Rachel could escape clap loop with throw tech into wind. I remember netplay Carls just ragequitting whenever I escaped it because that was all they knew.
You ever see petshop in jojo's? No cap, Everyone is stuck playing a fighting game while that bird is flying around playing Galaga. And he has unblockables, and he falls out of combos cause he's a tiny ass bird, and can't be hit with most lows.
I don't think Carl is quite as good as you say. The main reason is I'm pretty sure Racheal (another top tier) could just escape his unblockable so Carl had an awful matchup vs her. However Racheal wasn't an easy character to just pick up as a secondary.
fun fact, Carl was put in bottom tier with Tager for the first few weeks because his basic tools were so bad in this version, but then they found his ToD lol
Also, the Rachel matchup was still like 8-2 Rachel even afterwards because she was the only (good) character that could escape the infinite meterless and Carl just had nothing outside of his ToD, lul
I played Carl during the CT days. I got 2nd place at Final Round with Another Carl in Grand Finals.. Use to play LK back in the day. And I fully acknowledged that he was stupid. I never saw Dio do the throw loop and as a result he didn't win as much as some of the other Carl's lol. Carl was still good without it.
Nirvana (the doll) was a magic weapon, because BlazBlue has magic, Carl's dad came to have it somehow and used his daughter's soul to fix and improve it as a test. It worked, so he made his own version, called The Detonator Ignis, using the soul of his wife. Relius Clover gives zero fucks.
At least those characters were still beatable, even if it was incredibly difficult to do. Ivan Ooze In Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Editions still retains the title of most broken playable fighting game character. That beautiful floating purple man had a move than made him invincible on frame 1, shot out multiple projectiles that tracked you, has almost no recovery and could be used when he's in hitstun. Even Petshop in jojo doesn't hold a candle to him.
Were people really putting Carl above Rachel? Carl was crazy but you could play around it, Rachel just throwing crap at you until your guard broke (causing them to literally change how guard breaks worked from then on) was the real soul-crushing shit.
this is why i said to this new fg community "have you ever seen a real broken character" . this super broken character you currectlly experiencing now is a joke compared to past broke character.. except if your game is tekken 7
Every time you talk about broken characters or underpowered characters or lopsided matchups it's BlazeBlue and it just makes me wonder why anyone ever played this game
CT Arakune and Rachel were disgusting too, I played CT Arakune and would consistently rob people with ease from 1 wrong guess. CS came out and I switched to Hazama instantly and never looked back
Carl is another example apart from Akira in VF where I don't think being hard to play is a free pass to have broken ass stuff. Can't stand this character.
CT was one of the first fighting games I ever played and I will never forget going to Anime Boston and just getting BODIED by a Carl player. I hadn't even played the game online and didn't really know how to find crazy vids of this game so it blew my mind.
In BBCP, FRKZ was only accessible on overdrive, so that's when it started having a time limit. Before that once he got it, it was until the end of the round.
Where is Sol? (This comment is clearly a joke that references current state of Guilty Gear's biggest balance issue right now, I do know that this isn't a GG game but this channel's usual content is often connected to Guilty Gear. Some may say that I don't have to explain such obvious joke' but there are idiots who don't understand simple things like this without an explanation)
People thought he was weak because of typical "new game, technical char, other char is ez and does mad damage". It wasn't just the infinite, he is actually quite mobile and is great at controlling space, he had good mix, and a lot of chars had to sacrifice a significant amount of damage just to combo him reliably.
@@macbison9501 yeah but even after the infinite was discovered i dont remember anyone saying he was the best. obv lord knight would know more than me, but i was also around and just never heard that. my impression was that nu was considered the best for the majority, but then rachel was considered the best by the time cs1 came out. also i thought she could escape carl's infinite with her wind?
@@LordKnightfgc I saw a matchup chart that basically placed him at 5th, so it seems to me like either Carl's perception didn't change very quickly even after the clap loop was put to use, or CS had come out by the time anybody would have cared to say that Carl was the best character in CT.
That's because he isn't. The clap loop was discovered early on and even then everyone put Rachel, Nu and Arakune on top. 2 of those had unblockable setups and Rachel could guard crush you from a blockstring into a ton of damage. Top 3 was even nuttier than Carl.
As a person who was like in middle school who was initiated into anime fighters in BlazBlue I didn't know half of what to do. But now I'm looking back at it calamity trigger on release I remember people laughin at my boy Carl Clover. I love puppet characters (zato is too difficult for me I think) because they have unlimited potential. One good set up and you can kiss your gameplan goodbye
It appears that puppet characters and item throwers (to a lesser degree) are highly susceptible to brokenness, if not inherently broken concepts (especially puppet characters). When you have a character that is able to move freely and attack/block while also attacking from somewhere else on the screen it creates balancing issues. We had the same shit happen in Persona with Shadow Labrys and Ken.
Wait. Carl is top tier because of his touch of death, but Taokaka with her ININITE TAUNT JUGGLE ISNT!? Blasphemy. Nah Carl was really really fucking good. But I don't think he was like SSS Tier. I would put him S Tier. Maybe S+
As someone who nerfs out on game design, the hardest characters should naturally be top tier. If you think it's because they *deserve*, yeah it helps, but the main reason is that the difficulty should be in mastering a dynamic system where you can learn new tech twice every week, if the gimmicks you're adding naturally give more possibilities, it's just expecting, if your most complex characters are trash, you're doing it wrong. However, they should have low standard stats so players don't just pick them, rock with the universal mechanics and have the gimmicks on top, that's why zato has low health and bad normals.
No amount of "hard to play" justifies OP shit. Competitive video games fall into this trap all the time and every single time it backfires. They create a super hard to play character that is also OP, so they can claim their game rewards "high skill" (more like "no life", but whatever) and then at some point some people actually take the time to learn them, and end up completely pulverizing everyone with no counter play. That's bad game design. There is a difference between top tier and broken tier.
I love playing old fighting games, but man when you hear the things some people complain about in new games and look at old games I just have the image of Pam going “they’re the same picture” in my head 😅 Obviously game feel plays a part and such, but I wish people would just say they simply don’t like a game rather than try to do all this weird “the game is objectively flawed” word gymnastics when a lot of the time it comes down to taste 😕
I mean, Carl being able to kill off any hit reminds me a lot of Zero 😂 The only difference is that you need execution to use zero, Carl sounds like easy mode
Only game where I insist on never fighting arakune..I stop playing rank only made rooms.. Name my room no arakune allowed..That character put me into a rage that I couldn't understand..He made my blood boil..And this is coming from a guy that fought Rachel,Carl,Nu 24/7..I fought a nu who rank record was 500-2 or 500-1 can't remember..But he beat me countless times.. Losing became fun because I know Nu,Carl, Rachel despite being broken..They actually had to learn things..Akarune players just curse you and auto win no effort needed
I completely hate Touch of deaths or things that even get close. Mainly because they are always both A: cheap, and B: Take goddamn forever. I would play BBCF way more if there wasn’t a 90% chance that I match with a Naoto that hits you with literally anything then forced you to play the “guess when and which way to roll” game. Fuck that nonsense
You should try punishing dash cancels with a jab and phantom pain with a grab or a low, throwing/command grabs can seriously fuck most rushdowns up, especially naoto
Ik you can’t punish all dash cancels but against most lower level naoto’s they won’t have the dash cancel into special move motion down, so you gotta a few frames to punish depending on how close you are
