THIS is What a Tomahawk Cruise Missile CAN DO!

The Tomahawk missile is one of the most potent missiles in the US arsenal and is the primary land attack missile of the US Navy. The purpose of this video will be to analyze several little known aspects of the missile. First, its launching process as well as command and control process that goes into a missile strike. Secondly, the strategic level effects the Tomahawk has had in prosecuting American conflicts.

I am a retired Navy Tomahawk Technician, USS Philippine Sea CG-58. 2:12 Not true, the strike team definitely knows what the targets are. Those on the strike team had a Top Secret SCI clearance. Pretty good video otherwise.

This maybe weak but I literally use to do some handyman work. For a widow,whose husband basically designed the Tomahawk. yes yes and yes. There hasn't been a single report of a Tomahawk being shot down. There have been a lot of anti-missile defense taken out by Tomahawks. That is one of it's primary missions. It takes out the anti-air missile defenses, then the planes can attack safely.

at 2:00 in the video, that's the ship (USS Halsey DDG-97) that I retired from in 2011. I was also a Tomahawk technician (and CM LPO) on board her! (that missile is heading into White Sands missile range on a test flight).As far as knowing where the final target is, there's a reason why Tomahawk technicians hold a Top Secret security clearance, because we DO know where that missile is going to hit, starting with TTWCS (Tactical Tomahawk Weapons Control System) we can repurpose the impact point of the missile to other preplanned targets or have it impact at certain latitude and longitude for a target. (that can all be accomplished after the missile is in the air).

@@jakehildebrand1824 Both systems have advantages and disadvantages, Tomahawks are almost impossible to detect, unlike a MIRV, which flies in a parabolic arc, which enables defensive systems to track it way before it lands. Tomahawks don't need to fly at supersonic speeds, which increases detection and they fly below defense detection systems. I did read that Israel has outfitted nuclear ordnance on its German submarine cruise missiles (11 of them). The info is online as well as Janes Defense, the major publication of each country's military assets. But no one knows for sure how many nukes because Israel doesn't reveal how many. The best military estimates are between 80 to 200 nukes. Nukes nowadays can be detonated at any altitude, even a few feet above the ground, unlike the past where they were required to detonate at higher altitudes.

@Twizted86
@Twizted86 6 месяцев назад
I previously worked within the Private Security & Intelligence communities myself but would never tell you or anyone else for that matter the level of clearance I had as was the nature of the work I did within the Security Sector. You're exposing yourself to a world of hurt if you're not staying updated with the newer cyber security threats. If you knew what I knew in regard to what a determined person or group was capable of online, you would retract that from your initial statement and just be happy that you were privileged enough to know what you know... Just saying 'Fred Smith' nobody is safe from a determined actor especially those with exceptional skills in their field of whatever it is they are paid to do. You have a great day now but think about why the knowledge in your head required it as TS and then remember that RU-vid is a global platform where many of these commentors are also foreign actors being paid to observe and report on people like you that claim to have knowledge that could be of use to someone. That old OpSec 'Loose lips sink ships' was the phrase back in WW2 If I remember correctly, you never know who or where they are, but they're listening in or watching for little titbits of information that could potentially lead to a convoy being sunk on the other side of the world, if you get my meaning. As someone that held a TS and potential SCI you should know how easily it could be for people to find your identity, given the information you've told us already, I've been able to find information regarding your crewmates. From what you've said here I can see you were in the CIC as Navy doesn't and never did have 'database managers' as a specific role, having a TSC means you were within a senior position too as Operations Specialists only required Secret clearances. Given the specific timeframe too; I've found a number of potential matches already as to who you are or more specifically who you served with, which would then if I cared enough could go on to contact them and approach them as a lot of you would be in your senior years since the Fife was 'dispatched' by USS Russell DDG-59 back in 2005. I don't want to bore you with being more dramatic than I already have been, I've pretty much made my point but just to demonstrate: 1) You were probably a Surface Warfare Specialist within S-3 2) I assume you are acquainted with the nicknames (I see why the nicknames were needed though having people with the same first names could get confusing): "Koop aka Don, Lenny aka Leonard, Red aka Kevin, Grambo aka Kenny , Dirtbag aka Jesse, Seapup aka Chris, Odie aka William, Stretch another William, Batmite another Chris, Diamond aka Otis. Could go on, but point is proven. 3) I also presume you were assigned to her during or shortly after the AN/SQ-89, LAMPS III, VLS and CIWS upgrades at the SMP drydock and spent most of your time served in Japan. Based upon your first sentence regarding time served and role played onboard the Fife. You're potentially one of the names listed above or you knew them personally or because of your mentioning of having a TSC I can make an educated guess that your initials are J.H. From what I know of the USS Fife and her history I thank you for your service as an Australian, your ship alongside our own Navy patrolled the South China Seas monitoring the 8th Operational Squadron which was part of the Primorskiy Flotilla (Pacific Fleet) operating out of Vladivostok during what I can only imagine a 'scary' time in recent history as the 8th Operational Squadron of the USSR made up 32% of the USSR's entire Naval capacity at the time. Within the Sea of Okhotsk there were 800 warships at the time. Also, I mean no disrespect in this comment, simply trying to educate you in what information can be found online when someone knows how to use the internet as a tool rather than a convenience... As you should know having TS Clearance you were probably involved with DSNET2 and DSNET3 (now known as JWICS and SIPRNet) I was 4 years old when you finished your time onboard DD-991 and I remember seeing her sunk in 2005 and have my own relatives still serving in our own Navy. During my brief search I noted several deceased who served within the same timeframe you mentioned and I'm sorry for your loss if you were close to any or all of them. 30 years later and we're back in another Cold-War with the same antagonists. Using the same threats of Nuclear War. Only difference being the nuclear weapons now have higher yields and we can fit up to 15 warheads per ICBM. Russia even claims to have a nuclear torpedo capable of creating a Tsunami. The players remain the same, but the technology has improved.

Video criticism: Don’t be showing every other cruise/tactical missile in the international inventory while you feature just one, the Tomahawk in this case. “Is that an AGM-65 Maverick?”, I am thinking while you rattle on about reaching the launch basket. true meister. you not a tree, you can alway choose to live somewhere else. you ought to give it a try. it would be an eye opening. be grateful what you have. just like the guy, he was complaining, he has no shoes till he ran to the guy, he had no feet.

I have followed the tomahawk technology since the beginning. It would have been nice to see some actual footage of it hitting a target. This is disappointing click-bait.

And an SSGN(submarine) can carry 154 of these tomahawk cruise missiles, between submarines and guided missile destroyers there's not many targets that can hide from these bad boys.

Good video, but you need to work on your choice of video clips to include. E.g., at 0:55 that troubled man is not a very convincing looking ship's commanding officer (the "captain"); and at 1:00 "Mutt" does not look like a Captain, nor "Jeff" the Captain's exec officer.
