trip a GFCI. They pass the current to the ground. If the outlet is not grounded and has a metal plate touching the plate can sting. If you pressed the test button it would hurt. Making that to work without batteries would be hard. They would have to add a power supply to it. The thing is designed to work with 3 V DC so it cannot be directly ran at 120 V AC

I wish Klein Tools made outlet testers like that for 240v receptacles.

He’s right about the auto hold being the “best feature.” This is especially useful when you’re testing receptacles that are ground up. 1:49

Thanks!! I’ve been really focusing a lot more on upping my overall video quality and trying to make each video better than the last. This is my first time doing those spec callouts, so it’s cool somebody noticed! Thanks for watching! ⚡️

I love this tool. I have a question can my neutral and hot be reversed and still power up my outlets? Because my travel trailer reads the is the case and it reads that I have less than 30, but everything still works when I plug in. This is the case with every outlet in have in my travel trailer, but they all work. Now when I put the one on that shows if it’s wired correctly it shows that every outlet is wired correctly. That’s why I’m asking because I’m confused as to which one is correct. Thank you in advance

This will not tell you voltage drop because voltage drop is dependant on Load. 2*LKI/CM=VD I=intensity, or amperage or load. In this equation, the higher I is, the higher the voltage drop is. That little 2 AAA battery powered device is not pulling barely anything that would demand enough to drop voltage. You would likely need thousands of feet of wire to see something of a drop.

Plug a load (exp. electric space heater) into the other open receptacle, note the voltage difference with the heater turned on and off...

I have actually ran into some major inconsistencies with this model. An inspector used this model and called us out for open ground/neutral. We bought 2 to test with. Between fluke, ideal, other klein testers, and a fluke 87 v we determined something was wrong with his tester. With the two we bought one was very inconsistent and one was working fine. With the inconsistent one we could test the same gfci recept multiple times and get multiple results. Typically the open ground/ neutral. Keep in mind with what i said that other more reputable meters and testers did not indicate an open neutral or ground. Just my experience

I bought one of these about 6 months ago. Use it all the time. It's a great add to my set of testing tools. I also have a circuit tracer that I use often. A great time saver as well.

I would love it if it can indicate in some way if there is a high voltage between neutral-ground. it reads out individual values of hot-neutral, hot-ground, and neutral-ground?
@okaro6595
@okaro6595 Месяц назад
That is basically what all testers do. Though standard testers simply have the lights between. the wires.

You should do some work vlogs. I’m not saying film every second of every day. (Because you might get in trouble lmao) but If your doing something at work that you might think is interesting, film it and guide us through your trouble shoot process or something. I’m curious what your average work day is like. Love these vids. I’ll hopefully be in this career in the next 3 months.

learned a few things since i haven't used all the features yet, but the only thing i dont like is that you have to turn it on to use it. like you said, it would be nice if you just plugged it in and it worked.
@AnthonyChukreyev
@AnthonyChukreyev Год назад
The thing I like about it is it has integrated voltage reading. BUT. That information isn’t particularly useful if it doesn’t read out individual values of hot-neutral, hot-ground, and neutral-ground. Does it do that?

You're*. This is literally taught in public elementary schools. Also, they're is they are, their is possessive, and there for everything else. I'd use proper quotations, but it's not worth my time. The number of uneducated Americans I see is just too much.

I was wondering how you would start off being an electrician. I’m 17 with a GED and i’ve recently started looking at the trades and electrical really struck me. Not really familiar with how an application process would be for that type of work.
@vkproductions342

Hey Stephen, I really enjoy your channel as it has helped me and others tremendously. I finished the application process and interviewed last week. I was not selected into the class that starts in July, but I was placed on an active waiting list without a rank. Were you originally placed on a waiting list? If so, how long did it take for you to get accepted? Any tips/advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Best, Vincent

Just passed my test, have the interview in March. Do I get to select what contractor I want to work with? My brother in law knows a owner and he said he could get me in with his company. Is that an option or do I have to go work where the union sends me?
@MadElectrician
@MadElectrician Год назад
Congrats bro! Typically the IBEW will assign you to a contractor and you won’t have much of a say. That being said, if a contractor specifically requests you, they might be able to get you on ⚡️

Hey man, this is unrelated to the video, but I was wondering if I would be accepted into local 48 since I am blue green color blind. I'm currently in college, but don't really want an office job, so I'm really interested in the trade, but I don't want to drop out and realize I can't be an electrician due to being moderately color blind. Absolutely love your videos.

What if you connect to an outlet with 220v? Does the meter have a protection fuse? or it just can read the 220 without any issue?

Hi, just i need your help please, I'm a new immigration in USA and wanted to join that trade but i only have a couple of questions and hope you answer me in details, please. 1- Do you think working as an electrician will be In incompletely built places, such as unfinished buildings (on red bricks), or will the work be in fully built and ready places, which will make your work environment visually beautiful, such as working in hospitals and buildings open to receiving people? 2- Portland is very difficult in the winter, it is all rainy. Do you think that working as an electrician will make me work in the rain and be exposed to snow and so on? I know that you will sometimes have to stand in the rain, but I am here speaking in general or 70% of your work. Is it outside in the rain, or is it mostly indoors most of the time? Thanks ❤

How does it test the GFCI? Does it send some current to the ground plug when the button is pushed?
@okaro6595
@okaro6595 Месяц назад
That is what they do. They put a resistor between the hot and the ground That requires the ground is connected. Do not test with an open ground. If the plate is metal and you touch it you will get shocked.

Will this trip a regular plug circuit?
@okaro6595
@okaro6595 Месяц назад
Ah how much I hate the word "regular" as it has no objective meaning. It trips a GFCI. It does not trip a breaker. You cannot test breakers. That would be like testing car airbags.

@madelectrician Hope you get this as I wasn’t fast enough to reply before. I think if you offered private consultation for people coming up like yourself and it was accessible I would 100% sign up. At this point your time is really worth something however… I can’t see this as anything other than a passion project. Power to you if that’s what it is man. As a fan I know I’m selfishly defending the passion I see you have. I came from a service sales background and I have seen some of the best fall into the trap of selling out the heart of what they do. Sucks to see. Your reply and removal of that last poll showed a genuine concern that you want to really help and stay true to your very mission statement on this channel. I’ll keep an eye out for any help getting into this trade you may offer in the future and thank you for the thoughtful reply. 🙏🏻
